    Chelsea 0-0 Brighton

Hakim Ziyech has taken a forearm to the face from Bissouma, who rotated and caught the Chelsea man. VAR checked it but it wasn't worthy of any punishment. The treatment Ziyech receives takes us past the 45 minutes and into injury time.

Zouma gets his head to the corner but it is only to half clear. Brighton look to salvage something from the attack but Pascal Gross' effort is off target.

    Chelsea 0-0 Brighton

Kai Havertz is clattered as Chelsea look to break forward but the referee allows play to continue with the Blues still in possession. They can't make anything of it, though. Wasted.

Soon after, Bissouma earns Brighton a corner with a shot that deflects onto the roof of the Chelsea net.

Brighton are giving Chelsea very little space. They are playing with real energy and really look on it tonight. This is against a Chelsea playing very well as well.

Five minutes until the break. Very little has happened.

Alonso is flagged offside as he collects a pass wide left. He's not off, though. And there I was thinking assistant's are meant to keep their flag down until an attack ends.

    Chelsea 0-0 Brighton

Zouma makes amends, rising in the box to head away the chipped free-kick. Brighton come again and draw an easy save from Kepa via Trossard's shot. That's their first effort at goal in the game.

    Chelsea 0-0 Brighton

Down goes Welbeck and the ref blows for a free-kick near the edge of the Chelsea box. Zouma gets a yellow for dragging the striker down. He's lucky there was cover or he may have seen red.

    Dangerous set-piece to come...

Men flying everywhere. Yves Bissouma goes in on Antonio Rudiger and fouls him, leaving his boot in. Both go down, but it is the Brighton man who stays on the turf longer before getting up to limp away.

Jorginho is yellow carded soon after for a foul on Bissouma. Retribution? Possibly. He gets his deserved punishment.

Lot of possession for Chelsea, but they're struggling to open Brighton up. It's going to need patience and precision.

James doesn't provide with a cross from the right that flies straight into the grasp of Sanchez.

Been a quiet opening 25 minutes for Kepa. Brighton haven't really got near the Chelsea box yet, let alone their goal.

Well done Dan Burn. He's a big fella, but he has the legs to keep pace with Reece James as the full-back darts to the byline. Burn's long legs also come in handy as he sticks one out to block the cross, deflecting the ball back off the Chelsea man for a goal-kick.

    Fine job all round.

I've got a lot of time for Alexis Mac Allister. Tidy little player, with a good touch and low centre of gravity. He lines up an effort from range but it is blocked by a Chelsea boot.

    Sanchez to the rescue.

It's another poor ball from Webster, gifting possession to Chelsea who quickly tee up Havertz in the box. His first-time effort is on target but parried by the Brighton keeper, who then has an easier job of gathering a long-range Zouma effort as the home side come again.

That's two decent openings for the home side, both resulting from Webster mistakes.

    Chelsea 0-0 Brighton

Barring the odd self-inflicted issue, Brighton are defending well here. They're a solid side and they look good on the ball. Granted they have issues with scoring regularly but every time I see them I'm left wondering why they're still battling relegation.

  16. Postpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 20 April 2021

    Chelsea 0-0 Brighton

Brighton get themselves into some bother as Webster gives the ball away in his own half, leading to a Chelsea attack that sees Christian Pulisic slice a shot wide.

Still waiting for this game to catch fire.

Mason Mount has always had talent. He's really asserted himself in the Chelsea side this season, though, when many felt he might miss out after all the Blues' summer signings. He does really well to backtrack and intercept a pass in the home box and deny Brighton a sniff of an attack.

    Chelsea 0-0 Brighton

Chelsea are warming up to this. Marcos Alonso is inches away from latching on to a cross from Hakim Ziyech to the back post, the ball instead skipping out of play.

For a second it looks like Kai Havertz might latch on to a lofted ball forward, but after getting in behind the Brighton defence he is met by the charging Robert Sanchez, who blocks the ball before it is cleared.

Brighton have probably edged possession, that is no surprise, because Brighton often have a lot of the ball. The problem is scoring goals.
