  1. Returning Hibeespublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hearts v Hibernian (12:00)

Jack Ross makes three changes to the side that beat Livingston 2-0 before the international break.

Paul Hanlon is back to lead the side as Darren McGregor drops out of the defence. Joe Newell also returns for Jake Doyle-Hayes in midfield and Chris Cadden replaces Jamie Murphy out wide.

  2. Kinglsey Neilson's only changepublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hearts v Hibernian (12:00)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, eh? That's the mantra for Robbie Neilson.

Stephen Kingsley replaces Andy Halliday at left wing-back for Hearts, who are basically able to field their strongest team, as much as a strongest XI really exists in the days of rotation.

The draw at home to Aberdeen is the only blip on Hearts' record this season.

  3. Hibs in the ascendancy?published at 11:30 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hearts v Hibernian (12:00)

Hibernian have finished above Hearts in the SPFL pyramid every season since they themselves returned to the top flight for the 2017/18 campaign.

Last season's third place was impressive, and they went deep in both cups - though lost to Hearts in the delayed 2020 Scottish Cup semi-final.

With Jack Ross now into his second full season, and key players Kevin Nisbet and Martin Boyle sticking around this seems like the campaign to make the most of the squad they've built and assert their position.

I'm sure Hearts will have something to say about that, though.

  4. 'Massive occasion'published at 11:26 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hearts v Hibernian (12:00)

    Craig Levein
    Former Hearts manager

It's a massive occasion, amplified by the fact the teams are tied at the top. It is also Hearts' first game as a fan-owned club, their first home derby since December 2019 and, best of all, the place will be packed to the rafters again.

You can read Craig Levein's thoughts in full here.

  5. Home bluespublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hearts v Hibernian (12:00)

The home side has won just once in the last eight Edinburgh derbies.

The last team to do so was Hearts, back in May 2018. Can they do so again this afternoon?

  6. Significant derby for Heartspublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hearts v Hibernian (12:00)

At the end of last month, Hearts completed the seven-year journey from near financial oblivion, to fan ownership as Ann Budge transferred the Foundation of Hearts her majority shareholding.

It was arguably the most significant moment in the club's history, and it adds something to today's derby.

Particularly given the stick which some Hibs fans dished out as Hearts stared over the cliff edge. All part of the rivalry fun.
