    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

    Quote Message

We've heard about Steven's half-time team talks before and he'll be in there just now winding the players up. Hopefully, he can come up with one of those rousing team talks that he's very famous for.

  2. 'Open and attacking first half'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

    HT: Rangers 0-1 Lyon

    Richard Foster
Former Rangers defender on BBC Scotland

    Quote Message

Both teams were trying to be attack-minded and go forward in the half. Rangers were controlling and going forward well, they created some good chances and looked dangerous. Kent's was probably Rangers' best chance. Lyon's wide players are worrying Rangers with the space they're managing to find, though.

  3. HALF-TIME - Rangers 0-1 Lyonpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

Karl Toko Ekambi's stunning strike is the difference. Plenty to be positive about for Rangers, but Lyon look good too.

  4. CLOSE!published at 45 mins

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

A bit of a let-off for Rangers right on half-time.

Malo Gusto gets on the overlap and puts in a great cross along the deck, which beats everyone and goes past the post.

  5. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

Just after that effort, Ryan Kent wanted a penalty for a challenge which brought him to the deck.

Replays show it was outside the box, but it's difficult to tell whether the Lyon player took the ball.

  6. 'Worldy of a save from Lopes'published at 20:45 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

    Mark Hateley
    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

    Quote Message

That is an absolute worldy of a save from Lopes. Kent drifts into space, commits the defender who he ends up going past and nearly passes it into the net.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 42 mins

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

Anthony Lopes has opened his top drawer and pulled out a stunning save.

Ryan Kent does brilliantly to spin away from his marker and fire a shot towards the bottom corner.

The Lyon goalkeeper wasn't having it though.

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

Cool as you like from Jerome Boateng. He nods Ryan Kent's clever scooped cross into the arms of his goalkeeper from a few yards out.

Anthony Lopes wasn't really expecting it. Almost snuck into the top corner.

  9. 'Great play from Lyon'published at 20:42 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

    Richard Foster
Former Rangers defender on BBC Scotland

    Quote Message

Great play from Lyon, it's cut back and Gusto should do better. Even though he's a fullback he should have done better and worked Allan McGregor there.

  10. CLOSE!published at 39 mins

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

It's Lyon's turn to threaten as they produce a nice move down the right.

Lucas Paqueta sends Houssem Aaouar into space, he cuts it back for Malo Gusto, who pulls his shot just wide.

  11. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

    Good effort from John Lundstram!

Ryan Kent gets to the by-line and knocks it to Alfredo Morelos, who feeds Lundstram on the edge of the box.

The former Sheffield United man fakes to shoot, then takes it on his left and the ball whistles just past the post.

  12. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

Rangers have been tidy enough so far, with Joe Aribo having had their best effort.

You kind of feel they're holding back a bit, though. Afraid of Lyon's threats on the break. Understandably.

  13. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

Islam Slimani goes in to the book for wiping out Leon Balogun.

The former Leicester man got nowhere near the ball.

  14. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

The Rangers fans behind their goal are claiming for a penalty as Bruno Guimaraes eases John Lundstram to the deck.

I think the Brazilian just gets across him. Too strong. Joe Aribo cracks one goalward but Anthony Lopes gets down low to make a good save.

  15. Sloppy from Rangerspublished at 20:29 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Someone has to get close to him, Toko-Ekambi has taken quite a big touch inside too, it's obvious he's setting it up. No one is coming over to help Lundstram out and McGregor has no chance to save it at all.

  16. 'Terrific goal'published at 20:27 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

    Rangers 0-1 Lyon

    Richard Foster
Former Rangers defender on BBC Scotland

    Quote Message

Terrific goal. He sets it about five feet outside the post and curls it back in. It's sloppy from Rangers after they lose it in the middle of the park. Lundstram allows him to come inside too easily, he's got to show him down the outside.

  17. goal

GOAL Rangers 0-1 Lyonpublished at 23 mins

    Karl Toko-Ekambi

    Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.

Take a bow, Karl Toko Ekambi. He receives the ball out on the left, cuts in and throws in a couple of step overs before curling the ball right into the corner.

No chance for Allan McGregor. The first shot on target of the night, too.

Free kick meets wall. Rebound on the edge of the box is put into the sky and out for a goal kick.

Rangers will take those all day long.

  19. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Rangers 0-0 Lyon

Steven Davis cuts down Bruno Guimaraes on the edge of the box. Danger here for Rangers.

  20. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Rangers 0-0 Lyon

Connor Goldson makes the most of his reprieve and launches a big diag for Borna Barisic on the left.

The Croatian's cross is inviting, but Lyon keeper Anthony Lopes is out to claim it.

    Rangers pressing, though.
