  1. 'England should take direct route'published at 20:24 British Summer Time 20 July 2022

    England 0-0 Spain

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

When England try to press, Spain make sure they have the solutions to cut them open.

I'd like to see England cut out the press and go direct for a few minutes.

Sarina Wiegman has never been overly animated on the touchline but she has been stood on the edge giving the odd instruction and guidance. England have not quite found their shape yet and Spain are looking more dangerous as their rhythm picks up.

    England 0-0 Spain

    Another Spain chance!

Esther Gonzalez holds the ball up in the box and sets up Marta Cardona for a shot that deflects wide.

This crowd just starting to get a bit less certain now. Spain are having the better of it.

England have to stay patient. They can't get frustrated. That Beth Mead foul led to a dangerous chance.

    England 0-0 Spain

Olga has started really well for Spain. She's keeping Beth Mead quiet so far. The latest occasion sees her hold off the winger and stride out after a fine pass from Millie Bright.

    Chance!

In the ball comes and Patricia Guijarro flicks on at the near post. The ball loops past the far upright.

Now Mariona Caldentey is dumped to the turf by a foul from Beth Mead. Spain can threaten from this free-kick, which is wide left.

Every time you play Spain you know you've been in a battle. Little afters, ways they can leave a mark on you.

    England 0-0 Spain

England see off the danger from the corner with Rachel Daly making the final sliding clearance. Proper tussle, this one.

Spain's sharp passing and movement is starting to pat dividends. They have another corner...

    England 0-0 Spain

    Izzy Christiansen
Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

That's why Esther Gonzalez is on the pitch for Spain, she will make unselfish runs in behind, making the centre-backs drop back, a bit like Ellen White for England.

Great feet by Mary Earps. That shot was only about a yard or two yards inside her post. She makes it look easy. Early warning signs for England.

  13. Postpublished at 17 mins

    England 0-0 Spain

Spain fashion another chance, this time for Mariona Caldentey, who receives the ball on the left, cuts inside and fires a swinging shot that Mary Earps is right behind to save.

  14. Postpublished at 20:15 British Summer Time 20 July 2022

    England 0-0 Spain

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport at the Amex Stadium

The crowd are really into this. Every header, tackle or interception won by England is received by a big cheer. Spain look a little hastled when they're pressed. Can England keep the intensity up?

  15. Postpublished at 15 mins

    England 0-0 Spain

Far more direct balls from England, who are again looking for the dynamic, quick runs of their front three.

Spain more patient, probing away at that home defence.

  16. Postpublished at 14 mins

    England 0-0 Spain

Georgia Stanway is penalised for a foul, though. To be fair, she did leave a boot in late on Olga.

  17. Postpublished at 13 mins

    England 0-0 Spain

Boos ring out as Beth Mead goes to ground. It looked like she been tripped near the Spain box. Not according to the referee, though.

  19. 'Kirby being marked out of the game'published at 20:12 British Summer Time 20 July 2022

    England 0-0 Spain

    Izzy Christiansen
Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a fantastic delivery from Beth Mead and I don't think Ellen White was offside, looking at a replay. If that went in it would have gone to VAR because that wasn't offside.

Fran Kirby needs to get in the game, haven't seen much of her. Spain have done well to mark her out of the game so far.

These are two very well-matched sides. For either to win it is going to take some display.
