    Hull City 0-0 Sheff Utd

The hosts win their second corner of the game and, although the initial ball is easily dealt with, they almost fashion a chance from the second ball.

Callum Elder's cross in causes some consternation but it eventually lands nicely for Blades goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

  2. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Hull City 0-0 Sheff Utd

Sheffield United win possession back pretty high up and some quick passes gives Rhys Norrington-Davies a chance to swing in a cross from the left.

He rushes it though and smashes it over way over Billy Sharp, who was the only real option in the area.

The Blades have scored eight goals in their past two games after really struggling for goals in their first five matches.

  3. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Hull City 0-0 Sheff Utd

Hull City win an early corner down their right but it comes to nothing.

The Tigers scored four times as they thumped Preston on the opening day but have not scored at all in the six subsequent games.

That corner probably goes some way to explaining why they haven't scored to be honest. Not good.

  4. Postpublished at 1 min

    Hull City 0-0 Sheff Utd

This is a big chance for Rhian Brewster.

The former Liverpool man has endured a really difficult start to his time at Sheffield United and still doesn't have a league goal to his name from 32 appearances.

Today would be a VERY good day for him to break that duck.

If you're just joining us, he was named on the bench but Sander Berge has dropped out after the warm-up.

    Hull City 0-0 Sheff Utd

We're under way in East Yorkshire.

Sheffield United have scored in the opening 15 minutes of their past two games, while Hull haven't scored at all in six matches.

There's been a very late change to the Blades line-up, Rhian Brewster is in and Sander Berge is out. The Norwegian seemingly pulled up in the warm-up.

Preston grabbed a last-minute equaliser at Sheffield United on Tuesday to leave the Blades with just one win from their opening seven games

Given all the off-field goings on it would be easy to forget that we do have a full slate of 36 EFL games today, starting with a Yorkshire derby between Hull City and Sheffield United.

Both of these teams are adjusting to life back in the second tier.

Hull City ran away with the League One title last season but they're finding life back in the second tier far more of a struggle and they have failed to score since the opening game of the season.

Sheffield United were relegated from the Premier League last season after a really tough campaign but were expected to be up at the top of the Championship this season.

However, they've struggled to get going and, like today's opponents have won just one of their seven games so far this campaign.

It might only be September, but make no mistake, these two teams are desperate for the three points today.

  8. Hughton out at struggling Forestpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 18 September 2021

    Chris HughtonImage source, Rex Features

Chris Hughton became the first EFL manager to be sacked this season when he was relieved of his duties by Nottingham Forest on Thursday.

The Reds have made a dreadful start to the season, with six defeats from seven games and Wednesday's 2-0 home defeat by Middlesbrough proved to be the final straw.

Hughton, 62, had taken over at the start of last season when Sabri Lamouchi was sacked after Forest lost their first four league games.

He guided Forest to safety in 2020-21 and exits with 14 wins from 52 games.

They head to in-form Huddersfield today under the caretaker charge of Steven Reid.

Before we turn our attentions to the game kicking off in East Yorkshire in a few minutes time it would be remiss not to reflect on the dramatic developments at Derby.

The Rams are set to go into administration amid their continued financial problems.

The club, which is up for sale, said despite negotiations with a number of "credible parties", identifying a buyer was unlikely in the short term.

The English Football League confirmed they would face a 12-point deduction, which, as it stands would leave them 10 points adrift of safety.

Worse still, Wayne Rooney's side could ALSO be deducted a further nine points related to accounting policies, which would surely leave them bound for League One.

It's less than 72 hours since the EFL midweek action came to a conclusion and to say there's been a lot going on since would be an understatement.

We've had the first EFL sacking of the season and, more worryingly, one of the teams looks like they're heading into administration and a very hefty points deduction.

We'll bring you more on all that shortly, as well as full live text coverage of Hull City v Sheffield United.

After that? Oh, just 35 other games.

    Let's get started then.
