  4. 'I don't expect Southgate to speak to me'published at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Burnley 0-0 West Ham

    Burnley

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope for Sky: "It was one of those games really, a bit ugly from both sides, it looked for a long time like anyone could win it, we just unfortunately couldn't get that, but I’m happy with the clean sheet, we haven’t had too many so it’s definitely something to build on.

"West Ham are a good team, they’ve improved a lot, European team, we played against them twice last year and they were both really tough games. Defensively today we looked good.

"I’m disappointed with how many [clean sheets] so far this season but the only way to put that right is to put some more on the board."

Were you aware England manager Gareth Southgate was watching?

"No, you never know. There’s always people watching. It’s a long time until the next international break, it’s about putting points on the board and getting clean sheets to help the team."

Have you spoken to Southgate about a call-up?

"I don’t think he can speak to every English player on the planet so, not expected to but at the same time I’m happy to concentrate on myself. I love playing for this club with these lads. We’re really good together. I’ve got stuff to think about."

  10. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

It's pretty much all Palace so far. Conor Gallagher gets the ball 20 yards out, drifts across the pitch and then hammers a left-footed shot over the bar.

    Two more chances.

Jordan Ayew's cross flies just past Odsonne Edouard - who maybe should throw himself at it - and then Wilfred Zaha blasts a shot in from a tight angle which Jordan Pickford palms away.

  11. Fixtures schedule is 'so tough'published at 16:39 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Burnley 0-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

More from West Ham boss David Moyes for MOTD: "The games at the minute in the Premier League are so tough, couple with cup games and the European games that we’ve had, it does make it difficult. There’s been a big load of injuries, I don’t know if it’s because of the Euros in the summer and players coming back.

"It’s been tougher for players – and for managers and coaches – to prepare nearly every three days for a game.

"In days gone by yes the football would have been played every three days, we’re well aware of that, I was probably one of the players who played like that and quite enjoyed it, but the way the game’s changed now, it’s much harder turning players around and get them back out again quickly two or three days later on."

Manchester United have notified the Premier League after a number of players and staff tested positive for coronavirus.

United are due to play a league game at Brentford on Tuesday. The status of that match is unclear at present.

The United squad that travelled to Norwich for yesterday’s 1-0 win had all tested negative.

However, there has since been some positive lateral flow tests within the United camp. Those involved were sent home before training today and will now have PCR tests.

The rest of the group trained outdoors and the session was adjusted to individual and non-contact.

  16. 'Some players need to play better'published at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Burnley 0-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes for MOTD: "There is [disappointment] because we had plenty of opportunities to try and get a goal, but Burnley make it difficult for you, they don’t concede many.

"We just didn’t have the quality in the final third that we needed today. We got in quite a few times but we couldn't get a goal.

"You need to try and make sure you’re able to deal with a lot of what Burnley do. We played very well here last year and we were hoping we could do the same.

"There were signs that our football was good. We just couldn’t quite get the final bit, that last cross, which obviously made the difference."

On his side's confidence: "They’re in really good spirits because we’re in a good position, but once you set high standards, which a lot of them have, and they’ve seen the levels they can get to, I think some of them are playing below it. Some of them need to get back up to the high standards if they’re going to remain in this position.

"I’d rather tell them that than not, there’s no point in me pussy-footing around it and not saying it. I want to win, I want us to play a better and a few of them can certainly do that."

  20. Maddison 'excellent' - but Evans injury 'not good'published at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    FT: Leicester 4-0 Newcastle

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm pleased to come off a tough week, a European game, and get a clean sheet and score four goals. Our attacking play has been good but we needed to tighten up in defence."

On losing Jonny Evans to injury early on: "It's been our season really, we've suffered with injuries and it's been a huge challenge for us. It's been a great effort from the players. We don't have the depth in Europe, especially with so many injuries, but with that quality [today] we always have the chance to win games."

On the penalty: "We set the trap, pressed the game and the referee calls it well for me. That's a reward for being brave and having courage to press the game. I felt there was contact and there is contact. We get that little bit of luck maybe."

On James Maddison: "He was excellent. You see his quality, his composure and how unselfish he was. The pass to Youri [Tielemans] is a great pass. His ability to take the ball too. You also have to align that with hard work and he worked hard for the team. But I'm so pleased for the collective.

"Our identity is always clear. We want to attack the game and play football. If we can get over this moment and get players back it will give us a depth and hopefully that allows us to find some consistency."

On scoring four goals with top scorer Jamie Vardy on the bench: "It's important to share [the goals] about. Jamie is an amazing player for us and he understands where he's at. He'll be fit and ready and fresh for Thursday."

On the seriousness of centre-back Evans' injury: "Not good. We think it's his hamstring but we'll get more on that tomorrow. It's such a shame because he's such a fantastic player."
