    BBC football expert

Swindon have had a turbulent time off the pitch of late so it is great for them to have Premier League leaders Manchester City come to town. It will be a fantastic occasion at the County Ground, which is a 15,000 sell-out, but the Robins are much better on the road than they are at home at the moment.

Pep Guardiola's side survived a scare against another League Two side just down the road in Cheltenham in last year's fourth round, but I don't think this tie will be as close.

Swindon's style is a lot less route-one than Cheltenham's and I can't see there being a culture shock for City, who should be fine even without Guardiola present after he tested positive for Covid-19 this week.

    Danny's prediction: 1-2

Harry McKirdy is a player Manchester City will need to be wary of tonight.

The forward has 10 goals in 23 appearances for Swindon this season but four of those came in their last game - a 5-2 win against fellow promotion chasers Northampton.

McKirdy, 24, started his career at Aston Villa and joined Swindon in August after leaving Port Vale.

Speaking of teams, let's take a full look at the line ups.

Dion Conroy takes the captains armband for Swindon as he is recalled for the visit of Premier League Leaders Manchester City.

There is also a change in goal for the League Two side, with Lewis Ward replacing Joseph Wollacott.

Stand-in Manchester City boss Rodolfo Borrell names a strong side against their League Two hosts despite the Covid-19 outbreak at the club.

There are just four changes from the win against Arsenal at the weekend, with goalkeeper Zack Steffen replacing Ederson, while Ilkay Gundogan comes in and takes over as captain.

Kyle Walker is also among the starting XI, with Aymeric Laporte dropping to the bench. Cole Palmer also comes in, with Raheem Sterling out.

Swindon are expected to make a profit of around £300,000 from this game, a very decent amount no doubt.

But it is not just about the money - I know the town has been buzzing since Manchester City were pulled out of the hat and I'm sure excitement levels have gone up a notch with City naming a strong team.

    Tony Pulis
Former Stoke manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is important Swindon start really strongly. You don't want to be giving Manchester City an early goal.

Massive crowd tonight, it is going to be full, it is going to be rocking and the pitch looks absolutely magnificent.

It is a wonderful occasion. Forget about the game, the money Swindon make in the tie will probably help them get through the rest of the season.

It has been a long time since these two sides last faced each other - two decades to be exact.

It was also an FA Cup meeting with Manchester City winning 2-0 on 5 January, 2002 to progress to the fourth round.

Swindon were then midtable in what is now called League One while City were top of the then called First Division, chasing promotion to the Premier League.

A lot has happened to both clubs since then...

  10. Are there replays?published at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2022

Swindon Town v Man City (20:00 BST)

To help alleviate fixture congestion there will be no replays for the third and fourth round of the FA Cup.

That means it all needs to be settled tonight, meaning there will be extra time and penalties if needed.

Rodolfo Borrell has been part of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff for over five years

There's no Pep Guardiola in dugout tonight as the Manchester City boss and his assistant Juanma Lillo are isolating after testing for Covid-19 earlier this week, so it will be former academy coach Rodolfo Borrell on the touchline for the visitors.

It won't be a night off watching the Hairy Bikers on TV for Guardiola, however, as he will be still very much involved in how things play out tonight.

“The manager is going to be connected but we’ve already talked about tactics and everything we have to do during the game," Borrell said.

"The game might change, the only thing I can say is I've been working with him for several years now and we think very much alike. I will take my decisions but the manager is going to be connected as well. Like in any other time it will be between all of us."

The teams are out and there's a fair few first teamers in the Manchester City side, which is captained by Ilkay Gundogan. Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus also among the starters.

Full team news to follow shortly.

You'll often hear around this time of the year that the FA Cup is not what it was. That it has lost its magic.

But tonight's fixture highlights just why it is and will always be such a special competition.

League Two Swindon, who faced a very real possibility of going out of business last year, host Premier League defending champions and current leaders Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup.

For the visitors it is a potential banana skin they will be determined to overcome as they look to claim a seventh FA Cup trophy, while for the home side it is an opportunity to pull off an upset and produce one of the most memorable results in their history.

Knockout football under the lights at the County Ground. It has the potential to be an FA Cup classic.
