  6. 'We are still in the process of improving'published at 14:57 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

    FT: Manchester City 5-0 Arsenal

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola spoke to BBC Sport: “We scored a goal that we didn’t deserve. We didn’t play that good to score a goal.

"The first time we arrived in the Arsenal half we scored. We had problems in the fist 15-20 minutes in our build up. After 2-0 and sending off the game is completely different."

On what he wanted to see in the second half: “Respect the opponent, be serious in our process and our job. We created chances, we scored two more, the most important thing is that we played with respect to the opponent and not do silly things with the ball. We are still in the process of improving. Like I said to the players after the game. It was nice winning today but we have to be better."

On Mikel Arteta: “Arteta knows how I love him. In the two or three years he was here he was important to what we built. People want results right away, with the players he had today, Ben White, Thomas Partey were missing, many players they invested in were missing, without that it is difficult.

"I know his awareness as a manager and as a leader, the moment everyone is back he will do an excellent job. I know this because I know him, I know the job he can do."

  15. 'Vieira needs time'published at 14:46 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

West Ham v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Crystal Palace do need time, they have a new manager getting used to new surroundings, getting used to the players.

Vieira does things meticulously, he wants to play a certain way, he wants to play the beautiful game. Whether he has got the tools to play the beautiful game at Palace remains to be seen.

I think he could be a very good manager in the long-term.

Aston Villa v Brentford (15:00 BST)

    Shamoon Hafez
    BBC Sport at Villa Park

This game sees Aston Villa boss Dean Smith and striker Ollie Watkins face their former club Brentford.

Smith managed the Bees from November 2015 to October 2018, while Watkins netted 45 goals in 143 Championship games between 2017 and 2020.

And Watkins, who is on the bench, still has friends at the club, as boss Thomas Frank explained on Friday.

“I want and wish him all the best, said Frank. "So happy every single time he gets success, it was a sad moment when he had to leave, he was in tears when he left because he wanted to play in Premier League with Brentford, we’re texting once in a while.”

Villa defender Ezri Konsa, who captains the side today, spent the 2018-19 season at Brentford too.
