GOAL - Atletico Madrid 0-1 Liverpoolpublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 19 October 2021

    James Milner (7 mins)

Well, it was originally awarded to Mohamed Salah but it's actually James Milner's goal!

Salah skips past Yannick Carrasco, goes inside Thomas Lemar, shimmies past Koke then fires it towards the bottom left corner.

It takes a heavy deflection on the way and replays show it's Milner who touches it last.

    A brilliant start for Liverpool.

Here's Mohamed Salah, who gets it from Sadio Mane and tries to find Roberto Firmino in the centre with the outside of his boot.

There's not enough curl on it and it's straight to the centre-back.

Mohamed Salah's performances this season have raised the performances of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. With Diogo Jota there, it's a great problem for Jurgen Klopp to have. When Firmino plays with Mane and Salah, he's the glue that brings it all together. He seems to have gotten his appetite back.

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport: "We did not have much time to train. Monday we did a bit and we walk players through it. Fabinho was already in Madrid so he could not train with us. So Alisson in and the rest the same. We can't train five times and we know exactly what to do. We don't have to talk to much about doing different things here and there. It is the same again.

"They have no real left-back on the pitch. [Kieran] Trippier can play there. [Geoffrey] Kondogbia is tall and physically strong and can play in defence for sure. They will be deep and annoying but who cares. Luis Suarez is on the bench. I would have paid money to be at the meeting when Diego Simeone told him he was not playing. It is a strong team. They can change five times and we can do that. Hopefully the game is so intense that we need it because then it will be a good one."

Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid when the two sides last met, with the Spanish side winning both legs of their last-16 tie in early 2020.

"I'm a positive person but I'm not that positive to think we have these games in our pockets," said Jurgen Klopp.

"They have changed players and system so we face a different animal, but not a weaker one.

"The core are still together, and have been for a while, and they know how to win football games."

Mohamed Salah is in incredible form and even Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has described him as "extraordinary".

Salah has scored in each of his past eight games for Liverpool and we all remember THAT goal against Watford in his last outing.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said the Egypt forward is "the best" player in the world.

"Mohamed Salah is an extraordinary player," said Simeone.

"He has been playing at a fantastic level for the last few years with Liverpool and his national team."

Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I would imagine Salah's agent is going in and asking for more money. I think Klopp said at the weekend that he's arguably the best player in the world. It's not arguably - he is the best player in the world. What a good time to show you're the best player in the world when you want a little bit of a pay rise.

Atletico Madrid v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

Liverpool are unbeaten in all competitions so far this season and are top of Group B in the Champions League with two wins from two.

"They are going through a fantastic spell of football, they seem to have a different rhythm, and it is a pleasure to see them play," said Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

"They have no fear to leave spaces at the back. They press high, play a high line, have speed."
