  2. 'This is a marker for the future'published at 16:44 British Summer Time 31 July 2022

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

England captain Leah Williamson: "What we've seen already is that this hasn't just been a change for women's football, but society in general and how we're looked upon.

"There will be a moment of reflection. It's my job to go out and win but I hope this is the start; this is a marker for the future.

"In most workplaces across the world women still have more battles to face and overcome.

"For every success we make and change of judgement or opening the eyes of people who view women as someone who is equal - that changes society and that is a powerful message.

"These strides we take forward can impact everyone on that wider scale."

  4. 'This will inspire people'published at 16:43 British Summer Time 31 July 2022

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

"Whatever happens in the final, if girls aren't allowed to play football in PE like the boys what are we doing?" asked Ian Wright after England's semi-final win over Sweden.

"This will inspire a lot of people. If there's no legacy after this like with the Olympics what are we doing? Girls should be able to play."

The FA's aim, in its Euro 2022 legacy report, is for 75% of schools to provide equal access for girls to play football within PE lessons by 2024. Only 63% of girls have the same access as boys to football currently.

On the success of the tournament, the FA's head of women's football, Baroness Sue Campbell, said: "I hope it's spreading some really wonderful feelings of hope and happiness to the whole nation.

"Legacy actually starts before a tournament. I think most people think it's something that happens after a tournament, but we've been working on very good legacy plans."

Goalkeeper Karen Bardsley was on the bench last time England reached a major final in Euro 2009, when they lost 6-2 to Germany.

She said: "I don't think people realise the impact this is going to have on the women's game in this country. In five or 10 years' time, this is going to become the norm."

Former Germany international Josephine Henning on BBC One: "This is the biggest stage we have. Everything is next level. Everyone feels they are part of this. This is the special one because everything went up to the next level."

Former Germany international Tabea Kemme on BBC One: "This is going to be a magical night. The best part of both teams is the team spirit."

England are the favourites to win the Euro 2022 final against Germany with the latest estimates giving the Lionesses 52% chance of lifting the trophy.England's favouritism is due to home advantage. If the Euro 2022 final was being played on neutral ground, Germany would have 55% chance of winning according to Gracenote's analysis.

    Kelly Smith

When we lost 6-2 to Germany in the 2009 European Women's Championship final, they were a powerhouse in women's football.

Germany, alongside the USA, were the most feared teams in the world.

You knew you'd be in for a tough battle against Germany because of who the players were at the time - they had superstars.

At the back of our minds, we knew we would lose a couple of percent already because we had lost 18 games in a row to them - and had never won. They were just so dominant in that era.

You always prepare to win and you hope you have the game of your life as a team and as an individual - but at that time, there was always a fear the Germans were too good. You could give it everything, but it was never going to be enough.

They had a really good youth system that fed up to the senior squad. They had better players, better coaches and better fitness levels because of where the game was in Germany at that time. You always felt they were better prepared.

Before the 2009 final we were out trying to do extra runs on the park. I tied my dog to the post so they wouldn't run away from me.

We were in the game for 60 minutes but Germany were professional and hit another gear.

Seeing the game develop, there's no fear of Germany.

Players have to take messages on board and relay them onto the pitch, but the idea has to be right.

Create the right atmosphere in the work place, make people want to be there. But make it challenging; make it difficult. The best players want to be challenged and Sarina Wiegman has got that balance.

  10. The tactical battlepublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 31 July 2022

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

So where are the key battles going to be in this final?

We've touched on one of the key aspects, which is how Millie Bright can cope with Alexandra Popp? If the England centre-back, who pretty much hasn't lost a header all tournament, can shackle the tournament's joint top-scorer, it will go a long way to nullifying the Germans.

Svenja Huth is the other big attacking threat for Germany. She will look to get at Lucy Bronze and try to exploit any space left in behind in transition.

At the other end, Lauren Hemp and Beth Mead will be encouraged by the problems the direct and quick French wide players caused German full-backs Giulia Gwinn and Felicitas Rauch.

The other big clash comes in midfield between Keira Walsh and Lena Oberdorf. An irresistible force versus and immoveable object.

You sense also that those England subs will have a role to play.

Germany manager Martina Voss-Tecklenburg: "In the beginning, Wembley will be English and I hope it will belong to us at the end," said the Germany manager.

"We want to play our game, be courageous, aggressive, give it our all, play as a team. This has worked well so far."

On facing England: "It electrifies football fans. It has such a traditional history. I don't differentiate between men and women. It's a football feast.

"If we were allowed to dream, we would've chosen to play against England in this final, not anyone else."

  12. Popp is all smilespublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 31 July 2022

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

The German team certainly seem relaxed ahead of this final. Why wouldn't they be? They're most people's underdogs, but have a wealth of advisers and former players who have been here before. It's a recipe for the pressure being off.

German captain Alexandra Popp was so chilled out going in to her press conference, she found time to play some japes, wearing a fake moustache in reaction to comments made in the media that she could play for the German men's national side...

Germany are used to being in finals but the magnitude of today - which is expected to be played in front of the biggest crowd in a men's or women's Euros - was felt earlier this week.

Captain Svenja Huth sat down to speak to the media on Saturday and she was so blown away by the sight of a packed room at Wembley, she had to take out her phone to grab a picture.

    I hope I'm in it!

Goalscoring is just one part of her game. She has almost equally as many assists. She's contributing. I know I'm biased but she's playing on the wing and not centre forward.

    England

Sarina Wiegman has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I'm really, really proud of the team, their focus and their togetherness. We have one goal, performing at the highest level that we can. Those are not just words, but actions too. We've shown resilience and we want to win together. We've had setbacks, in the Spain game and a couple in the Sweden game, but we really turned it around. There is so much belief and trust in this team; I'm proud of that.

"I've never underestimated Germany; they've always been really good. We are busy with the game and we want to win it; we've talked about how we can and what we need to do. After that, we look further; we won't talk about anything else before the end of the game."

I honest believe when we were in it [the Euros final] in 2009 or the last 13 years if we were to win a tournament it wouldn't have had the same impact this has had. To do it how they've done it in front of a home crowd, that's the impact.

I met Gracie, 6, who is off to her first live football match today. Not a bad one to kick things off is it?

She has just started playing for her local club in Oxfordshire and has already decided she wants to be a goalkeeper.

Her favourite England player? Mary Earps.

She has made some banners to hold up including one with her hand prints on.

And to complete her match day experience, mum and dad even managed to find her an England shirt with reference to 1966 on the back.

We all know how it ended that year for England...

It is the best 11 to start a game, is it the best 11 to finish a game? We've seen the impact Alessia Russo and Ella Toone have made from the bench. It isn't about 11, it is about 23. The players who haven't played as much; their role has been just as integral as the players who have started every game.
