    Brilliant defending!

Son Heung-min is away, putting distance between himself and the Wolves defence. He reaches the box but crucially dwells a second before his shot, allowing Max Kilman to slide in and block behind for a corner.

VAR checks for handball but there's not offence in there.

It is all about Manchester United's star players there, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

Mason Greenwood was not going to miss from there, there was a nice double stepover from Pogba in the build-up.

Greenwood kept it low and it goes through a number of legs, Southampton could not stop that one.

    Wolves 0-1 Tottenham

I remember Tottenham make a bit of a song and dance at the start of the summer about getting in a manager to bring back “free-flowing, attacking and entertaining” football.

These are early days, of course, but the Nuno Spurs does have a bit of a whiff of the Mourinho Spurs.

  7. goal

GOAL - Southampton 1-1 Man Utdpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Mason Greenwood (54 mins)

    Lovely bit of play.

Mason Greenwood gets the goal, but Paul Pogba was at the heart of the build-up.

It's another assist for the Frenchman who dances into the box and plays a clever one-two with Bruno Fernandes before finding Greenwood on the edge of the box.

The teenager hits it first time and it's through the legs of Mohammed Salisu and beyond the reach of Alex McCarthy.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Southampton 1-0 Man Utd

Moussa Djenepo is down receiving treatment.

It looks like the Malian hurt himself as he conceded a free-kick for hauling down Fred from behind.

The Saints man is back on his feet, but he receives a yellow card for the challenge.

    Just hit it!

Spurs give the ball away and Adama Traore dances and jinks, shifting one way and another on the edge of the box before feeding Ruben Neves, who is quickly closed down and dispossessed.

Stephen Miller: Kane needs to get on the pitch and make a contribution. Spurs need to send a message to both City and Kane himself. The longer he sits on the side-lines the more things will fester. Once he gets back on with Dele and Sonny the ill feeling will go.

Have spurs got mourinho back? Dismal stuff, just waiting for wolves to score. Same as last season. So much lesser than the sum of the parts.

  13. KICK-OFFpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Wolves 0-1 Tottenham

We're a bit later getting the second half under way following the first-half stoppages. But we're on again now.

Harry Kane was out warming up at the break, but he's back on the bench now.

  14. Postpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Southampton 1-0 Man Utd

It's a bright start to the second half for Man Utd, as Paul Pogba volleys towards goal from Aaron Wan-Bissaka's pass inside the box.

The Frenchman appeals for a penalty, adamant the ball struck Mohammed Salisu's arm, but replays show that wasn't the case and Pogba has to settle for a corner.

Pictures from outside the ground showed plenty of Southampton fans missed kick-off, with huge queues outside the turnstiles.

The club have issued an apology, saying they will refund all general admission tickets.

Today's match is the first one at St. Mary's with a full capacity crowd in over 18 months.

  18. 'It has not gelled at all for Manchester United today'published at 14:58 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    HT: Southampton 1-0 Man Utd

    Karen Carney
Former England and GB international on BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester United started the better side, had some chances, but Southampton grew into the game and were aggressive. United did not like being put under that discomfort.

I don't think it was a foul on Bruno Fernandes for the goal, really good intricate play and Che Adams clinically finished off with a slight deflection.

Adams has done brilliantly, when he was signed it was Danny Ings there and now he has to help Adam Armstrong, that extra responsibility brings the best out of you. The centre-forwards have grown into the games.

It is non-existent for United, I have not seen Anthony Martial. I don't think he knows what he is doing or offering, he looks lost.

It has not gelled at all for Manchester United today.

Kyle Utterson: Manchester United made a really good start and should have been a goal or 2 up. But the 10 minutes before the goal and after it's been to slow from them. Southampton deserve their lead even though they were lucky in the build-up to the goal.

PJ: Very average performance in the first half. We need to make changes for the second half.

Andy Walsh: Why change a winning team? I’ll never understand why managers do this. McTominay drives things more than Matic. Come on Ole

A closer look at the half-time replays show Che Adam's shot was going well wide before Fred's deflection.

There will be plenty of chat on whether or not play should have been allowed to continue after the challenge from Jack Stephens on Bruno Fernandes in the build-up.
