What about Frank Lampard not signing for New York City and pitching up at Man City much to Chelsea’s angst?

    Anon

Lampard came off the bench to score a late equaliser against Chelsea during his second game for City in 2014. He was applauded by both sets of fans as he refused to celebrate his goal. Who remembers this?

    "What's a Geordie?"

"Someone who lives in the Toon."

Santiago Munoz's move to Newcastle seems familiar, like a movie script coming to life.

The 18-year-old will initially join the club's academy side as he gets accustomed to life in the north east.

  5. 'He has quality and pace' - Bamford on Jamespublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    England

A couple of questions diverted Patrick Bamford away from England duty back to domestic transfers.

Namely Dan James' move from Manchester United to Elland Road and Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the Premier League.

"I think it would be easy to say he [Dan James] brings extreme pace but we have played against him a few times in the Premier League and you can see he has quality as well.

"I am sure he has a lot to offer and hopefully he can provide a fair few assists."

On Ronaldo, Bamford added: "I think some of the transfers in the Premier League this year have made the league even better than it was.

"All the top teams have strengthened and it is going to be fascinating to see who comes out on top. Being able to attract Ronaldo back to the Premier League, is going to be interesting."

  6. Time running out for Rodriguez & Evertonpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Everton may have unloaded one unwanted start in Moise Kean after he went back to Juventus on loan but what about another?

James Rodriguez is as out of Rafael Benitez's plans as out can be, but as yet no takers after the difficulties surrounding a proposed cash-plus-player deal involving Porto's Colombian winger Luis Diaz hindered that move.

It is a desperate situation for both parties as the clock ticks down, with Everton trying to find a way to move Rodriguez's expensive salary off the bill and the Colombian wondering if anyone will take him on.

A move suits both parties but time is running out.

On Marcelo Bielsa: "He’s a top manager who’s respected round the world. He’s one of the big reasons I’m here today. Just because he likes you it doesn’t mean you’ll play every week."

On playing at Elland Road: "More than looking forward to it – it’s been on my mind the last couple of days – the last time I was here was with Swansea and I got a loud roar from the crowd then and that’s when I wasn’t even playing for them."

Billy Grant, podcaster and blogger for Beesotted:

"We have one spare place in the squad and that looks like it will go to an incoming right-back. A few names have been banded about including Danish International Alexander Bah from Slavia Prague.

"Mads Roeslev and Sergi Canos have been playing in this position so far and they have covered well. However, it makes sense to get someone experienced playing at this position at a higher level."
