    Lautaro Martinez

    It's interesting now!

Lautaro Martinez sends the Inter Milan fans wild. Alexis Sanchez plays it to Martinez, who is right on the edge of the penalty area and it is a brilliant strike, arrowed into the top corner.

    Anfield becomes nervous.

  2. CLOSE!published at 61 mins

Liverpool 0-0 Inter Milan (2-0 on aggregate)

We've not mentioned Lautaro Martinez much tonight, but he very nearly makes this very interesting indeed.

He's central in the middle of the penalty area and strikes at goal, but it hits Andy Robertson's foot to divert it for a corner, which comes to nothing.

I was holding my breath during that passage of play!

You can tell from the noise of the crowd that the pace of the game has picked up. That's what the fans came here to see.

  5. HITS THE WOODWORK - Salahpublished at 53 mins

Liverpool 0-0 Inter Milan (2-0 on aggregate)

For the second time today Liverpool hit the woodwork. Diogo Jota causes problems, Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic is unconvincing with a Superman dive to punch the ball clear but it just falls to Mohamed Salah.

He's the man Liverpool fans want on the ball, but 12 yards out he can only strike his effort against the foot of the post.

By the way, Inter had made a change at the break as Danilo D'Ambrosio came on for Stefan De Vrij.

Former Manchester City man Edin Dzeko is among the other subs for the Italians and surely we'll see him soon.

The goals just keep coming for Bayern Munich.

    Liverpool 0-0 Inter Milan

Andy Robertson is the first Liverpool man to get himself into the book, late on Denzel Dumfries.

From the free-kick Hakan Calhanoglu takes it from the right and Alexis Sanchez flings himself at it but it's good handling from Alisson who hangs on to the diving header.

Better from Inter Milan, this one's not done yet.

There are a lot of defenders in these Liverpool first-half stats...

    Chances created: 3 Alexander-Arnold.

    Touches: 59 Alexander-Arnold, 45 Robertson, 44 Van Dijk.

    Passes: 41 Van Dijk, 39 Alexander-Arnold, 37 Thiago.

    Most crosses: 7 Alexander-Arnold.

    Shots: 2 Van Dijk, 1 Matip, Alexander-Arnold.

That was a professional performance from Liverpool. They didn't set the world alight. Neither keeper was overly tested but they've done what they've needed to do.

Liverpool did all the hard work in the first leg. At the moment Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are controlling the game.

Forget about the goals for now, they just need to get over the line.

Liverpool's forwards will want to get on the scoresheet but there won't be an over-zealous attempt to get shots away all the time. I don't think we're going to see Liverpool at full tilt in attack tonight.

  15. 'A lesson in game management'published at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

HT: Liverpool 0-0 Inter Milan (2-0 on aggregate)

    Neil Johnston

No goals but a lesson in game management by Liverpool. A measured and controlled performance by Jurgen Klopp's side which leaves Inter with much to do in the second half if they are to stay in the Champions League.

Trent Alexander-Arnold ended a fine individual first half by going close with a free-kick. He's been involved in all of Liverpool's best moments.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

Liverpool 0-0 Inter Milan (2-0 on aggregate)

Liverpool 45 minutes away from the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

They've also come closest to scoring with Joel Matip heading against the crossbar, while Alisson had to do well to push away Hakan Calhanoglu's free-kick at the other end.

  17. YELLOW CARDSpublished at 45+5 mins

Liverpool 0-0 Inter Milan (2-0 on aggregate)

Ex-Arsenal and Manchester United man Alexis Sanchez gets himself into the book, with a late challenge that catches the knee of Thiago Alcantara.

Team-mate Arturo Vidal is never afraid of a tackle and he sees yellow soon after as well, for clumsily bringing Curtis Jones.

Trent-Alexander Arnold takes the resulting free-kick 30 yards out and goalkeeper Samir Handovic is panicking, but it flies just wide. A great strike, but just off target.

  18. Bayern in control at the breakpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

Bayern Munich 4-0 Red Bull Salzburg (5-1 on aggregate)

Absolute masterclass from Robert Lewandowski and Bayern Munich in that first half.

Oh and how about this statistic on Champions League matches to reach 85 goals:

    • Robert Lewandowski 104
    • Lionel Messi 107
    • Cristiano Ronaldo 121

Alisson hasn't had much to do in the Liverpool goal, but shows his class to push away a well-struck free-kick from Hakan Calhanoglu.

The Inter man had been to the right of the penalty area and fooled everyone by sending the free-kick in low and direct instead of crossing it.

The ball bounced just in front of Alisson to make it even harder, but the Brazilian responded well at full stretch to divert it to safety.
