Since Opta has data for headed goals (2003-04), only Cristiano Ronlado (25) has scored more headed goals in Champions League history than Benzema (17).

Benzema has scored 2+ goals in his last four games for Real Madrid - the only other player to score a brace in four consecutive appearances within the big five European leagues this season (all competitions) is Kylian Mbappe.

Villarreal lead at the break and the home side have been outstanding. A fully deserved lead.

A lot of work to do for Bayern Munich, who have been poor.

This has been such a great game, the 45 minutes has been absolutely breath-taking.

The standard of quality from both teams, it has been a joy to watch.

I can't believe Benzema has missed that, the form he is in.

That's the easiest of the three chances he's had.

They are very lucky not to be 3-1 down there, Chelsea.

That goal has cranked the volume up a few notches at Stamford Bridge, but Karim Benzema goes close to silencing the home fans again!

It should have been a hat-trick for the Frenchman, as he collects Vinicius Junior's pass and looks set to slot into the bottom corner with his left foot, only to fire wide.

Referee Anthony Taylor is advised to go to the screen to check for offside and he overturns his original decision. Francis Coquelin had just strayed offside and that is a let off for Bayern because no-one would have begrudged Villarreal a 2-0 lead.

Much better from Chelsea, good response, even the manager is up there clapping.

Kai Havertz gets enough onto the header, there are defenders trying to put him off but the delivery from Jorginho is outstanding.

Thiago Silva might feel he could have done better there! The veteran defender finds himself free in the box from Mason Mount's corner but can only steer his header over the crossbar.

Real Madrid are camped pretty deep in their own half when Chelsea have the ball, asking the hosts to try and break them down. So far they've dealt with anything Thomas Tuchel's side have had to offer, and shown their threat on the break...

Dani Carvajal is a right-back and he's on the six-yard line.

Every time they attack in numbers, Real Madrid look like they are going to score.

Dani Carvajal gets Real Madrid going and then continues his run into the box, it breaks for the right-back and his low shot is palmed away by Edouard Mendy but almost into the path of an oncoming white shirt and Andreas Christensen has to hack clear. A bit last-ditch from the Blues.

Pau Torres is not far off getting on the end of a flick on from Dani Parejo's free kick as Villarreal come looking for a second.
