  1. Howe 'deserves credit' for equaliser - Tindallpublished at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Newcastle 3-3 Brentford

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United assistant boss Jason Tindall to BBC Match of the Day: "Obviously we wanted to win the game today, that’s what we set out to do. After going behind twice, not to lose the game was also important. It was a really positive performance from the guys.

"We asked them to play with a lot more intensity and I think you could see the work we had been doing on the training ground come out. We looked a lot more of an attacking threat today – we had 23 shots at goal, nine on target so I think it was a big step forward for us.

"We know we’ve got goals in the team, we know we’ve got to be better at the other end defensively but we weren’t going to fix everything in such a short space of time but reflecting back on the game, was there an improvement in the performance? I think the answer was yes."

On new boss Eddie Howe missing his first game in charge due to Covid: "We were in dialogue throughout the game, we had a direct link. We spoke as often as we needed to during the game. It was a shame Eddie wasn’t able to be here today because I know how much it meant to him.

"We always talk together on the touchline together when Eddie is here, we always communicate and run past things with each other – but ultimately he is the manager and he makes the calls. At 3-2 down, Ryan Fraser coming on and putting in a great cross for Maxi to equalise, I think he [Howe] has got to take a lot of credit for that."

  2. 'We didn't play as well as we have done'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Wolves 1-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Probably no complaints. We started the game very well in the first 15 or 20 minutes but didn’t really have our shooting boots on.

"All the Premier League games are really tight. I don’t think there’s much between the teams. It has been really tight in all the games we’ve played this season.

"I thought Wolves played very well, but they’ve been doing that this season. They’ve been playing good football.

"All-round we just didn’t play as well as we have done recently. It felt as if it was going to need to be something special for us to score. That was the disappointing bit.

"We’ve had more players than we’ve had on international duty and you perhaps saw that today, but that’s no excuse. It’s the same at other clubs."

  3. 'The standards have gone up under Gerrard'published at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Aston Villa 2-0 Brighton

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins to Match of the Day: “It was nice. I try and do that every time in training and luckily it went in today. It was a nice feeling to get my first goal in front of the Holte End.

“Brighton must have had 65% possession - they are a very good team and controlled the game. It was hard for us because it was the first game back after some results. It was nice to see the game out after losing a 2-0 lead against Wolves the other week.

“It has been a change but it has been really good. It has been intense and the standards have gone up - that is no disrespect to Dean Smith but he’s brought in some new rules and everybody was on it.

“I’ll be here all day if I was to say the rules - there are quite a few.”

  4. 'The players have seen they can reach the standard required'published at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Norwich 2-1 Southampton

    Norwich City

Norwich City manager Dean Smith to Sky Sports: "We were not nearly good enough [in the first half]. We were second best but we engaged them higher up the pitch and we were the better team in the second half.

"Certainly it's a great win and what we need. I had spoken to the players before - I told them football is a simple game and you can't go under when you concede and you can't get too high when you score.

"Tim [Krul's] save comes from Grant [Hanley's] mistake and I think he paid Tim back there with the header at the end. The [player's] attitude is spot on and I'm really pleased for the captain to score the winning goal today.

"The players have seen today they can get to that standard. We will keep setting standards for them. We will take one game at a time, there is a building block there today. They deserve that win."

  5. 'The perfect start but we need to prove we can back it up'published at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Aston Villa 2-0 Brighton

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard talking to Match of the Day: "It feels really good and it was the result that we dreamt of. It was the perfect start for us but now we've got to go and prove that we can back it up. I'm really pleased with the clean sheet and everything we asked of the players they've done. I thought we deserved it - Brighton had a lot of possession but in the areas that we wanted them to. It is a good start but we've got to back it up now.

"There is no better sight in football than a top number nine opening up like that and putting a top class finish in. The Holte End played their part today as did the rest of the ground. You can only win games if you defend your goal well and there were two top quality blocks in the first half.

"We'd lost five on the spin and you could tell the crowd were edgy and the players were at times. I thought the subs brought a lot and we looked so dangerous in the last 10 minutes of the game. We could have scored another. We know we've got firepower and talented powers - we've just got to get the balance right to defend our goal."

  6. 'We had the better chances'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Newcastle 3-3 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank to BBC Match of the Day: "We were definitely the guests that were not invited to this potential party - and it didn't get any better after 10 minutes when we really made the party explode.

"But I'm very pleased with the mentality and the attitude and the presence my players showed getting back into the game and getting in front.

"So the positive is the offensive part of the game, scoring three goals and creating a lot more dangerous situations - but when you score three goals away from home, in any Premier League game, or any game around the world, you need to be able to take three points.

"We stayed cool and composed throughout the game and I think that says a lot about us, as a promoted club - to be able to be that dangerous in creating chances is a massive thing.

"It was a game that could have gone both ways - I'm slightly biased but I think we had the better chances to win it."

  7. 'Perfect first half'published at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Watford 4-1 Man Utd

    Watford

Watford manager Claudio Ranieri speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "It was a fantastic performance, in the first half we were perfect. Second half we conceded some good chances, we know they are a great team but we were very satisfied at the end as we were not scared and continued to attack.

"I told my players we can win, lose or draw, that’s not important but it is important I see my philosophy in my players. They made a good performance, the result is important and also we have 15 points. That is a milestone to start to do something good.

"It will be a battle until the end and I want to achieve 40 points as soon as possible."

  8. 'There's no point saying too much'published at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Watford 4-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to Sky Sports: "There's no point saying too much - we didn't handle the first-half at all. We got out fought in the first half and allowed them to get in our box too easy. That's costly against a physical team like Watford. We never got on the ball either. Second-half was so much better, they created five or six chances but we gave ourselves a mountain to climb, to catch two goals in the Premier League is impossible.

"First-half was very, very poor. We need to get the players in a better frame of mind to start the game because second-half it's like they've got nothing to lose they played well."

On what is going wrong: "That's human beings - I've got to say we're surprised at all these lads because they are good lads, top professionals, when it's going against you it's hard to play with that mental block. Second-half, we come with out nothing to lose, score a goal created loads of chances but it wasn't enough."

On Harry Maguire red card: "That's a yellow card, it's a bad touch but the first yellow card should never have happened because he was offside. That's nit-picking, that's for another day. Anyway, it was a mistake and we had the upper hand in the second-half, we pressed them back we played well for another five-ten minutes after that but then the energy died and they scored two goals to finish the game off.

"It's a definite big, big challenge for everyone in and around the club."

A slow start that sparked into life when Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta squared up and Sadio Mane then headed Liverpool into the lead.

Ouchy. Bit of a naughty one from Sadio Mane, who snaps away at Ben White as the ball is creeping out for a throw-in. He's booked for that tackle.

Think that might be the first time Arsenal have tested Alisson, and it's Albert Sambi Lokonga from distance. The midfielder strikes it well enough but it is straight at the Reds stopper.
