Five of Italy’s last 11 goals scored at the Women’s Euros have been netted by substitutes, including Martina Piemonte today.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto has scored 26 goals in 31 appearances for France, included 23 in 23 starts. Since her senior debut for the nation, her 26 goals are 12 more than any other player for Les Bleues.

Grace Geyoro, making her 50th senior international appearance for France, became the first player ever to score a hat-trick in the first half of a Women’s European Championship match.

They can do better than they did in the second half, but it's a great start, a great signal to send out to their opponents. But I know the coach and she will be telling them now to just focus on the next game.

France have now won their opening game in each of the last five Women’s Euros.

They were only the third side to score five goals in their opening game of an edition of the competition, after Norway in 1997 (5-0 v Denmark) and England in 2017 (6-0 v Scotland).

Italy conceded five goals in a Women’s Euros match for only ther second time, having also done so in a 5-3 defeat by Norway in 2005.

This defeat was their joint-heaviest in the competition, alongside a 4-0 loss to Germany in 2005.

A bit of a strange game in the end. Certainly hugely entertaining and France's quality of attack is to be feared but I don't think Italy will finish too disappointed. France may have stepped off after the break with the damage done but Italy did show some real quality going forward.

France scored five goals in a Women’s Euros match for the very first time, with this their biggest ever win in the competition.

They became the first team to ever score five goals in a first half of the Women's Euros.

It's all over. France win thanks to their five-star first-half performance.

But Italy will take some confidence away from their second-half showing.
