Ralf Rangnick is sitting next to Manchester United's football director John Murtough in the directors' box.

Murtough led the negotiations to bring Rangnick to Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's successor.

We will get to hear what Rangnick makes of this when he does his first media conference at Old Trafford tomorrow morning at 9am.

Today was a huge call. Harry Maguire has not been in great form. Bailly and Lindelof did well. Rangnick demands that the team play high. If Varane is there that is fine for Maguire. He gives him the assurance as he can cover balls over the top. He is club captain but you find when a new manager comes in they have no problem dropping a high-profile player.

I liked what stand-in Manchester United boss Michael Carrick did against Chelsea on Sunday, with Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay screening the defence and the whole team working extremely hard.

United still don't look right at the back but a point at Stamford Bridge was a step in the right direction and, if Aaron Wan-Bissaka hadn't had a rush of blood, they might have taken away all three.

The Gunners got back to winning ways against Newcastle, and created loads of chances in that game, but United playing at home in front of their new manager will have something to prove.

I wondered when I saw the Brentford keeper go down if he was trying to buy his side a little bit of time, but it hit him straight in the face.

Let me tell you, on a cold winter night, that is not nice.

This is 100% better than last week's nightmare against Mura. Spurs are making noises on the pitch but it's not heavy metal.

It is interesting to watch Tottenham's team shape and tactics. When Brentford have possession around the back Spurs are happy to let them have it.

It is only early in Antonio Conte's Spurs reign but they are becoming much more difficult to play through.

For a good few years this fixture was the top two teams in England scrapping it out (often literally) for the title.

Now it's the team 10th against the team fifth. No titles between them since 2013. United are 15 points behind leaders Chelsea.
