Same again in the second half please. What a game!!!!

I was about to write about the lack of desire in this Chelsea team, then Havertz does that! Brave as a lion.

A little Karim Benzema love-in for you at the break...

Since Opta has data for headed goals (2003-04), only Cristiano Ronlado (25) has scored more headed goals in Champions League history than Benzema (17).

Benzema has scored 2+ goals in his last four games for Real Madrid - the only other player to score a brace in four consecutive appearances within the big five European leagues this season (all competitions) is Kylian Mbappe.

    Villarreal 1-0 Bayern Munich

Villarreal lead at the break and the home side have been outstanding. A fully deserved lead.

A lot of work to do for Bayern Munich, who have been poor.

This has been such a great game, the 45 minutes has been absolutely breath-taking.

The standard of quality from both teams, it has been a joy to watch.

There was a 10-minute spell where Real Madrid tore Chelsea apart but they managed to get themselves back into it.

Kai Havertz works a yard of space on the edge of the box and looks to curl a left-footed effort into the top corner, but it was never coming down in time.

I can't believe Benzema has missed that, the form he is in.

That's the easiest of the three chances he's had.

They are very lucky not to be 3-1 down there, Chelsea.

  8. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Chelsea 1-2 Real Madrid

That goal has cranked the volume up a few notches at Stamford Bridge, but Karim Benzema goes close to silencing the home fans again!

It should have been a hat-trick for the Frenchman, as he collects Vinicius Junior's pass and looks set to slot into the bottom corner with his left foot, only to fire wide.

  9. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 6 April 2022
    Breaking

    Villarreal 1-0 Bayern Munich

Referee Anthony Taylor is advised to go to the screen to check for offside and he overturns his original decision. Francis Coquelin had just strayed offside and that is a let off for Bayern because no-one would have begrudged Villarreal a 2-0 lead.

Much better from Chelsea, good response, even the manager is up there clapping.

Kai Havertz gets enough onto the header, there are defenders trying to put him off but the delivery from Jorginho is outstanding.

    Incredible!

Francis Coquelin breaks clear of the defence on the left side of the box and crosses but it goes all the way into the goal!

But wait, was Coquelin offside? VAR has a look...

    Chelsea pull one back!

It's another lovely header, too. And this time it is Kai Havertz who pulls away from his defender to meet Jorginho's delightful delivery with a brave header that Thibaut Courtois cannot keep out.

    Game on.

Thiago Silva might feel he could have done better there! The veteran defender finds himself free in the box from Mason Mount's corner but can only steer his header over the crossbar.

    Chelsea 0-2 Real Madrid

Real Madrid are camped pretty deep in their own half when Chelsea have the ball, asking the hosts to try and break them down. So far they've dealt with anything Thomas Tuchel's side have had to offer, and shown their threat on the break...

Just under 10 minutes to go until the break and we are still waiting for Bayern Munich to register a shot on target.

The home fans are loving this.

Charles Fairweather: Too many players who are threatening to join Barcelona not turning up against Real Madrid tonight.

Do not renew Christiansen's or Rudiger's contracts under any circumstance please.

  19. CLOSE!published at 33 mins

    Chelsea 0-2 Real Madrid

Dani Carvajal gets Real Madrid going and then continues his run into the box, it breaks for the right-back and his low shot is palmed away by Edouard Mendy but almost into the path of an oncoming white shirt and Andreas Christensen has to hack clear. A bit last-ditch from the Blues.
