Michael Devlin: For a team that “would be in a Champions League spot” in the Premiership, this City team are making hard work of tonight’s tie.

Ed O'Toole: Liverpool look like they are playing in treacle tonight. Slow and sticky.

Well, that was a nice little blast of fun at the end of the half.

Take a bow Brighton and Leicester.

Could do with a bit of that desire to entertain at West Ham and Burnley.

    Preston got the memo, though.

    Leicester 2-1 Brighton

Alright, everyone just calm down! Take 15 and have a little lie down.

GOAL - Leicester 2-1 Brightonpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    Ademola Lookman (45+5 mins)

    Whaaat!

There was barely time for Brighton to level in added time, never mind give away another goal moments later.

But they have, and it's another blunder at the back as the visitors are caught in possession and allow Ademola Lookman to sneak in to slide the ball past Jason Steele to put the Foxes back in front.

That came in the fifth added minute!

  5. goal

GOAL - Leicester 1-1 Brightonpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    Adam Webster (45+3)

Brighton are level before the break!

Leicester cannot clear the ball from a corner and Adam Webster pokes in from close range to make it 1-1.

It followed a great effort by Alexis Mac Allister to force the corner.

If you'd just come down from space and started to watch this game you'd think that Preston are the bigger and better club, and better team, on the night.

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    Stoke 0-2 Brentford

Brentford's superb season continues. They are cruising into the quarters.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    Meh.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    Preston 0-0 Liverpool

On this evidence, the gulf between Liverpool's first choice and the rest is huge. Preston have been the better side and they should be ahead.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    West Ham 0-0 Man City

No goals yet at London Stadium in a game that promised much but has delivered little.

Liverpool have been really poor, lots of team changes or not.

  12. 'Preston touch-tight'published at 20:29 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    Preston 0-0 Liverpool

    Mark Lawrenson
BBC football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

Preston are touch-tight. They're doing very, very well indeed. It's going some way to making up for the non-performance [against Blackpool] at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

    Burnley 0-0 Tottenham

Harry Kane's second decent chance of the half. A corner is flicked on and the striker acrobatically volleys an effort over the bar. Tough one, that.

  14. goal

GOAL - Stoke 0-2 Brentfordpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    Ivan Toney

The Bees are buzzing for the Carabao Cup!

Stoke knocked out Premier League Watford in the previous round but the Championship club have a mountain to climb after Ivan Toney slots home from 12 yards to double Brentford's lead.

Looking good for Thomas Frank's much-changed side.

    Preston 0-0 Liverpool

Preston's players are responding to their fans' optimism. The two groups feeding off each other. They win another corner, but are unable to make anything of it. The threat is there, though. And some of the Liverpool forwards just aren't in the game.

    Preston 0-0 Liverpool

You'd have forgiven the Preston fans for turning up here a bit nervous. But they are bang up for this now. They sense something in it for their side.

Jurgen Klopp is not a happy bunny. He is up and yelling at his team from the sidelines.

The Reds respond positively, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain weaving towards the box before seeing a shot blocked.

  18. 'Brilliant save'published at 20:17 British Summer Time 27 October 2021

    Preston 0-0 Liverpool

    Mark Lawrenson

What a great move. Adrian - brilliant, brilliant save - but three excellent opportunities for Preston.

They broke extremely well. Liverpool are taking too many touches.

    Preston 0-0 Liverpool

    How are Preston not ahead?!

Well, I'll tell you how... Adrian.

In the space of one attack, the home side have three attempts at goal. Joe Gomez is caught in possession to prompt an attack that sees Sean Maguire's effort from near point-blank range saved by the Reds keeper. One follow-up is blocked on the line by the face of Neco Williams before Brad Potts fires over.

One of the efforts should absolutely have ended up in the net.

Cole Palmer slaps his hands together in frustration!

The reason being that Alphonse Areola had moments earlier got down well to block his shot from inside the box with his legs.
