  1. In Munich...published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

Bayern Munich 0-0 Red Bull Salzburg (1-1 on aggregate)

A fast and frenetic start over in Munich.

Robert Lewandowski almost puts the hosts in front inside a minute but sees his low shot well saved.

The visitors go straight up the other end and Nicolas Capaldo really ought to open the scoring from eight yards but instead sees his shot deflect wide.

  2. Postpublished at 7 mins

Liverpool 0-0 Inter Milan (2-0 on aggregate)

Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries tries a half volley at waist-height level from the edge of the penalty area, but Alisson is well placed and right behind it and comfortably grabs it.

  3. Postpublished at 5 mins

Liverpool 0-0 Inter Milan (2-0 on aggregate)

Mohamed Salah runs at the Inter Milan defence down the right wing after Fabinho wins the ball and Salah is too fast, too good and too tricky for Alessandro Bastoni, playing on the left side of Inter's back three.

Salah cuts inside and runs into traffic, but early encouragement for the Egyptian up against Bastoni.

You can already see that Inter's wide players get the ball out of their feet and look to get it in the box at every opportunity. They are going to put Liverpool's defenders under all sorts of pressure.

Liverpool have won each of their three games against Inter Milan in the Champions League without conceding a single goal (2-0 and 1-0 in 2007-08, 2-0 in this season’s first leg), with all three of these games coming at the last-16 stage of the competition.

And here come the players as the Champions League anthem comes on not long after 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

Remember, away goals is no longer a factor in these ties so Inter need to be ahead by two goals after 90 minutes to force extra time. Much easier said than done, but not impossible.

Champions League nights at Anfield are on a different level. You cannot see the faces of the fans in the Kop for all the banners, flags and scarves. Inter's travelling fans are adding to the atmosphere.

As soon as 'You'll Never Walk Alone' came on, out came the camera phones in the away end.

Liverpool v Inter Milan (20:00 GMT, 2-0 on aggregate)

If Inter are to progress, they're going to have to do something only Manchester United have done...

Only one team in Champions League history has ever lost the first leg of a knockout stage tie by two or more goals at home and still gone on to progress, with Manchester United doing so against Paris St-Germain in the 2018-19 last 16 (0-2 at home, 3-1 away).

Mohamed Salah has scored eight goals in seven Champions League appearances for Liverpool this season, only netting more in a single campaign in 2017-18 (10).

The Egyptian is averaging a goal every 69 minutes this term however, which is his best ratio in a single season in the competition.

  16. No night off for Mopublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

Liverpool v Inter Milan (20:00 GMT)

    Neil Johnston

So, no night off for Mo Salah who probably did not want one anyway. He has scored eight of Liverpool's 19 Champions League goals this season.

If he gets another tonight, he will have scored in all four games against AC Milan - in the group stage - and Inter Milan after getting the second goal in the 2-0 win three weeks ago.

Liverpool probably have more quality in numbers and depth than in previous years. The quality of the individuals away from the starting line-up has gone up. They are definitely stronger.

Sulaimon Adelekan: It's a very tricky tie at Anfield. Inter Milan scores first and it's game on. Martinez hasn't scored in 10 UCL games, he has to come up big tonight alongside Sanchez. Liverpool are clear favourites to go through.

  19. 'Liverpool will get the job done'published at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

Liverpool v Inter Milan (20:00 GMT)

    Adam Lallana
Former Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Liverpool lads will know the task ahead and hopefully they can put in a professional performance to get the job done.

There are leaders throughout the team, even without Jordan Henderson and James Milner starting.

They are full of experience and I think they'll get the job done because they know how to do it.

  20. 'We have always been confident in ourselves'published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

Liverpool v Inter Milan (20:00 GMT, 2-0 on aggregate)

Inter Milan come into the game on the back of a 5-0 victory over Salernitana and coach Simone Inzaghi hopes that will be the confidence-booster they need.

“We have had to use up lots of physical and especially mental energy in recent games, but these kind of games serve as motivation and allow you to have the best possible approach,” he said

“The 5-0 win didn’t end any crisis as there wasn’t one in the first place. We are a solid squad and there are no problems internally and that’s what counts.

“We have always been confident in ourselves and the 5-0 win shows we have quality.”
