While Iceland have brought their prime minister, Belgium have brought their band to Euro 2022.

There are an estimated 600 fans in Manchester cheering on the Red Flames, who are making their second appearance at the European Women's Championship.

Their star player is Tessa Wullaert, who is also a former Manchester City player. Will she make an impact on her return to her old stomping ground?

  2. 'The game against Iceland will be the most important one'published at 16:19 British Summer Time 10 July 2022

Maryan Mahieu, editor of Belgian women's football website vrouwenvoetbal.be, assesses their chances this summer.

    How will Belgium do?

"The Red Flames have qualified for the Euros for the second time, which is already a good achievement for Belgium, who have never made it to a World Cup.

"The expectation from inside the team, and the coach, is that they want to reach the second round. But from the outside, when you see the group that they are in, that will be very tough. Most people in the media think that will not be possible. The first game, against Iceland, will be the most important one.

"Over the last 12 months the team has done well in World Cup qualifying, except against a team like Norway who proved to be too strong. The strength of the group is the team spirit - it's a team where everybody wants to play for each other, and there is also a lot of experience.

"The focus is more on the defence than the attack. Most of the time it's a wait and see to start with and then, if they haven't conceded, they try to take the game more and more into their own hands."

  4. 'A step back'published at 16:13 British Summer Time 10 July 2022

    Belgium v Iceland (17:00 BST)

Iceland playing two of their European Championship group games at a "training ground" is a "shocking" decision, midfielder Sara Bjork Gunnarsdottir said in June.

Iceland face Belgium and Italy at the Manchester City Academy Stadium, which has a capacity of 4,700 for the Euros. The stadium is part of a wider training complex but hosts City's women's games.

However, Gunnarsdottir told Their Pitch podcast: , external"I'm a little bit disappointed. It's shocking. Playing in England there are so many stadiums and we have a training ground from City taking what, 4,000 spectators.

"It's embarrassing. It's not the respect [we deserve]. Watch women's football today, they are filling out the stadiums. You see Barcelona and Madrid, 95,000 watching the game [at Camp Nou]. They [Euros organisers] are not prepared that we will sell more tickets than 4,000.

"It's disrespectful towards women's football because it's so much bigger than people think. You think women's football is getting two steps ahead but then something comes up like that it's just a step back."

They are rolling out the red carpet at Manchester City's Academy Stadium as Iceland bring noise and their prime minister to the Euro 2022 party.

Katrín Jakobsdottir has flown in for her country's first group game against Belgium and will be among an estimated 2,000 Iceland fans at the home of Manchester City women's team.

Fans have been warming up for the game at a fan park in the city centre where the prime minster joined fans as they practiced the Viking clap which came to prominence at the men's Euro 2016 in France.

The action involves fans raising their hands in the air before a thunderous clap and a chant.

It certainly woke the locals up.
