  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 17:14 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    Switzerland 0-0 Netherlands

Great hit and an even better save!

The Swiss come forward and Sandy Maendly shifts the ball onto the left peg outside the area before arrowing a drive towards the top corner, but Netherlands goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar back peddles to tip the ball over the bar.

    Superb stop.

The shape is good when the Dutch have the ball - it's quite strict and you can tell they've worked on it. But they have to move the ball quicker and try and play through Switzerland and create those little overloads.

Good show of steel in Sheffield from Luana Buhler as the Swiss defender catches Jill Roord's thumping strike flush in the face and she hits the deck.

But she wipes her nose and gets straight back up.

The football at this level, technically, is a joy to watch.

  10. 'Sweden are wary of Portugal's threat'published at 17:04 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    Sweden 0-0 Portugal

    Izzy Christiansen
Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Both managers know exactly what either team poses in terms of threats. I think the biggest compliment that Sweden have paid to Portugal in the preparations of this game, in the absence of Caroline Seger in that midfield which comes Nathalie Bjorn from centre-half. It tells me that Sweden are wary of the threat Portugal will pose.

Switzerland have started the brighter and are passing the ball around confidently.

  16. 'It's been hard - Miedema is born to be on the pitch'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    Switzerland v Netherlands (17:00 BST)

    Netherlands

Netherlands boss Mark Parsons speaking to BBC Two:

Having Groenen and Nouwen back in the team: "Very important - they have both played in big games for us and their clubs. Great to have them available and looking forward to them joining the rest of the players. We have lots of strength and depth and we've had to make some difficult choices - but having everyone healthy is the ultimate goal and we are getting closer."

On Miedema: "She's doing okay - she's making steps, singing happy birthday to her from her window is not the way we want to do it but it's been hard because she's not with us and for us this is one of the very best in the world and we want her as a person but also as a player back with our team.

"The biggest role is to make sure she knows we're here for her - she's born to be on the pitch and she can't be and she can't be with the team. We're making sure she's supported and absolutely she's having conversations with our players, she will always be that person who is helping to support them."

On Switzerland game: "A big game - this is a very important one for both teams, they're fighting for their lives and so are we. Both teams trying to improve - we knew from the beginning we wouldn't be the best team coming in but we're trying to improve and trying to be good enough to beat the best teams and today is an important one so we can get to the quarter-finals."

  17. 'Sweden blow Portugal away'published at 16:54 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    Sweden v Portugal (17:00 BST)

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on BBC Two

I think the opening game against the Netherlands, I was impressed. The Netherlands really struggled to deal with the style of play when they play with the wing backs and narrow three centre-forwards. But I expect this team to come and dominate. I can see Sweden blowing Portugal away.

  18. 'We feel really good'published at 16:52 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    Switzerland v Netherlands (17:00 BST)

    Switzerland

Switzerland head coach Nils Nielsen speaking on BBC Two:

"She's [Ramona Bachmann] fine - she ran a lot against Sweden and she basically just had cramp but a bad one so she couldn't play on.

"We feel really good, we have been able to train which is something new for us.

"We had no pitch to begin with and then stomach problems so it's been nice to get out on the pitch. Let's see if it helps, it might be over-rated all that training."

  20. 'A huge mountain to climb'published at 16:47 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    Sweden v Portugal (17:00 BST)

Portugal were not even meant to be at this tournament, only entering as late replacements for Russia.

They came from 2-0 down to draw with Switzerland and then lost 3-2 to the Netherlands.

Boss Francisco Neto said: "We know it is a big step for us. We are going to play the best-ranked team in this tournament but we believe.

"Players dream on being competitive and enjoying all this, but we know that it will be a huge mountain to climb.

"We have the courage and ambition to scale it and they dream of reaching the top of that hill."
