  1. England 'lucky to be 2-0 up'published at 21:00 British Summer Time 15 July 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-2 England

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on BBC One

I thought England lacked intensity in the first half and are lucky to go in 2-0 up. It was crying out for more movement, we needed some of our midfielders to run in behind and create space. I think the changes for England will not start until 60 or 70 minutes. It is really exhausting for Northern Ireland to do what they have been doing and it is the concentration levels that will be difficult for them.

Lauren Wade has been fantastic driving inside from wide areas. She is doing a fantastic job of coming in from the right-hand side and joining up with the attack.

You can't let a striker be alone in the box. Norway are lacking a bit of confidence. They haven't found their rhythm. Because they're so disorganised they can't get any control.

That first half was reminiscent of the game at Wembley in October, where Northern Ireland held out for 60 minutes before England hit top gear.

They gave everything in that half, so the break has probably come at a good time to reset and go again for their final 45 minutes at the Euros.

This will be about recharging the batteries for Northern Ireland and asking them to commit to the game a bit more. The players are a bit frightened to run forward, go and take the game to them. Don't give it up as a lost cause. Go out and try and make an impression in the second half.

  8. NI 'have shown where England are weak'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 15 July 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-2 England

    Ian Wright
Former Arsenal striker on BBC One

Northern Ireland are very organised and England have had to show patience because Northern Ireland have shown instances where England are weak and they have come at us.

    Austria 1-0 Norway

    John Arne Riise
Former Norway defender on BBC Three

As a team Norway look tactically awful. There is too much distance between the players, too many wrong passes. I'm very disappointed in the reaction from the England game.

There is time to change it. At the moment we deserve to go out.

It was never going to be as good as the 6-0 half-time scoreline against Norway but England, though it was frustrating at times, will be pretty satisfied with that. They were moving the ball quicker, cleaner and with more purpose by the end of the half. Lauren Hemp and Beth Mead have been excellent, while Fran Kirby is finding spaces effectively.

Brilliant first half from Austria. They got everything spot-on. They know where Norway's weaknesses are.

Really poor first half from Norway, defensively and going forward they created nothing. They need to get their heads up. It looks like they're playing with so much pressure on their shoulders.

Those world-class players need to step up.

  12. NI 'working off adrenaline'published at 20:50 British Summer Time 15 July 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-2 England

    Gail Redmond
Ex-Northern Ireland international on BBC One

Northern Ireland will have to dig deep. They are probably working off adrenaline quite a bit and they will likely have to make a few changes in the second half.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 15 July 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-2 England

It took England 40 minutes to break the deadlock, but the Lionesses go in at the break in total control of this contest.

The half-time whistle goes. Austria are 45 minutes away from the quarter-finals.

Reading and England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Beth Mead is just thinking I just passed to my team mate and they didn't score so I'm going to do it myself this time.

She chops inside on her weaker foot and puts it in that bottom corner but it's too easy from NI.

They're diving in and selling themselves and turning their back on the ball - it makes Mead's decision easy. It's a bit unlucky with the deflection but they'll be so disappointed with that - they were five minutes away from going into half time at 0-0 but now they're 2-0 down.
