Thing I can't understand is Ole saying "we're so close" I just don't know what he's seeing. What are we close to?? We're further away from last year.

    Gareth Kent

Please could Peter (13:15) enlighten me as to what Plan A is?

What a terrible goal to concede.

David de Gea couldn't do anything initially, but my god, what are Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw doing on the back post?

They should clear the ball. Maguire and Shaw both leave it, they both have the chance to clear it, thinking that either the keeper is coming out for it or that it's going out for a corner.

    Oh my god.

Loud boos echo around Old Trafford as the teams head for the dressing room. It's as bad as the scoreline looks for United.

Disaster for United and David de Gea.

A second goal has been coming but that was appalling defending by United as Bernardo Silva is allowed to slide in and beat United's keeper at the near post.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were both slow to react but that's excellent vision by Silva to meet Joao Cancelo's ball.

Ronaldo, in a good attacking position, has just passed to a blue shirt. He is human after all.

Peter: It strikes me that Solskjaer has a Plan A... which they go out and execute... but if it doesn't work there's no Plan B... he seems to go "run around for 20 mins or so while I give it some thought".

Karl: Fred gets a lot of stick, but he's doing the work of three men in there. If only others did the same. Mason Greenwood I'm looking at you.

The good news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as half-time looms is that his side are not 4-0 down like they were at the break against Liverpool.

Ederson is called into action to keep out Cristiano Ronaldo but it wouldn't have counted as he was offside.

The rain is coming down now. It's not helping the mood inside Old Trafford.

United try to play out from the back and it's not working for them.

The one time David de Gea said 'okay everyone get forward' from a goal kick, the whole crowd went wild and applauded it.

They try to play out and they give the ball away. Straight away, City create chances.

Love a co-commentator who does not mince his words. Fair to say Peter Schmeichel is not impressed.

David de Gea has made five big saves in the space of eight minutes.

It simply isn't good enough. Man City are far too comfortable. United haven't worked out how to deal with their attacking players.

Nine attempts, four on target, one goal.

But will City regret not adding to their lead?

United have established a reputation for late comebacks.

David de Gea 0-1 Man City.

The United keeper is keeping his team in this.

The Spaniard gets down to deny Kevin de Bruyne this time.

It's one way traffic. City cannot believe they are not further ahead.

  15. De Ge keeping Man Utd in itpublished at 13:07 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2021

    Man Utd 0-1 Man City

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Old Trafford

Manchester United fans given hope by that one chance but otherwise they have been utterly dominated by Manchester City and they owe De Gea for those saves.

The home supporters are growing increasingly agitated at United's hapless attempts to play out from the back.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 33 mins

    Man Utd 0-1 Man City

Another great save by David de Gea.

Phil Foden is allowed to roam unchallenged before sending in a cross which Victor Lindelof pokes towards his own net before De Gea gets down to keep out.

A second own goal would have been very funny.

  20. 'Massive chance, great save'published at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2021

    Man Utd 0-1 Man City

    Peter Schmeichel
Former Manchester United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Out of absolutely nothing, one pass and Phil Foden was through.

A massive chance then for Gabriel Jesus to score, but what a great save by David de Gea.
