Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick to BBC Match of the Day: "The atmosphere (in the dressing room) is amazing. Quite rightly the boys were celebrating. They know what a massive win this was.

"Those are the best kind of wins when the other team has not time to come back. We are extremely happy with the performance and the level of physicality we played with bearing in mind we played three days ago at Brentford.

"We didn't always find the best solutions in the final third. In the last 20 minutes we had too many shots on goal when there was no realistic chance to score. We needed to be a bit more patient, but in the end it was about taking all three points.

"We had to take some risks in the last 15 minutes but in the end I wanted to show the players it is about winning this game and I'm more than happy we scored the goal in the last minute.

"The red army's support during the game was amazing. I can only say thank you to all the fans.

"It's always good but today was massive and they were also aware of how important this game was. They pushed us through the whole game."

    Wow!!!

What a goal this is from Kyle Walker-Peters, who has stunned Manchester City!

He starts it and ends it - linking up with Oriol Romeu on the right, getting it back in the middle then firing it into the top left corner with the outside of his boot.

    Southampton lead the league leaders.

    Leeds 0-1 Newcastle

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, speaking to BBC Sport: "We had the dominance and we had the chances to win the game.

"In the closing of the game it was difficult for us to get the goal. That increased their danger through their counterattacks."

On missing Patrick Bamford: "It is important to be able to count on him (Patrick Bamford) but throughout this period he has had different injuries. In this moment there is no clarity about when he will be recovered. Given how long he has been out for when he is healthy he also need a period to get up to speed."

    FT: Leeds 0-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

    Eddie HoweImage source, PA Media

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a massive win for us. I thought we played very well today. First half was a bit cagey. Second half we played really well, we defended well. We became a real counter threat the longer the game went on.

"Martin Dubravka played really well today. He made the save, commanded his box, took crosses. I thought our second half performance was really, really good. Chris Wood also gave us a platform as well from the central position. His workrate was tireless.

"All our subs performed really well today. The intensity of that match, whenever you play Leeds you know it will be end to end. Physically we suffered a bit.

"Yeah hanging on at the end is something we haven't done very well this season so that is a big psychological barrier we are hopefully on our way to overcome. I didn't feel we would concede today.

"We hope to use it as a turning point in our season, we need to, we need more wins so fingers crossed."

FT: Man Utd 1-0 West Ham

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

All four of us in the office thought it was going to be given offside. In the image we saw that was frozen Edinson Cavani looked offside.

It will be tough to take for West Ham when you have worked so hard and fought so hard like they did. To lose it in that fashion it is hard to take.

It's not the first and it won't be the last time that Manchester United will do that. They have done it so many times before.

They have obviously got quality in forward positions so the guys they bring on will make a difference.

  17. 'The best type of wins'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2022

FT: Man Utd 1-0 West Ham

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick, speaking to Sky Sports: "If you score in the last second of the game that is the best type of wins, a clean sheet. I think in the end we deserved to win. It takes patience to play West Ham. A few moments at the end I wished we would have passed the ball instead of shooting from wherever.

"Bearing in mind we played a few days ago against Brentford, the team looked physically good. We knew it would take patience, the way we played defensively, won balls back, I was really happy with that.

"I am very pleased the three subs prepared the goal and scored the goal. All were involved. That makes it even more important. I would love to have those two points from Villa Park, but with 17 points now we are pleased."

  19. 'It was a real kick in the teeth'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2022

FT: Man Utd 1-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham captain Declan Rice to BBC Match of the Day: "I think a draw was a fair result. There weren't many clear chances in the game.

"But to be naïve like that and give away a goal in the last 20 seconds is devastating.

"When they were pushing players forward we are such a counter-attacking side we still had the energy to go forward. It was a real kick in the teeth to concede that late.

"We are still up there and still competing, but we knew how big today was.

"We were much more compact than against Leeds last week but we didn't have that cutting edge.

"We will come back and be ready for that next one to push again."
