  2. 'Gallagher will give everything'published at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-1 Everton

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira speaking to BBC Sport: "We started quite well. In the first half in particular we played some really good football. In the second half it was a little more difficult for us. We lack some maturity. When we concede the goal it was challenging for us but the team stuck together. They pulled their sleeves up and we accepted the fight. That game will give us confidence for the rest of the season."

On Conor Gallagher: "Especially [to score his second goal] at 90 minutes when you look at the distances covered and the energy levels, to do that at the end of a game is special. He is being rewarded by his work ethic. When he is on the field he will give you everything - and he can score goals. He was good for the team today. It's a credit to his dedication. What he needed was to play games and this football club will give him that chance. He has a lot to improve but he is doing really well for us."

On concerns over coronavirus: "Yes of course I'm worried. I think we are all worried. The support that we had, without [the supporters] in the stadium the atmosphere would be different. It's not the same game without the fans."

    Crystal Palace 3-1 Everton

  4. 'Another mistake'published at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton manager Rafael Benitez to BBC Sport: "We were dangerous on the counter. After a mistake we conceded a goal then it's more difficult to change things. We conceded another goal, another mistake.

"When we scored we had a couple of chances and didn't take them. We made another mistake and conceded another goal. It's something we need to learn."

"With VAR, it's happening to us two or three times, crucial decisions not in our favour. Something could be more fair for us to get something.

"We were there, we were pushing. We had a couple of chances. It's a pity. The team were fighting. With more accuracy in the final third, the team is working hard. The reaction was there today."

On fans not being happy at Richarlison being replaced: "It's impossible to explain very situation. Allan was working so hard at the end of the game a few days ago with a problem, he couldn't be here.

"Richarlison has a problem with his calf. We knew and were trying to protect him at half-time. He wanted to try to carry on. Without Dominic Calvert-Lewin we cannot take this risk [of Richarlison aggravating his problem]. We put a player who was fresh on. He knew, we knew he wasn't fully fit.

"It wasn't helping with the arms [Richarlison looking annoyed]. I said we could change him at half-time and nothing would happen. He wasn't doing too much in the second half."

  5. 'We knew Richarlison has an injury'published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton manager Rafael Benitez speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a strange game. They started well and then we adjusted our positions and got more control, but when we had control they scored. At the start of the second half another mistake from a corner, and another mistake at the end and you concede. You cannot do that in the Premier League.

"I would say coming here we knew they would try to play and be offensive. As soon as we changed the shape we had the control. We had the chances at 2-1 and we were there."

On the reaction from the Everton supporters when he brought Richarlison off: "I can't explain everything. Allan was not here because he had a little injury and Richarlison has a problem with his calf. At half time we didn't do it but we did not want him to get injured and he was not affecting the game. You cannot explain that all the time when the people are disappointed. The player was not helping, we knew at half time we had to give him five minutes. We knew at half time we maybe need to make the substitution and he asked for five minutes to see what was going on.

"We know what we did and we know how we needed to change the shape of the team. Little by little we were in control. We were pushing at 2-1 and had the chances and I saw the team was getting something."

  6. 'Gallagher a fantastic player to have'published at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-1 Everton

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira to Sky Sports on Conor Gallagher: "There's still a lot to come from him. He'll need to manage his strength and find out the best way to manager his energy. He's a fantastic player to have. He give everything to the team and he can score goals. To have a midfielder who can score 10-15 goals is important.

"We don't think about what will happen in the future. We have him for a year and we are pleased to work with him. It's a win-win. We'll see what happens at the end of the season.

"What's extraordinary we were talking about the 90th minute he's been running all over, to find the energy to score that goal took a lot."

  7. 'This is a really special football club'published at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-1 Everton

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira to Sky Sports: "It was a really good team performance. We were under pressure for periods and we stuck together.

"To win a game we needed to win took a lot of personality and courage. The players work well and really hard.

"We need to improve. When you're playing well and 2-0 up you have to learn to manage the game. This is a step forward. During 90 minutes you'll go through a difficult perioud. It's about how to manage that.

"This is how we will improve as a team.

"The atmosphere here is really special. We felt the support from the fans. This is a really special football club. The fans make it special."

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton defender Ben Godfrey speaking to Sky Sports: "We had a great result Monday and we were coming here with confidence. We're gutted we didn't get anything from the game.

"We know the standards we set for ourselves and that might have been below par. We have to dust ourselves down and go again. The lads are disappointed.

"We're not happy about any of the goals. We always believe we can keep them out but it's something we need to learn from quickly or we'll be punished again.

"We started slow and we shouldn't need that wake up call, that second chance to get going. We shot ourselves in the foot but that's football sometimes and we have to learn fast."

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-1 Everton

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace midfielder Conor Gallagher speaking to Sky Sports: "Definitely the perfect way [to settle it] I feel it was a fantastic performance from us. Conceding made it a nervy last 20 minutes.

"This game was massive for us. We have lost the last three so to get the three points was important. It feels unreal. I feel we've been unlucky in the last few games. We wanted to give the fans a good performance and we did."

On his goals: "I felt we pressed well. Jordan [Ayew] gave me a great pass. The last one, that feeling is incredible. I won the ball back, Christian [Benteke] was telling me to leave it but there was no chance I was leaving it.

"I love it [at Crystal Palace]. Hearing them sing my name is a great feeling for me and gives me confidence which is amazing for a player. Hopefully I can continue to impress them. I always give my all and I try to affect the game as much as I can."

It was a good performance from Crystal Palace. Everton had a right go in the second half and Salomon Rondon came on and caused problems but in the end Conor Gallagher was the difference, he was outstanding.
