What a great ball from Fernandes into Rashford. I'm not sure he was looking for Greenwood, I think he got too far on the angle and left it too late.

Advantage Manchester United at half time but both sides have had some very good chances.

Entertaining stuff.

Marcus Rashford charges away down the right after being flicked on superbly by Bruno Fernandes. The forward gets into the box but his square ball is cleared off the line.

The Aston Villa defence were convinced Marcus Rashford was offside at the start of the attack that ended with Bruno Fernandes curling a shot over.

They all looked at the assistant closest to me, who looked back and signalled number five - Tyrone Mings - was playing Rashford on.

... but Marcus Rashford's free kick is into the wall before Scott McTominay thumps a volley straight down Emi Martinez's throat.

Manchester United certainly look capable of scoring more in this game. They also look like conceding too.

Luke Shaw sends in a deep cross, looking to find Marcus Rashford but Emi Martinez reads the danger and strides off his line to make the catch.

However, the hosts win a free kick soon after following a foul by Douglas Luiz on Rashford and this is a chance for Manchester United just before half time...

Diogo Dalot receives a huge cheer for a superbly timed sliding tackle to prevent Aston Villa from getting away down the left.

The visitors are keeping up the pressure as half-time approaches, however.

I would agree [that Villa have been the better side]. United have had a lot of the ball but haven't done a lot with it apart from their goal. Villa have created more chances and looked positive and very organised.

Matty Cash gets an important block in to stop Bruno Fernandes' low drive from sneaking in at the far post before Luke Shaw's rising effort is tipped over by Emi Martinez.

Good response by Manchester United and the home fans show their appreciation.

False alarm for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Diogo Dalot has been patched up and looks ok to continue so Wan-Bissaka heads back to his seat.

Douglas Luiz then sends in a corner for Aston Villa but Danny Ings flicks a header over.

He was unmarked and probably should have done better.

Diogo Dalot is down and receiving treatment. He appears to have got a nasty cut to his foot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is getting ready to come on.

That was an awful first touch from Victor Lindelof.

It created a problem where there wasn't one for Manchester United, who are under a bit of pressure now.

Aston Villa are all over Manchester United at the moment as now Jacob Ramsey's shot from the edge of the area is deflected wide.

As good as the home side have looked going forward, their defending has been all over the place.

Big let off for Manchester United!

Ollie Watkins turns Victor Lindelof - whose awful touch had set up the chance - inside the Manchester United area with a lovely bit of a skill and then lashes a shot against the underside of the bar.

So close!

But then Manchester United break quickly through Bruno Fernandes, who slips in Edinson Cavani but his shot at the near post is pushed away by Emi Martinez.

Tyrone Mings, sliding in, appears to have got a bit of a touch to take some of the power out of that shot.

Manchester United are well placed to advance here, although history suggests they should.

They have only been eliminated in the third round twice since a Bournemouth side managed by Harry Redknapp beat them in 1984.

Emiliano Buendia and Ollie Watkins combine nicely on the edge of the area before Buendia sweeps a low effort at goal. It isn't going to beat David de Gea but Aston Villa are finding gaps in the Manchester United defence.
