A little too much power on it. Ronaldo looks up to the heavens and just needed a couple of inches on the leap.

Another Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross goes just over Cristiano Ronaldo after Jose Sa couldn't reach it. Better from United though.

As a man who has tried to handle a baked potato straight from the oven, I can certainly understand that analogy.

It is all Wolves. Manchester United just can't get a hold of the ball. It is a hot potato.

  8. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

Wolves have had the ball for practically 90 seconds solid - and it almost results in a goal.

Daniel Podence might be offside actually as he runs in behind Phil Jones, cuts inside and has a shot saved.

  9. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

United don't even have a striker in the box as Luke Shaw whips in an early cross from the left.

United have only had two efforts, both blocked, to Wolves' eight.

Robin: Neves should have been signed by @ManUtd, external years ago. Completely outplaying both of our midfielders, passing around and through them. All this hype after Burnley was all delusional. 2 holding midfielders need to be signed asap

  11. Wolves controlling the gamepublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has been asking his side to control matches.

They are miles off that here. With the extra man in midfield, it is the visitors who are dominating.

United are giving the ball away cheaply far too often.

  12. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

Aaron Wan-Bissaka puts in a cross so high that not even Cristiano Ronaldo - doing one of those trademark leaps - can reach it.

  13. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

Wolves should probably be ahead by now. Nelson Semedo barges into the box and forces another save from David de Gea with a stinging effort.

  14. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

Daniel Podence has been very lively. After a good run down the right he finds Ruben Neves, but this time the Wolves midfielder's long-range shot sails well over.

  15. 'Good attacking football from Wolves'published at 17:48 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Rob Green
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

This is really good attacking flowing football from Wolves. The only thing missing is that final run into the box. They've had two or three opportunities already, they just need to get the bodies in there.

  16. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

Phil Jones holds up his hands in apology as he misplaces a pass with United trying to break from a corner. That's his first unsuccessful pass in almost two years.

  17. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

A very ambitious one-two between Francisco Trincao and Daniel Podence needs Aaron Wan-Bissaka to cut out the return pass. Corner.

  18. 'Good 10 mins from Jones'published at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

    Rob Green
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Phil Jones tracking back. He will be breathing right now - the pace of the game is not like training. He did just about enough there and it has been a good opening 10 minutes for him.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 13 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Wolves

All Wolves. Daniel Podence runs onto Raul Jimenez's through ball - Aaron Wan-Bissaka is nowhere to be seen. Podence races into the box and has a shot palmed away by David de Gea.

The corner is half-cleared and and Ruben Neves takes a touch and sends a half-volley towards the top corner from outside the box and De Gea tips it over.

    Brilliant shot, brilliant save.

From this corner, Marcal half-volleys well over.

  20. Postpublished at 11 mins

Huge cheers as Phil Jones stretches a leg out to block Nelson Semedo's cross. Daniel Podence was running in behind Jones.
