Steven Gerrard leads his Aston Villa players out and he gets quite the 'welcome'. Boos ring out as the former Liverpool player heads towards the dugout.

Manchester United boss Ralph Rangnick: "Before I arrived it was obvious the team conceded too many goals. The first approach was to make sure we stopped conceding as many and we have achieved that. But at the same time it is all about creating chances, dominating the game when we have the ball and this is where we haven't improved as yet. The only way you can dominate and control games in the Premier League is by being proactive. As soon as we begin to look passive, like we did against Wolves, we are struggling."
On his philosophy and formation: "The formation is a means to an end, a tool. The formation has to fit to the players you have available. In the long run it would be better to have one system and one style. It took Jurgen Klopp a few months to get his Liverpool side playing the way he wanted. When Thomas Tuchel arrived at Chelsea, he played with a back three. Pep Guardiola has selected his whole squad over five years to fit this possession-based football."

Manchester United have a pretty strong record at home in the FA Cup. They have won their last nine such fixtures by an aggregate score of 20-2.
Their last defeat in the competition at Old Trafford came in 2015, when they lost to Arsenal 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

Ralf Rangnick crammed a lot of English football knowledge into his time studying at Brighton.
This included attending the 1980 FA Cup final between Arsenal and West Ham, which the Hammers won thanks to Trevor Brooking's diving header.
"I've always been a big fan, supporter and admirer of the FA Cup," said Rangnick.
"I remember back in 1980 when I spent my year abroad in Brighton, I watched the FA Cup final at Wembley.
"It was West Ham against Arsenal, it was my farewell present from my teammates at Southwick.
"I've always been a big admirer of the atmosphere, that was obviously the old Wembley stadium. For me it's a very important competition."

Former England defender on BBC One
There is a little more control in midfield now at Aston Villa. They seem to have a bit more defensive unity and just that whole confidence too when someone like Steven Gerrard comes in. It just feels they have the balance right.

It is less than four months since Aston Villa came to Old Trafford and won in the Premier League, thanks to a late Kortney Hause goal and an even later Bruno Fernandes missed penalty.
Villa have changed their manager since then but bizarrely, the only change from Dean Smith's team to Steven Gerrard's is Hause losing his place in favour of Emiliano Buendia.

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard: "It is about the game, not about me. We are looking forward to it. Our record in the FA Cup in the last few years hasn't been good enough and we want to put that right tonight.
"We are not involved in any European competition, we play a game a week to the end of the season so we want a good cup run. Coming here is going to be tough, we are going to have to be at it."

Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One
This manager [Ralph Rangnick] has to find a system that works for this set of players and this set of players have to show a better attitude going forward because of late it hasn't been anywhere near good enough from a lot of them. The system the manager has played so far hasn't really worked so we expect a change tonight.

Very promising [Aston Villa's start under Steven Gerrard]. Inspiring as well. Gerrard just has that aura about him. Some of these players, Ramsey etc, can learn off Gerrard. He doesn't speak a lot but when he does, everyone listens.

No Dean Henderson on the Manchester United bench tonight.
Told he is not injured but isn't being risked.
The obvious conclusion is that a loan move is being lined up.
Henderson has been keen to get some game time having lost his place in the England squad.
I don't get the sense anything has been sorted just yet - but there is still three weeks before the transfer window closes.
Man Utd v Aston Villa (19:55 GMT)
Aston Villa haven't won the FA Cup since 1957 and as they are looking unlikely to go down this season a good cup run could be the target in the current campaign.
Villa have already won at Old Trafford this season with a 1-0 victory back in September and Steven Gerrard, who enjoyed many battles as a Liverpool player against Manchester United, will be determined to guide his side to a win tonight.

Aston Villa have already made a splash in the transfer market this month with Steven Gerrard bringing in his old Liverpool team-mate Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.
It sounds like they are not stopping there, either, with Lucas Digne believed to be in negotiations ahead of a £25m move to Villa Park.

Chris Lord: Van de Beek doesn’t even get in for a cup game? Get out Donny, even if its a loan move for 6 months, to advertise yourself for next Season.
Richard Browne: I guess Ronaldo doesn't have a contract that guarantees him FA Cup starts? Big chance to play Ralf football tonight.

This game is the first in a double header with Aston Villa hosting Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday.
There's no Philippe Coutinho for the visitors tonight but he could make his debut in that home game at the weekend.

I'm sure Gerrard is telling his players that United are there for the taking.
You can see in the players' body language that they don't believe in this manager or his management style.
Villa are a good team, they've got a good thing going. It's going to be a great game.

Given they are out of the EFL Cup and have next to no chance of winning the Premier League, the FA Cup has to represent Manchester United's best chance of silverware this season.
If they lose tonight, they will still have the Champions League to aim for but given the opposition, that will be exceptionally tough.
Should United fail to land a trophy this season, it will be five years without winning anything, which would be their longest run since the period between 1977 and 1983.
