  1. goal

GOAL - Man City 2-0 Arsenalpublished at 12 mins

    Ferran Torres

Schoolboy defending. Ferran Torres with a tap in.

What were the visitors doing there? Cedric Soares misses Bernardo Silva's ball into the box and it squirms under another Gunners defender to the unmarked Spaniard.

    Arsenal in deep trouble already.

  2. 'Beautiful cross, great header'published at 12:43 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Everton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was brilliant play from Jesus, he was chasing a lost ball - literally a hit-and-hope ball into the channel which I thought Kieran Tierney was favourite to get to. Jesus bullied his way in there.

Jesus put a beautiful, beautiful cross in and it's a great header from Gundogan.

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Simon Stone

That was all a bit routine from Manchester City.

A driving run out of midfield from Bernardo Silva, a deep cross by Gabriel Jesus and an unchallenged header at the far post.

Arsenal really need a decent performance today. That is not the way of going about it.

  4. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Just moments before that City goal Bukayo Saka had half a chance for the Gunners.

But he could not connect cleanly under pressure at the back stick. How costly might that miss be now?

  5. goal

GOAL - Man City 1-0 Arsenalpublished at 7 mins

    Ilkay Gundogan

Gabriel Jesus cross. Ilkay Gundogan header. So simple and completely unchallenged. The hosts are ahead.

  6. Arsenal 'not afraid' to presspublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

    Man City 0-0 Arsenal

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Everton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a very good, accomplished start from Arsenal. The back three of Chambers, Holding and Kolasinac are going up one on one with Jesus, Torres and Grealish.

They're not afraid of those one-v-one situations which frees up the wingbacks and midfielders to press City high up the field.

  7. Torres in striking rolepublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

    Man City 0-0 Arsenal

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Following the confirmation that Harry Kane is to remain at Tottenham this summer, Manchester City still have the issue of not having an orthodox number nine in Pep Guardiola's ranks.

Ferran Torres has been given the job today, with Gabriel Jesus on the right and £100m man Jack Grealish on the left.

    Man City 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal have started brightly and seem intent on pressing Manchester City as high up the pitch as possible.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will know all about how to best combat his former employers but putting it into practice is another matter.

Sloppy early touch from Jack Grealish. The £100m-man miss controls and the ball dribbles under his foot for an Arsenal throw.

    Shamoon Hafez

Arrived nice and early at Villa Park, mainly due to avoid any stress on the M6.

There was a slight issue earlier when a fire alarm went off somewhere in the Trinity Stand and all hospitality and stewarding staff make their way outside.

But thankfully the issue has been resolved and we're cooking again.

Cooking, because it's absolutely scorching in the Midlands today.

  13. 'Long afternoon for Arsenal'published at 12:27 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

Man City v Arsenal (12:30 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal got battered last weekend. I watched the game and they offered very, very little. They'll have to improve.

I'd expect that City have all of the ball and do all the pressing, it could be a long afternoon for Arsenal.

  16. City's fine Gunners recordpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

Man City v Arsenal (12:30 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 11 league games against Arsenal (Won nine, drawn two) since a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates in December 2015.

They’ve taken 28 of a possible 30 points against the Gunners under Pep Guardiola (Won nine, drawn one).

Not exactly the sort of thing to provide too much optimism of a positive result today.

  17. Good viewpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

Man City v Arsenal (12:30 BST)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

It is a feature at Manchester City that the fans who pay for the expensive seats at the Etihad Stadium get to stand at the side of the pitch to watch the warm-up.

It all looks very busy down there as Pep Guardiola's side get ready for the game.

City have won the last eight Premier League fixtures between these two teams, conceding only twice in the process.

Arsenal haven't beaten City in the league since 2015 - so never whilst Pep Guardiola has been in charge - and not since 2010 at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City v Arsenal (12:30 BST)

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Everton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

If Arsenal focus on damage control, conceding as few as possible, it's gonna be an absolute one-way street. Man City are going to run riot if Arsenal don't buck up their ideas.

The midweek victory against a weakened West Brom side was still a good win, especially in terms of confidence building. I want to see Arsenal on the front foot.

  20. Arsenal need a resultpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 28 August 2021

Man City v Arsenal (12:30 BST)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Arsenal come into today's game on the back of successive Premier League defeats and looking to avoid a third straight loss at the start of a season for the first time since 1954-55.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is under pressure to turn the situation round but has an ally in Pep Guardiola, who he worked as assistant manager to at Manchester City.

"Mikel did so much good work for us and helped us achieve our targets while he was here," said Guardiola in his programme notes ahead of today's game.

"I will always be grateful to him. I know the way he sets his team up means we will be in for a tough game today."
