  1. 'Having fans behind us was unbelievable'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 14 August 2021

    Leicester 1-0 Wolves

    Leicester City

Leicester goalscorer Jamie Vardy: "In the first half I thought we were really good, we only conceded chances from our own mistakes. We wanted to be better in the second half but we started a bit slow and let them come into it. But to defend the way we have done and get the three points is massive. It's a good start.

"I managed to get across my man and get a toe on it (for the goal). I knew it was goalbound but I didn't know it was going in. I got a good connection and luckily it went past the keeper. Having a full stadium with the fans behind us was unbelievable."

On new signing Jannik Vestergaard: "He had his medical a couple of days ago and has been watching us in training so he knew how we play.

"He's come in today and done a brilliant job, and that'll put him in good stead for the rest of the season."

  2. 'We were told to stay calm'published at 17:02 British Summer Time 14 August 2021

    Everton 3-1 Southampton

    Everton

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin: "We were told at half-time to stay calm and stay cool. It wasn't an ideal start to the first game of the season with fans back in the stadium. It didn’t quite go to plan in the first half but the main thing was not to panic and stay relaxed."

On Richarlison: "He's had a tough summer with games and he deserved his goal today. He got the goal that made the difference and got us back in the game."

On his goal: "It's a great feeling to score with fans being back in the stadium. I felt like a kid again. I scored a few last season but with no fans. That was a special one."

On Rafa Benitez's winning start: "I think it’s always important to get off to a winning start. We knew what we had to do going into the game. Winning the first game sets you up and we need to take that into the next game."

  4. 'I have taken the opportunity'published at 16:58 British Summer Time 14 August 2021

    Chelsea 3-0 Crystal Palace

    Chelsea

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah: "It is a dream for a boy like me being here and to play for my home club is unreal.

"As I was getting closer to the goal I though I might as well shoot and just went for it.

"I didn't know the ball went in, I did not know what to do. I was over the moon.

"I have been training with the team in pre-season and the manager said I was playing and I was ready. I was surprised by the Super Cup game too and I have taken the opportunity with both hands."

Chelsea fans chanted "Champions of Europe, we know what we are" a number of times through the match and they played like it. Yes, they will have tougher tests but Thomas Tuchel's men look like they will be right up there at the end of the season, and this was without Romelu Lukaku.

Tom Sharpe: I disagree that Villa are missing Grealish today, Villa are missing Watkins more. His energy up front is unmatched and he forces players to play up with him...also a midfielder would be nice, they're getting overrun.

    Leicester 1-0 Wolves

    End-to-end!

Conor Coady then thumps it into the back of the net from the corner but he's offside! There's a quick VAR check but it won't count.
