    Quote Message

Rangers are moving the ball around really well. Steve Davis never seems to get caught on the ball and he's anchoring the midfield well with Kamara in there too. Lyon don't look to be hurting Rangers at all yet. Very controlled from Rangers so far.

  2. Yellow for Goldsonpublished at 14 mins

    Rangers 0-0 Lyon

It's just a yellow card for the returning Connor Goldson. It is really reckless. It's a yellow in Scotland, but often a red in Europe.

Anyway, Rangers' defensive lynchpin is up and well. As is Ekambi.

  3. VAR check...published at 13 mins

    Rangers 0-0 Lyon

This is slightly concerning for Rangers. Connor Goldson goes in high across Karl Toko Ekambi, and hurts himself in the process.

A red card check going on here...

Some really nice stuff from Rangers so far. Joe Aribo, looking lively.

Alfredo Morelos dropping deep. He loves these nights.

    No chances, yet.

  11. 'Lyon Rangers biggest challenge yet'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

    Rangers v Lyon (20:00)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard knows his side face a tough test this evening.

"This is possibly the biggest challenge we’ve faced in Europe tonight," he told BT Sport.

"They’re normally a Champions League team so I don’t think my players need any extra motivation tonight. We’ve prepared really well and have respect for the opposition, but we’ve earned the right to be here at this stage now.

"A rocking Ibrox always helps and we’re responsible tonight for giving them a good performance.

"We’ve got a really strong team out but I wouldn’t be surprised if we need to go to the bench for three, four, or five changes tonight."

  12. 'McGregor like a fine wine' - Huttonpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

    Rangers v Lyon (20:00)

Rangers keeper Allan McGregor was a standout for Steven Gerrard's side in last season's Europa League campaign.

Ex-Ibrox full-back Alan Hutton says his former team-mate is "like a fine wine".

Can he be key again tonight on his return to the side?

  13. Dembele out for inconsistent Lyonpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

    Rangers v Lyon (20:00)

The last time Lyon came to Ibrox in 2007 they posed a far more formidable looking side, with the likes of Brazilian set-piece master Juninho, Italy full-back Fabio Grosso and a young Karim Benzema in their ranks.

Peter Bosz's current side have won just two of their opening five Ligue 1 games and sit seventh in the table, but both those wins have come in their last two games.

The French side are also without ex-Celtic striker Moussa Dembele due to injury, but they have still named a strong starting line-up.

Highly-rated midfielder Houssem Aouar has been touted with big moves and starts in the engine room, while ex-Bayern Munich man Jerome Boateng and former Celtic defender Jason Denayer form the centre-back pairing.

  14. Gerrard names four changes as key men returnpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has made four changes to the side that fought back to beat St Johnstone on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Allan McGregor and defenders Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic return, with John Lundstram coming into midfield.

Out go Jon McLaughlin, Calvin Bassey and Kemar Roofe - who are all on the bench - plus Filip Helander, who will be out until December.

Celtic know they can compete in this group after tonight. From an attacking point of view, with Kyogo added in too, they'll still be confident.

  18. FULL-TIME - Real Betis 4-3 Celticpublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

A night which promised so much for Celtic, has delivered zero points in the end.

They raced into a 2-0 lead despite the absence of some key players, before losing all control.

Betis scored four unanswered goals as they came roaring back for victory, despite Anthony Ralston's late third for Celtic. A great watch.
