We'll be turning our attention to the game between QPR and Bournemouth shortly.

One last word on this game though.

Derby's only shot on target was Colin Kazim-Richards' cool finish into an empty net for their goal.

West Brom had 19 shots but struggled to make Ryan Allsop in the home goal work and they will need to start taking their chances if they're to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

  3. Derby stay bottom as Baggies miss chance to go secondpublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2021

Administration-hit Derby remain rooted to the foot of the table but they've closed the gap on Barnsley to seven points.

They're still 14 adrift of safety but that's back-to-back wins for Wayne Rooney's men now, so don' count them out just yet.

Albion would have gone second with a win but they remain fourth.

Second-placed Bournemouth could put some more distance between themselves and the Baggies when they take on QPR in 30 minutes time.

Derby take the points after a brilliant battling display!

The bottom side were gifted their goal when Cedric Kipre and Sam Johnstone got themselves into a real mess at the back and Colin Kazim-Richards showed his experience to calmly pass the ball into the empty net.

The promotion-chasing Baggies pushed for an equaliser but struggled to create anything clear until Ryan Allsop made a brilliant reaction save to deny Kyle Bartley's header in the final moments of injury time.

Ryan Allsop makes a superb save to deny Kyle Bartley a last-minute leveller!

Callum Robinson swings in a decent cross from the Albion left and Bartley gets up at the back post to power home.

Allsop stands strong to deny him.

Derby win a couple of throw-ins down their right.

To say they're not in a rush to take them would be an understatement.

Can the Baggies find a late leveller?

    Very much wishful thinking that.

Derby are edging towards successive victories for the first time this season, and the first time since February.

It's amazing the financial strife has not dragged them down totally.

    Derby 1-0 West Brom

Derby's back three have got through a huge amount of work back there and they have hardly put a foot wrong all game.

They're five minutes from helping their side to a win that might not prove to mean anything long term - but would mean the world today.

Jake Livermore smashes a bouncing ball high into the stand from 20 yards, much to the home fans' delight.

Think these last few minutes are going to be pretty chaotic with both teams making mistakes.

    Lovely.

    Another chance for Albion!

Brilliant work by teenager Tom Fellows down the right and his cross back to the edge of the area is into the path of Jordan Hugill - but his low effort goes past the post.

    You have to commend Derby.

Their plight looks incredibly difficult (if not impossible) but they're playing like they still believe they can somehow get out of this.

As Simon said a few minutes ago, victory today would still leave them 14 points adrift of safety.

Wayne Rooney is held in high esteem judging by the songs the Derby fans are singing in his honour.

Rooney spoke up in favour of Chris Kirchner's bid for the club earlier this month.

Kirchner lodged what he regarded as a formal bid at the beginning of December but has now pulled out because he felt the process was taking too long.

It will be interesting to see what Rooney has to say about the situation after the game.

Derby are going to have to stand up and be counted if they're to hold on to these three points.

It's not pretty but the home side get it away.

Had the world been different, Derby would now be 15th, with a handy seven point gap to the relegation zone, which wouldn't have been too bad given the restrictions manager Wayne Rooney is working under.

Unfortunately, their 21-point deduction means, even with victory here, they will still be seven points behind second-bottom Barnsley and 14 from a survival position.

The Rams supporters are sticking with their team though. The attendance today is 24,846.
