  5. 'We will keep fighting'published at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's always important to win home games, it's difficult to win any game in this league. you lose the last game and the boys go to nearly 15 different countries, come back, some of them injured, unable to play, some can play but haven't played much. And we had one day to prepare for a game against a team in form.

"It wasn't a top class performance but it was very controlled and mature and exciting in other parts. The goals we scored were well played, worked for in counter-pressing situations. I like these goals because they cause problems for the opponents - you can be greedy in these situations and we were today."

On argument with Mikel Arteta: "It wasn't the plan - the situation was that Sadio [Mane] goes for a clean heading challenge, no one makes a foul and they get up and for me it's a bit too obvious that there was nothing. He's just a physical player - you can't do that it happens too often and it's not right. When they rise up from the bench it's difficult to not get up and say something.

"After 1-0 for about five minutes Arsenal had their best phase. It was a relief to get the second and we have to be in more control in these moments. I said a few little things at half-time and then we played really good football and could've scored more. They made a few really good saves today but after half-time we saw it out. Let's hope that we can see it through to the next game - we will keep fighting."

  6. 'We completely crashed'published at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: "I think the first half was very competitive. We both had moments and we competed well.

"At 1-0 down we go to half-time, it is the moment we have to be patient but we were completely the opposite. We completely crashed. That's why we lose the game - the rest is a consequence of the frustration of having to chase the game.

"We know they will punish you. They can press, they are one of the best at it. Mistakes are a part of football. They have been the best team in Europe because they can dominate in every aspect. They were better than us today."

On both managers receiving a yellow card: "He was defending his team, I was defending my team, that's it. It doesn't matter. Yes I did [speak to Jurgen Klopp after the match] and I congratulated him. These moments are left on the pitch.

"It was a huge test. We showed for 45 minutes we could compete with them. We crashed for 15-20 minutes, we threw the game away and that is the learning from today. We take the things we have to learn from today and move on. We have to carry on and it is about how we react now as a team."

How about this for a stat? That was Alisson's 50th Premier League clean sheet in his 111th game in the competition.

It makes the Brazilian the fifth fastest goalkeeper to reach his half century in the competition after Peter Schmeichel (108), Ederson (106), Pepe Reina (92) and Petr Cech (82).

  8. 'We're here for one reason - to compete for the title'published at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We always try and focus on ourselves and we're here for one reason and it's to compete for the title. We had a disappointing result last week and that's at the back of your mind against big teams. We knew the job we had in hand it was important for us to bounce back from the performance and the result against West Ham. We're most happy with the performance that brought the three points.

"If you can keep clean sheets you have a chance of winning the game - we have defended throughout the team as well as we needed to. We defend in a certain way and that's winning the ball back high and when we don't do that it has a knock on effect further back which we've suffered with a bit in recent games.

"We defended better from the front today, that gives us the basis and the defenders don't have as much to do. It's our job further up the pitch to defend better as a team. Clean sheet is massive and we have talent in the team to score goals which they did well today.

"I was happy with certain aspects of my game - defending and helping the team and winning the ball back, sometimes that's the least you can do. I should've scored to be honest, it was a mishit - there were areas I could've been better and would've liked to be better."

On Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta argument: "It was hard to not notice that - our job to keep focussed on what's happening on the pitch. The crowd picked up and benefited from that energy, maybe that was the turning point in terms of energy and atmosphere. It's our job to create the atmosphere with how we're playing and we did that today and the crowd were excellent. I've been the away side at Anfield and it makes things tougher, on this side it helps you. We stayed focussed and got on with the job in hand it was a good performance and we saw the game out well."

  9. Reds love facing the Gunners...published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have scored more Premier League goals against Arsenal (37) than one side has against any other since October 2015, whilst only versus Crystal Palace (11) have the Reds recorded more top-flight wins since the German took charge than against the Gunners (8).

Sadio Mane has scored eight times against Arsenal during his Premier League career, netting more often only versus Crystal Palace (13).

Mo Salah's strike was Liverpool's 100th in the Premier League against Arsenal - only against Newcastle (105) have the Reds scored more in the competition.

  10. 'They went up like it was a red card'published at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Liverpool

More from Jurgen Klopp, on both managers receiving a yellow card: "It was about the situation that it was no foul from Sadio [Mane] but the Arsenal bench went up like it was a red card. I asked what they want in that situation.

"We had to take Sadio off against Atletico [Madrid in the Champions League] because they wanted him to get a yellow card. The referee did really well in that situation - I deserved a yellow card. It wasn't not OK and that is what I said. It just happened in the moment.

"We grew into the game. It was not always a super game it was just a controlled game. We had to find way to break them down. They were full of confidence. We found a way back in the game and it was a super performance all over."

On Trent Alexander-Arnold: "He's a good player. The second one - the counter press was insane. Trent is there and for him it's a no-brainer he just needs a target player. The goals were all great and all important. Good for our supporters to have something to enjoy obviously."

  11. 'An exceptional performance'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "All the games are opportunities for us. It was an exceptional performance. We grew into the game, we got better and better.

"We controlled the game in a good way and played exciting stuff in the right moments. It was a mixture of a mature and exciting performance. In games like this it's important you keep your opponent as far away from your goal as possible and be decisive in the other areas.

"This league is incredibly intense. Now the most intense part of the season is ahead of us. December and January will be insane. We have players coming back, but the boys who played today did really well and did exactly what they had to do. We know what Arsenal can do but they couldn't do it today- that is the biggest compliment I can pay to my team.

"It feels great because it was really good - we should never take something like this for granted. You have to fight through different phases in a game and in a season. It's another point from when we go on."

  12. 'Young team showing improvements'published at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

More from Aaron Ramsdale, on his various saves: "It doesn't matter we have lost the game and we're a team. This young team are showing improvements - it's a blip and it's not a sprint and this game won't define our season. I did make saves but that's what I'm there to do.

"Naturally you have to have the reactions but we work on all types of situations through the week and it's no surprise that week by week things you work on come out in the game. Everything has to be worked on and all strengths have to become super strengths and weaknesses have to become strengths."

On playing out from the back: "As a team we need to improve there and become louder with each other - change it up a bit, go longer but we still want to come back to our philosophy and play our football.

"This game will not define our season - tough start to the season then 10 games unbeaten. We are realistic, we know it's a tough place to come and we'll be prepared now. We will come in on Monday head up chest out, we won't be moping around."

Mo Salah has scored 11 goals in the Premier League this season and has contributed to goals in each of the past 10 games, scoring 10 times and making five assists.

  14. 'We got punished'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale speaking to Sky Sports: "It's one of the toughest places if not the toughest to come. We did well for the first 45 minutes, they might've had more of the ball but we contained them. Second-half showed we have got a lot improvement to come, we made mistakes but that's life and football. We got punished and that's what the top teams do.

"For all their possession, I know I'll have to make saves and becomes that's part and parcel I felt we were doing well, a goal from a set-piece which we have been doing well at. At the start of the second we were a bit naive and we needed to make better decisions on the pitch."

Could he have done better for the first goal? "I've not seen it back. It's a very good header into the ground on a wet surface but I think I could do better. I pride myself on high standards and it's one I need to look at and possibly improve in the future."

Chris Fleming: 5 points off 2nd place is still good for Arsenal. 4th remains the target.

Steve in Milan: Apart from the top 4 and, strange to say, Palace everyone is zero or negative GD

Cuz: The amount of people saying "that's put Arsenal back in their place" is worrying. No Arsenal fan was under any illusion that this was anything more than a challenge of top 4 credentials for a very young team. Long way to go yet

  16. Streak...published at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

Liverpool have scored in each of their past 22 games in the Premier League, netting 56 times in that run - that's their best streak since they scored in 36 successive games from 10 March 2019 to 24 February 2020.

  17. 'The second half was outstanding - they could only see red blurs'published at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold speaking to Sky Sports: "A team of our quality shouldn't be losing games. The way the league is going, any loss is a bad loss. We have bounced back the best way we could. A very good performance.

"It was exactly what we needed - nothing more and nothing less. They came as two banks of four and were tough to break down but we scored our goals and put the game to bed. To see out the clean sheet is very good.

"First half we had that aggression but didn't capitalise on it. The first 15-20 minutes of the second half were as good as we've pressed all season. We were all over them - they were just seeing red blurs all over the place. That second half was outstanding.

"It's always good to contribute to the team. Scoring, creating goals is what my game is based on. I'm happy with that - I just need to keep up that form. All games are very important and hopefully I can keep that form up.

"I'm feeling good out there. I'm playing with freedom and finding myself in positions I haven't previously. It's going really nicely. These are the levels I expect of myself."

Steve: Thats put arsenal back in their place, they had a good run but nothing more than that.

Daniel Cheng: We are still a long way away from challenging for the title. This result proves it. Lacking a bit of experience and leadership in areas. Recent results before have suggested some progress but a long way to go
