A West Ham head is first to the ball but only to concede another corner.

Will Hughes drives the second delivery to the near post but again it is the away side who head away.

Bobby Seagull: As a West Ham fan, we might be 3-0 up at half time. But experience of supporting the club has taught me that we can't take anything for granted. A fourth goal (for the claret and blues) would put my mind at ease. Until then, I'll remain slightly on edge.

Do Palace have any fight in them to stage a comeback? Or is this just going to be a procession to three Hammers points?

The most shocking thing about that penalty incident is Darren England looking right at it and giving absolutely nothing, not even a free kick on the edge of the box. VAR is encouraging refs to shirk their responsibility to run the game.

Moyes clinched the win with 18% of the total votes, followed closely by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea's Thomas Tuchel.

  9. Two entries for the Hammers in Garth's team of the yearpublished at 18:34 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2022

Crystal Palace v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

After a sixth-place finish to get them into Europe and a consistency that has carried over into the 2021-22 season, two West Ham players feature in Garth Crooks' team of the year.

Declan Rice: The way this lad has been playing he's destined for a bigger club. For such a young man he runs the midfield for West Ham quite brilliantly and he has been the perfect replacement for Mark Noble as captain.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was also the first selection on Gareth Southgate's teamsheet.

Michail Antonio: He may have gone off the boil recently, but it's hardly surprising the amount of energy he puts into a game. Watching him lift a life-size cardboard cut-out of himself earlier this season, having equalled Paolo di Canio's goalscoring record at West Ham, said it all really.

The Jamaica international terrorises defences and has continued to add to his goalscoring tally this season.

Beth: I think if in doubt, give it to the attacker. Otherwise VAR is taking the sting out the game. It’s the same with offsides. The technology isn’t there to be so precise.

Only two players have scored a hat-trick for West Ham in a Premier League away match: Paul Kitson in a 4-4 draw at Charlton Athletic on 19 November 2001 and Michail Antonio in a 4-0 win at Norwich on 11 July 2020 (Antonio netted all four).

I'm sorry, why is the ref going to the screen on a handball? It is or it isn't. VAR becoming more inconsistent by the day.

If Palace want to cling to something, there is always this...

Palace have won two Premier League matches they trailed by at least two goals in (both in away games). The second of those was a 3-2 victory at David Moyes's Sunderland on 24 September 2016 (94th-minute winner by Christian Benteke).

This is the first time West Ham have led a Premier League away match at half-time by a margin of as many as three goals.

It is only the third time the Hammers have scored as many as three goals in the first half of a Premier League away game, after a 3-1 win at Blackpool on 2 February 2011 (3-1 at half-time) and a 3-2 victory at Wolves on 5 April 2021 (3-1 at half-time).

Unless the little clubs score when they're on top they get done. Happened to Brentford recently and Watford and Arsenal today. It's now happening to Palace.

Odd game, this. Entertaining, but odd.

It's not a nonsensical argument to suggest Palace have been the better side. They've had more efforts at goal and hit the woodwork twice.

But West Ham are just ruthless. At both ends. Two goals in three minutes whipped Palace into the ropes and then planted a jaw to the chin. That penalty late in the half was the big dropped knee.

The next 45 minutes could well be the visitors cupping their ear and flexing to all four sides of the ground in celebration.
