  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Brentford are enjoying a spell of possession but they're not getting very far. Eventually it's played back to Alvaro Fernandez.

Moments later Son Heung-min forces a fine save from the Brentford keeper who dives full stretch to steer it away.

You have to get up with the times and get up to speed. I think Manchester United are a long way away. If you have everything built to be successful off the pitch, that flows on to the pitch. It enables them to get the players they want that fit the system. Too many players sign for Manchester United and you think 'this player is going to be unbelievable'. Within two years they have left because they don't fit Manchester United's ideals. There is no set identity from top to bottom. It is not a quick fix.

Brentford have got the edge over Tottenham in the air so it is really disappointing when they hit the first man. That drives me mad as a striker.

About 15 minutes of the first half left. It's not been a classic but Spurs fans are in fine voice and their team have their noses in front.

Antonio Conte is not satisfied. He's shouting orders from his technical box and demanding more from his players.

First time Brentford's travelling fans have made their voices heard. The Bees win a corner and it eventually leads to a chance for Bryan Mbeumo, who attempts a spectacular volley from outside the box.

It's wide but that wasn't a bad effort.

This Arsenal back four has a really good understanding. In Tomiyasu you have someone who can go forward but is happy to come inside and be that third centre-back. That gives Nuno Tavares the licence to go forward whenever he wants to. Saka on the right give more width, with Smith Rowe on the other side driving inside.

  8. 'Spurs the better side'published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Tottenham are the better side. There is much more impetus in their play and more threat in their forward play.

So far Brentford, after a comfortable opening five minutes, haven't really done much with possession or even getting in the Spurs half.

  9. Dyche's pint with Rangnickpublished at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2021

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has revealed he spent a few hours "chewing the fat" with new Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick at a sport leaders conference a few years ago.

"I once had a beer with him and we had a really good chat about football and its challenges," Dyche said.

"I haven't really looked at his own individual work but he's done good work for sure. I'm sure he comes to the Premier League with a base that he wants to work from.

"He'll get a feel for his team and see how that works out.

"He's well travelled enough to know he needs to find out all about his staff and that there will be a crossover between what he thinks will work and what actually will work."

    Danny Higginbotham
Former Manchester United defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Cristiano Ronaldo has never been able to press. When I played against him during his first spell at Manchester United, if you got past him, which wasn't very often, he wasn't tracking you back. This isn't something that has just come into Ronaldo's game - he has never been able to press. He is all about right place at the right time and important goals.

Thomas Frank said before the game that his side needed to be brave on the ball. Brentford started on the front foot but have gone into their shell since conceding. They have yet to have a shot and Hugo Lloris has had little to do.

  13. Darren Fletcher heavily involvedpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2021

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Although he had a quick jog over to his former team-mate Patrice Evra, who is pitch-side in his role as a TV analyst this evening, Darren Fletcher is keeping a close eye on the pre-match warm-up.

Fletcher is United's technical director and has been involved, along with football director John Murtough, in the discussions that have brought Ralf Rangnick to Old Trafford.

It had been felt Fletcher would be the interim boss, rather than Michael Carrick.

That did not prove to be the case but the Scot is clearly heavily involved in events at Old Trafford now.

It is an interesting Manchester United team. To bring Cristiano Ronaldo back is absolutely vital - a lot of people have spoke about him but he is a goalscorer.

It should be a fascinating game. It is a huge game for Harry Maguire coming back in too.

Great chance for Spurs to extend their lead as Harry Kane plays a sweeping pass to Emerson out wide.

Son Heung-min is unmarked in the box but it's a poor attempt at a pass by Emerson.

    Chance wasted.

  16. Thank you Ole - Carrickpublished at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2021

    Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Michael Carrick has started his first - and possibly only - Manchester United programme notes by thanking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"I'd like to thank him for the work he did during his time as manager and the support and guidance he gave us as his backroom team," said Carrick.

"Results this season have not been what we were looking for but when we look back at Ole's time in charge we built a team that came very close to success and did a lot of great work behind scenes that will benefit club for years to come."

  17. Gunners have the recent edgepublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2021

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

Manchester United could go seven Premier League games without beating Arsenal for the first time in their history.

Arsenal can win consecutive league games at Old Trafford for the first time since February 1979.

The Gunners could set a new club record by keeping a fourth consecutive clean sheet in this fixture.

Arsenal's past six league away wins versus Manchester United were all by a 1-0 scoreline.

  20. Ronaldo pressing suggestions 'maybe a myth'published at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2021

The Football News Show: How will Ralf Rangnick handle Cristiano Ronaldo?

United caretaker Michael Carrick says it is "maybe a myth" that Cristiano Ronaldo is unwilling to press opponents.

There are suggestions Ronaldo may not fit into Ralf Rangnick's high-pressing style of play.

According to Statsbomb data on FBREF,, external Ronaldo has done less pressing (per 90 minutes) than any forward to play for more than three minutes in the Premier League this season.

"He's played in enough teams over the years and been successful to play in a variety of ways," Carrick said.

"Players adapt anyway. You've got to have skills for different styles."

Asked specifically about the perception Ronaldo might be unwilling to press opponents, Carrick said: "Maybe it is a myth."
