"In Italy there is great anticipation for the women's national team for two reasons: The first is the excellent performance made in France 2019 when the team reached the quarter-finals; the second is the lack of qualification, for the second consecutive edition, of the men's national team for the World Cup in Qatar.

"However, recent performances of the women's team have not been very convincing, although a victory in Switzerland in April allowed them to move into top spot in their World Cup qualifying group.

"This shows that the team have built a strong unit and know how to get results when it counts. The first goal for this summer's Euros is to qualify from the group stages."

Tiziana Pikler, director of Italian women's football magazine L Football, assesses their chances this summer.

France have still not won a women's major tournament but will hope to change that this summer.

However, France midfielder Kenza Dali, who plays in the WSL with Everton, told me the Euros is "harder to win" than a World Cup.

"In Europe the level is very close. At a World Cup you have some games where the gap is massive," she said.

"At the Euros you can’t pick a team and say they will win it. There’s Spain, England, Italy had a really good World Cup, Germany and the Netherlands. There’s a lot of teams!

"It’s really exciting because there’s big competition."

Wendie Renard is a leader on and off the field and she will share her expertise with all players. She hates losing and she has been losing too much with the national team.

She knows her responsibility and wants to win this title. She has missed too many titles.

Both teams were warming up a little earlier and there were a fair few people watching on pitchside in suits. Don't let the shade deceive you, this is absolutely not suit weather.

It has been 29C in Rotherham today. Hotter than in the actual New York.

France are ranked third in the world and have some of the most talented players in Europe - so why have they never won a women's major tournament?

Corinne Diacre's side have failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals of the past four major tournaments and were knocked out by eventual winners the United States at their home World Cup in 2019.

Off-field distractions and controversies, mixed with disappointing results in past tournaments, has led to many writing them off this summer - but will they produce the goods at Euro 2022?

Want to know a fascinating, and I use the word fascinating very loosely, fact about the New York Stadium?

It's not named after the city in the US but actually after the land it is built on (New York Way), however, the factory opposite the ground did used to make fire hydrants for New York City.

    So, there you go...

We have seen 14 of the 16 teams at Euro 2022.

Some, like Germany, have impressed. Others, like England, got the job done. And then some, like Sweden and the Netherlands, were too evenly matched.

And now the final two countries left to have a go, France and Italy, go head to head in the exotic location of New York.
