Ben Johnson is proving a useful attacking outlet for West Ham. He charges down the left and crosses and it needs a sliding Palace defender to divert the ball harmlessly back to Vicente Guiata.

Jordan Ayew is clattered by Issa Diop as Palace look to break. It is a free-kick, nothing more.

Watford

Watford boss Claudio Ranieri, speaking to Match of the Day: "I am very proud, also our fans should be proud because the team played a fight until the end. The first half wasn't so good when we wanted to counter attack, we missed too many passes, the second half we created two or three chances.

"I never thought we would concede a goal with a header, with all my tall players, we closed all the space, they have to cross and my players can take the ball. What a pity, that is football and we continue to fight. We are alive and we will survive.

"The match against West Ham I trained one day in 15 days all together, that was very difficult to create the atmosphere and feeling, today they wanted to react and the match is a positive. Only the result is a negative."

On Emmanuel Dennis being taken off at half-time: "He had a little problem, then I saw him a little nervous, so I prefer to change him and Joao Pedro played very well. The striker sends an effort on target but Vicente Guaita is there to block. The Palace keeper is then able to thrust up a strong hand to stop Said Benrahma's follow-up finding the net.

West Ham finally see a bit of the ball and fashion a couple of chances from it.

Ben Johnson is freed down the left for a cross that Jarrod Bowen meets and sees a shot blocked. Vladimar Coufal follows up but hammers an effort way over the bar.

Watford

Watford boss Claudio Ranieri to Sky Sports: "What a pity! My players made everything to try to win or to not concede a goal. We know we wanted Tottenham to have more space to play and we closed it all behind us. The second half was much better in the counter-attack. We had a good moment with Joao Pedro and with Joshua King. That's it.

"I always respect the decision of the refrees. I accept every time. The match is finished. For me it is OK.

"Of course I wanted to create more but in front there was a big Tottenham. In the second half we played much better on the counter-attack than in the first half. We missed a lot of passes in the first half."

"I think we are proud of my team. I am sure that the fans should be proud of the match today. Now we are thinking about everything."

Again the delivery is swung to the near post but Tomas Soucek is the man heading away.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte on Match of the Day: "The performance was positive because from the start until the end we controlled the game and when you have this type of game it is very important to score, because then your opponent has to change and you can find more space.

"We were very good to attack, to create chances, but in this game when you attack, attack and don't score, sometimes you can lose the game on the counter attack.

"We have to improve the last pass, in the first half it was 29 crosses and 0 goals, it is important for us to imrprove the quality in the last pass because that gives you the possibility to score.

"To play so many games in a few days is not easy, this was the fifth game in 13 days and if you think we played almost with the same players, this period is busy but at the same time we try to get a result because it is very important, three points is very important.

"You can dominate the game, control the game, but then you move the ball and when we arrive and there is the opportunity to do the last pass, this pass means that you can score. We need to improve the quality in this situation, we have space for improvement, the players have to improve also in this situation."
