Paul: Get in City 4-1 into the 4th Rd, did what we had to do, now 8 days to prepare for Chelsea. Fair play to Swindon they kept at it & took their goal well.

  4. 'Very proud'published at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2022

    FT: Swindon 1-4 Man City

Swindon boss Ben Garner, speaking to ITV Sport: "I am very proud. They are one of the top three teams in world football. Our defensive shape was excellent, bit disappointed with some mistakes on the ball in the first half and it cost us unfortunately but we dug in. It has been a great cup run, great night for the supporters but now we turn to league football.

"We will keep working on that [playing out from the back], keep improving. A fantastic occasion but our priority is League Two and getting promotion.

"We didn't get that first goal. Penalty save and then we scored and got a bit of momentum. Maybe if we got that penalty and 3-2 it gets a bit tighter.

"The players in there it is a great experience for them. Hopefully there is a few in there who will go on and play in the Premier League. I'd like to think they will.

"Our aim this season is the league and we get back to that."

  5. Palmer 'a great player'published at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2022

    FT: Swindon 1-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City stand in boss Rodolfo Borrell, speaking to ITV Sport: "We started really well, on the front foot. There were moments maybe towards the end of the first half we were not as good as usual and allowed some counter attacks but overall it was a good game against good opponents.

On Cole Palmer: "Great quality. Everyone has been able to see it. He is a great player, still developing quite a lot but there is a lot of talent there. Hopefully very soon he can play more games with us like Phil Foden a couple of years ago.

"They are completely different players. Phil Foden has had more opportunities and he is established. Cole has the talent and ingredients to become... but let's see. It is in hands."

Did you speak to Pep Guardiola? "We were in touch at half time. There was not a massive change because everything was as planned as before.

"He has great confidence in all of us. Not just me but all the backroom staff. We planned all of this together. He has huge confidence in us and we are grateful. Everything was as planned and it has been a great experience for me and for all of us."

Nathan Albon: Swindon have done themselves proud tonight. 4-1 by no means a disgraceful scoreline and they’ll be buoyed by that goal and the penalty save. A great occasion and a handy reminder of what the FA Cup is all about.

  7. 'I enjoyed it'published at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2022

    FT: Swindon 1-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Cole Palmer, speaking to ITV Sport: "We started well. It is a tough place to come. They had the fans behind them.

"I enjoyed it. There is always that bit of pressure coming into the team being young but you have to go out there and enjoy it."

On what Pep Guardiola might have thought of his performance: "Hopefully he enjoyed it. I've just got to keep working hard. Got to keep going and try and get more minutes and help the team out."

  8. More FA Cup action to comepublished at 21:55 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2022

That's the first of 32 FA Cup ties being played over the course of the weekend done and dusted.

Games still to come include non-league Kidderminster Harriers, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, at home to Championship Reading, while holders Leicester City start their defence by hosting Watford in one of three all-Premier League ties.

Non-league Chesterfield are at European champions Chelsea - which is live on the BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website, app and the Red Button - and record 14-time winners Arsenal are at Championship club Nottingham Forest.

The BBC is showing five live games across its platforms, including 12-time winners Manchester United against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Monday (19:55 GMT) on BBC One.

Not to be for Swindon but a performance they can be proud of and they are applauded off by the home fans, who have certainly been entertained tonight.

  11. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 89 mins

    Swindon 1-4 Man City

Almost a fifth for Manchester City and it looks like a stunning save by Lewis Ward!

Rodri has a go from distance, it is a strong effort but Ward looks to get his fingertips to push it onto the crossbar.

A great strike, but excellent again from Ward, who has made some really good saves tonight.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 87 mins

    Swindon 1-4 Man City

Swindon goalscorer Harry McKirdy is applauded as he goes off, although the home fans will be a bit concerned that he is limping off. He is replaced by Mo Dabre while Ryan East comes on for Louis Reed.

There's also changes for Manchester City as Luke Mbete is on for Nathan Ake and Kayky takes Cole Palmer's place.

    Cole Palmer

A deserved goal for a brilliant display tonight!

Bernardo Silva's shot deflects into the path of Cole Palmer inside the Swindon box. The angle is tight but Palmer's shot is pushed onto the inside of the post by Lewis Ward but spins into the back of the net.

That's snuffed out any slight chance of Swindon staging an unlikely comeback, but the home fans don't care and are still cheering loudly. They've certainly enjoyed tonight.

It's a great finish, but the keeper will be disappointed that he was beaten at his near post. It is fantastic for the lad and all the supporters who have paid good money to watch this game. It's lovely for them to get something out of the game.

Pretty sure no one at City has complained of any "woes" - just buckled up and got on with it, as per. If I were a Swindon fan it'd be the diabolical defending I'd be more concerned about!

Well the magic of the FA Cup has packed up and left Wiltshire to search for another venue to be witness to an upset this weekend.
