It's already been a big day for Southampton after announcing on-loan winger Theo Walcott will sign a permanent two-year deal at the club when his Everton contract expires at the end of the season.

Walcott, 32, returned to St Mary's on a season-long loan in October, 15 years after making his debut for the Saints as a 16-year-old.

He has scored three goals in 22 games for the club so far this season.

The one intriguing aspect of tonight's Manchester United team selection is in goal.

Has Dean Henderson been dropped? Or has David de Gea been given his farewell appearance at Old Trafford?

Manchester United have conceded 27 home goals in the Premier League in 2020-21, their most in a season since 1962-63.

And they are still without skipper Harry Maguire today.

In eight days' time, Manchester United will look to claim their first silverware since 2017 when they take on Villarreal in the Europa League final.

It is fair to assume manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not be playing a strong team against Wolves on Sunday so this might be pretty close to his starting line-up for Gdansk.

Skipper Harry Maguire is nursing an ankle injury and Marcus Rashford has various niggles but apart from that, amongst the outfield players, this looks like it.

It is over 14 months since I last sat in this stadium and watched Manchester United beat Manchester City in the Premier League.

I have been fortunate enough to see a lot of games here since then but all of them have missed an essential element.

Already the fans present are making themselves heard, singing about City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Glazer family's controversial ownership of United.

Victory will guarantee Leeds a top half-finish and therefore at least £14m more than the 17th place they had budgeted for.

Performance is more of a motivator for Marcelo Bielsa than pounds and pence, but do not be fooled into thinking this result does not matter.

A cheer went up when Nathan Tella's name was read out over the speakers. He's only 21 but Tella is already a big favourite with the fans.

"I think last time we had 2,000 and there was also a very good feeling, so 8,000 will be massive for us and a good first step so as not to overload us," said the Southampton boss.
