    • Leeds have lost just one of their past 14 home league games against Brentford (W7 D6), going down 1-0 in the Championship in February 2015.
    • This is the first top-flight meeting between Leeds and Brentford since April 1947, with the Bees winning 2-1 at Elland Road. Both sides were relegated at the end of the that campaign.
    • Brentford haven’t conceded more than once in any of their 14 league meetings with Leeds in the 21st century (9 conceded in total), last doing so in a 4-0 defeat in March 1954.Brentford are unbeaten in their past six away league games against Yorkshire sides (W4 D2), last having a longer run without defeat in the county between 2007 and 2011 (8 games).

In February 2020 in the Championship, there were blunders from both goalkeepers as the sides drew 1-1.

A big mistake from Kiko Casilla, letting a routine pass back from captain Liam Cooper roll under his foot, allowed Said Benrahma to open the scoring with a tap-in for the Londoners.

Another goalkeeping error allowed Cooper to stab home an equaliser, the ball falling at the defender's feet after David Raya failed to deal with a corner.

Helder Costa wasted Leeds' best chance to win it after the break, firing weakly into the grasp of Raya after getting onto a deflected cross from Mateusz Klich, meaning the visitors had to settle for a draw.

  3. Bielsa is one of the greatest - Frankpublished at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Leeds v Brentford (14:00 GMT)

Thomas Frank says he has been inspired by Marcelo Bielsa throughout his coaching career as the two managers prepare to meet again.

Brentford travel to Leeds on Sunday and Frank says it is always an honour to go head-to-head with the Argentine.

"For me, Bielsa is the big inspiration. He's been that for my whole coaching career," he said.

"The first time I really looked into it was in 2007-08 when he was the head coach for Chile, and they had exactly the same style as they have now at Leeds, and he was a big inspiration.

"I tried to incorporate some of the principles to my under-16s national team - poor lads, because they just had to run a lot.

"It was for me a personal big moment when I faced him in a game because he's one of the greatest in terms of developing football.

"When he said to me before a game that we were a team that was well set up offensively and defensively, that my players knew what they had to do - he could see that - that meant a lot to me."

Man Utd v Crystal Palace (14:00 GMT)

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, speaking to BBC MOTD:

"Last week against Leeds we did some interesting things, we have to keep this going.

"Christian Benteke is a really good target up front, he’s strong enough to hold up the ball. He’s scoring goals, that's good for us. I still want him to score even more goals.

"I think it’s a tough place to come and perform because of the atmosphere and quality of the team.

"We know there’s been a lot of talk in the last few days but we have to do the talking ourselves as a team. Do what we can do to get the result."

Mark Lawrenson takes on singer-songwriter and Liverpool fan Jamie Webster for the latest round of Premier League predictions.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Ralf Rangnick takes charge of Manchester United for the first time on Sunday and I'm definitely expecting a reaction from their players.

There has already been an improvement in United's performances since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure, which is understandable - everyone is already playing for their place and even the ones who were out of the team think they might have a chance because all the players start afresh.

I think that improvement from United will continue. Crystal Palace will be trying to spoil the party at Old Trafford but they are another team who have had a bit of a blip since the international break and seem to have lost their momentum.

    Jamie's prediction: 3-1

Back in March, these two sides played out a goalless draw at Selhurst Park in a game of little quality.

The Red Devils never really looked like scoring in a drab encounter, which left then boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying his side needed to rediscover their "spark".

The visitors dominated possession but struggled to create many meaningful chances, with Nemanja Matic going closest in the first half when he forced Vicente Guaita into a decent save.

Palace did not manage a shot on target until early in the second half when Jordan Ayew fired straight at keeper Dean Henderson after a good one-two with Christian Benteke.

However, the hosts almost pinched it right at the end when Patrick van Aanholt was put in on goal, but he was denied by Henderson.

    • Manchester United failed to win either of their league meetings with Crystal Palace last season (D1 L1). They’ve not gone three without a win against the Eagles since a run of four between 1925 and 1970.
    • Crystal Palace have taken seven points from their past four league meetings with Manchester United (W2 D1 L1), as many as they’d managed in their previous 23 against them (W1 D4 L18).
    • Crystal Palace have already won 2-0 away against Manchester City in the Premier League this season – the last London side to win away at both Manchester clubs (City & United) in the same top-flight campaign was Arsenal in 1990-91.

Ralf Rangnick follows David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in becoming the fifth Manchester United manager in the eight-and-a-half years since Sir Alex Ferguson left.

United only had seven managers in 68 years from 1945, although Sir Matt Busby did do two years at the helm.

[On managing Manchester United at Old Trafford] "For me it’s the same as the players, it’s a unique support we get.

"Last match, even in the first half when we struggled the fans supported the team. In front of 75,000 we feel their support, it’s like a one-two."

It is no surprise Ralf Rangnick's stuck with the same Manchester United team that he saw beat Arsenal on Sunday.

Rangnick said in his press conference on Friday that he would have difficulty in making major changes in the short space of time he has been in charge.

Neither Friday not Saturday were full-on training sessions, so altering a winning team would not have made much sense.

  17. 'I'm sure Ronaldo will be on board with Rangnick's style'published at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

Man Utd v Crystal Palace (14:00 GMT)

Former Premier League goalkeeper Robert Green has paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo's "professionalism" after the Manchester United striker became the first person to reach 800 top-flight goals.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast, Green said: "He gets every ounce of his ability out onto the pitch and it's testament to his professionalism that he just keeps going.

"Give him enough chances, he scores goals, important goals as well."

Green also suggested that new interim boss Ralf Rangnick is not obliged to play Ronaldo despite his remarkable goalscoring record.

"Rangnick will have his way and if you come away with results then it doesn't matter," he said.

"It's been said that Ronaldo doesn't press or whatever, but I'm sure he'll be saying, 'Look at the run I made for the length of the pitch to get into the area for the goal'.

"Ronaldo is fit, he can run around. The two of them will sit down and talk about Rangnick's plan - and I'm sure Ronaldo will be on board."

Ralf Rangnick is clearly a football scholar, and was comfortable talking about the history of Manchester United, his own experiences watching English football in the late 70s and early 80s and how his task is to improve the balance of the team.

He was funny - when he joked about the sums he will receive for signing the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Robert Lewandowski and Joshua Kimmich. And when he was asked if he is due a bonus if he helps United sign Erling Braut Haaland, he described it as "nonsense".

He even suggested he may look to recommend himself for the manager's role at the end of the season if the board want his opinion.

United fans will be most pleased to hear him talk about getting more from the players, and why Cristiano Ronaldo can be a big part of his plans.

"We play in the most competitive league in the world so we need all the players on board," he said. "What I saw from Cristiano yesterday, he is more than willing to do that, to put his input into the team. His team-mates will have to do the same."

  19. Time is of the essence for Rangnickpublished at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

Man Utd v Crystal Palace (14:00 GMT)

Ralf Rangnick started his first news conference as interim Manchester United manager by revealing it was the earliest such briefing he had ever attended.

He then spent the next half an hour offering a revealing insight into the type of character United are hoping will guide them through to the end of the season in some sort of order after the chaos of the last couple of months.

Evidently, Rangnick is big on time. He knew how long he had spoken to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Joel Glazer for. He knew how long he had spoken to the Red Bull chiefs when he became their sporting director.

He also knows he doesn’t have much time to impose his philosophy on Old Trafford given the season is in its most congested phase, with no German-style winter break looming to impart his ideas.

But implement it he must. With Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool as far clear of United as Rangnick’s new club are of the relegation zone, something at Old Trafford must change if they are to stand a chance of competing for the biggest prizes again.

“There have been five changes of manager since Sir Alex left – so it was difficult for the club to gain continuity in regard to signing new players and sticking to the DNA of the club,” said Rangnick.

“I think this is vital in modern football that you do that.

“For me it is not that unusual that there were so many changes and I think the board members and myself have the same opinion that for the future it’s important we develop in the future and there will not be that many changes in management.”
