    Rachel Brown-Finnis
Ex-England goalkeeper on Match of the Day

Janine Beckie is my player of the match. She did the work in the first half and that meant Man City have been cruise control in the second half. She has not had a bad summer has she?

Ellen White does really well to steer a shot on target from Lauren Hemp's cross. Home keeper Alexandra MacIver is right behind it, though.

    More brave goalkeeping!

After Hannah Hampton's exploits for Aston Villa earlier against Leicester, Emily Ramsey goes in where it hurts to thwart Spurs after Ashleigh Neville's great ball to Josie Green.

    Superb from the Birmingham stopper.

Phil: Seems like City weren't too happy about everyone touting Arsenal and Chelsea as the two favourites.

    Everton 0-4 Man City

Oh, how have Everton not scored?

A corner is swung in and drops at the back post but two players can't get a touch to poke the ball home, much to their frustration.

It would have at least given the fans here something to cheer.

Not a bad strike from Steph Houghton to make it 4-0 was it?

  7. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Tottenham 0-0 Birmingham

Birmingham have spent the opening 15 minutes pretty much camped inside their own half but keeper Emily Ramsey has yet to be forced into a serious save.

The flag is up, but take nothing away from this save from City keeper Karima Benameur, rising to tip a header from the recently-introduced Valarie Gauvin onto the bar. Superb.

Another City sub. Just casually throwing Jill Scott into the action.

    Laura Coombs departs.

Jessica Naz is really making her presence felt. Having gone close to breaking the deadlock, she swings in a dangerous free-kick which flashes just wide. The opening 10 minutes have belonged to Spurs.

    Tottenham 0-0 Birmingham

Lots of families in the crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Ticket prices were kept deliberately low at £6.50, £4.50 and £3.50 and there are some who are experiencing this terrific venue for the first time.

They've seen the hosts get off to a bright start. Jessica Naz has just drilled an attempt narrowly wide.

City playing keep-ball now. Really rubbing their dominance in.

Alanna Kennedy spent last season at Spurs and played in midfield a lot. She's a natural centre-half for Australia and that's where she's starting her Manchester City debut, alongside Steph Houghton.

    Everton 0-4 Man City

Lauren Hemp and another summer signing Alanna Kennedy are on for City. Janine Beckie's fine work is done as is that of Alex Greenwood.

  18. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

A terrific response from fans who applauded as both teams took the knee before kick-off.

  19. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Everton 0-4 Man City

Manchester City stand firm at the back to keep Everton out. A free-kick from out wide is well-delivered by a City head is there first.

The win is in the bag now. It is all about keeping that clean sheet to go with it.
