    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

Virgil van Dijk looks to hoist one over the top and Takehiro Tomiyasu's header falls into the path of Konstantinos Tsimikas, but the Liverpool left-back can't make anything of it.

The Reds then win it back in midfield and shift it to Mo Salah, who will fancy his chances on the edge of the box... but drags wide.

    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

Liverpool look to play it out from the back, with Alisson getting plenty of early touches, but those bright yellow Arsenal shirts are swarming around and eventually make the hosts knock it long towards Sadio Mane, who fouls Ben White.

West Ham's defeat to Wolves means Liverpool can jump above them with victory over Arsenal tonight.

Arsenal would need a pretty hefty win to go above the Hammers on goal difference but they can move level on points.

Big, big game for both teams this - an Arsenal win would take them into the top four for the first time in more than a year, a Liverpool victory would send them second.

  8. Is Arsenal's plan coming together?published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Trust the process.

The phrase has been something of a mantra for Arsenal during Mikel Arteta's time as boss.

From the outset, here was a respected former player, schooled in management by the great Pep Guardiola, with a plan to lead a lost club back onto a purposeful path to glory.

In the darkest days, most notably the three straight, humbling losses to begin this league season, it became a stick with which disgruntled supporters sarcastically beat the Spaniard.

But Arteta's team are now unbeaten in eight league games - 10 including the Carabao Cup - and are fifth in the table with a young, largely new squad that is starting to knit together.

So has that oft-used phrase now regained some of its legitimacy and is the plan finally starting to come together?

  10. Unpunished Andersen challenge 'a farce' - Dychepublished at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Burnley 3-3 Crystal Palace

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, speaking about Joachim Andersen's challenge on Chris Wood going unpunished as the Clarets striker looked to break through on goal: "It's bizarre. We know football is trying to get back to what we want, less soft fouls, but that's a farce for me.

"It's two hands round the centre forward as he's through on goal, that has to be dealt with, and it wasn't.

"The other one was James Tarkowski getting booked for trying to stop trouble, which I've never seen before. He's actually trying to stop Wilfried Zaha getting into trouble and somehow Tarky gets booked."

  11. 'What I want is points, points, points'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Wolves 1-0 West Ham

    Wolves

Wolves manager Bruno Lage, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was another good performance in the first half. We controlled the game since the beginning. When you play against a team like West Ham, you need to be careful.

"All the players did everything we planned so I’m very happy. I said a few minutes before the game that what I want today is very simple – give the same feeling to the fans that you give to me.

"Ruben [Neves] and Joao [Moutinho] controlled the game with the ball. We needed to press when they had the ball – they’re very dangerous with the goals they score.

"We need to play with the ball because we can control the game more – that’s the point.

"What I want now is points. The winter is very hard for us. What I want now is points, points, points."

  12. 'I'm really happy to be back'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Wolves 1-0 West Ham

    Wolves

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez: "We're fighting as a team and as a family. This is how we have to keep going.

"We knew we were beaten in the last match, so this was a good opportunity today to bounce back.

"I had a difficult part of my life this last year. I knew from the first moment that I would be back, and I’m here.

"I’m enjoying what I’m doing with the team and the club. I’m really happy to be back."

I'm a 62 year old Utd supporter who can't quite believe some of the comments by so called other Utd fans berating Harry Maguire. He has been a stand out performer for Utd since he joined the club. He gives 100% commitment every time he turns out for Utd. In the recent UEFA European Championships he was a star performer and you don't become a bad player overnight. So show some sort of perspective.

    Shaun

It's time Fergie went down and told these pampered lot what it means to play for the club. Give them the hairdryer. Then they'll go crying to their agents and we'll get rid of the players not in it for pride

  14. 'We need to concede less' - Saint-Maximinpublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Newcastle 3-3 Brentford

    Newcastle United

Allan Saint-Maximin, whose goal earned Newcastle a point, told BBC Sport:

"We played good football, we tried to attack a lot but for sure we need to concede less and if we can do that, I’m sure we are going to win more games.

"I feel a bit bad today because I tried to do my best to help my team but it still the same again – I score but we draw. So I will do my best and make sure the next time I score it is to win the game.

"But it’s so important [the result] because it is better to draw than lose and I think the team showed good character because it is not easy to come back. We just have to keep going, stay together and try to do our best to win the next game."

On Newcastle's attacking tactics today: "If you see the game against Brighton I had no shots in 95 minutes – now I get four shots and I have more chances to score. It’s much better for me and gives me the opportunity to help the team more because my job is to score goals and make assists, to be an important player."

  15. Plenty of gusto, but lacking guilepublished at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

What will the hotel-confined Eddie Howe made of that?

It was certainly entertaining and symptomatic of Newcastle's season: attack good, defence not so good.

However, there was plenty of applause from fans at the final whistle after a performance which showed plenty of gusto, but perhaps lacked guile.

Howe will be desperate to get on the training pitch on Monday to try and fix the issues. Alas, he'll still be confined to his hotel room as his coaches take the players training ahead of their trip to Arsenal next Saturday.

  17. 'Embarrassing, nightmare after nightmare'published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Watford 4-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea: "There's not much to say - it was embarrassing to see Man United play like we did today. It's not acceptable - the way we were playing and doing things. It's easy to blame the manager or the staff but sometimes it's the players. We need to show much more than we are doing.

"Embarrassing first half - we could've conceded four goals in 45 minutes. It was hard to watch the team playing today - it was nightmare after nightmare. It's not acceptable.

"We are trying to give our best and fight for the team but for sure something is very wrong. You can see in the games - it's very low level, very poor. Sorry to the fans, once again.

"I've been in difficult moments and always believe in myself but there are difficult moments we have to be strong in mind and body. We are paid to play for United and to do better than that.

"This is not Manchester United or the way we ought to play - it's difficult to say more than that.

"It's been very bad for a long time - a club like Man United we have to be fighting for trophies and fighting for big things and to be honest we are far from that. Let's see - we have to keep working hard and stick together. We always say the same things but it's the truth - we have to look at ourselves and see where we can improve."

    FT: Norwich 2-1 Southampton

    Marc Webber
    Final Score at Carrow Road

The two D Smiths at the club (Delia and Dean) had broad smiles for their players at the end.

It will be the second half which created the most of them.

Dean Smith’s decision to bring on Josh Sargent at half time was the spark that lit the locals into action and Norwich looked like a side that could survive -even if you could point a finger at Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy for not stopping Grant Hanley’s header.

Saints will rue not being clinical enough in that first half. It was there for the taking for them.
