  1. Crues gave Glenavon 'something to hang onto'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Crusaders 0-1 Glenavon

    Quote Message

I didn’t think we did enough to win the game and any time we did go through, their keeper made a couple of good saves and there were a few blocks on the line so it was a very disappointing day. Something we have been very good at is keeping clean sheets and we’re disappointed with the goal we gave away. That gave Glenavon something to hang onto. We made four or five positive subs and the personnel we had on the pitch, we’re always going to get a chance.

    Jeff Spiers, Crusaders assistant manager

  2. 'Point must take positives from defeat' - Graypublished at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    FT: Glentoran 1-0 Warrenpoint Town

    Quote Message

We're disappointed that we haven't taken anything away from the game, but the positive is that we had so much on display today. We have to focus on that and bring that into the next run of games. Their goal, it's a set-piece, we don't think it's a free-kick, but we should deal with it better. They caught us with it and we dealt very well with the majority of them.

    Barry Gray, Warrenpoint boss

    Coleraine 3-0 Linfield

    Quote Message

That's been coming, it was a top performance all round. There have been other weeks when we haven't been as ruthless but the goals came at good times. In terms of our penalty, I will have to see it back but there was a big appeal from our lads. We need to now make sure we feed off this and get a good week's training done for next weekend.

    Oran Kearney, Coleraine manager

  4. Doolin in the door at Shamrock Parkpublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Larne v Portadown (17:30 GMT)

Paul Doolin starred for Portadown on the pitch three decades ago and now he must produce the goods again from the dugout to keep the club in the top flight.

It's a big ask for the Dubliner with the Ports a distant nine points from safety and with little time to turn it around.

Doolin arrives as interim boss with a fine CV including league and cup success with Drogheda United before guiding the Republic of Ireland U19s to the semi-finals of the European Championships.

Portadown are hoping for a new manager 'bounce' and starting with three points at Inver Park this evening would be very, very welcome.

  5. McDaid pleased with 'ugly' winpublished at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    FT: Glentoran 1-0 Warrenpoint

    Quote Message

It was a tough game, ugly at times, but three points is the main thing. Conditions were tough, we played well in the first half but we didn't get the second or third goal. The last 10 or 15 minutes were a bit edgy, but we managed to get the job done. We played with the wind in the first half and we always knew Warrenpoint were going to throw everything at us at the end, but we ground it out. It wasn't as clean-cut as some of our performances recently, but we've come out of it with all three points.

    Robbie McDaid, Glentoran matchwinner

  6. Glenavon 'stood tall' - Hamiltonpublished at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Crusaders 0-1 Glenavon

    Quote Message

We had a bit of everything in that game. When we had to defend, we defended well and when the keeper had to make saves, he made saves. The back four stood tall when we had to defend, especially in the last 20 minutes when they must have had every centre forward they have at the club on the pitch. But we played some really good stuff and probably should have been two or three-nil up and that allowed them to cling on to the hope of an equaliser.

    Gary Hamilton, Glenavon manager

Joyous scenes at the Oval as Glentoran beat Point to go top.

Good to see Glens skipper Marcus Kane back playing, too, after an extended spell on the sidelines.

    Quote Message

Linfield simply never got going. Chris Shields and Christy Manzinga have been their best players all season, take them out of the side and they look a shadow of themselves. To be honest, I have not been that impressed by Linfield all season and they did not perform today.

    Larne v Portadown (17:30 GMT)

All eyes will be on Paul Doolin as the Dubliner takes charge of the Ports for the first time.

And the former Shamrock Park player is already shaking things up by making four changes from Tuesday's defeat by Crusaders.

George Tipton, Oisin Conaty, Sam Warde and Elliott Dugan come into the side with Stephen Teggart, Reece Jordan, Howard Beverland and Josh Doherty the quartet to drop out.

Larne bounced back from two league defeats by beating basement boys Warrenpoint Town in midweek.

Inver Park boss Tiernan Lynch goes with two changes as the hosts chase a win which would take them up to fourth.

Graham Kelly and Cian Bolger are replaced in the line-up by Kofi Balmer and Dean Jarvis.

Larne: Devlin, Balmer, Watson (capt), Sule, Herron, Hale, McDaid, Doherty, Bonis, Cosgrove, Cosgrove, Jarvis.

Subs: Nasseri, Argyrides, Scott, Lynch, Mitchell, Adair, Aretzis.

Portadown: Barr, Hall, Ruddy (capt), Finnegan, Mckeown, Tipton, Salley, Conaty, Warde, Dupree, Dugan.

Subs: H Doherty, McMullan, Lavery, Teggart, Smith, J Doherty, Glenfield.

    Dungannon Swifts 3-2 Carrick Rangers

Rhyss Campbell's double helps Dungannon to a fourth win in five league games as they move above Carrick into ninth place in the table.

Darragh McBrien was the other goalscorer for Swifts.

Kyle Cherry and Jordan Gibson found the net for Carrick who were unable to find a third equaliser in an exciting end-to-end contest.

    Coleraine 3-0 Linfield

There it is, the full-time whistle has gone and Coleraine have secured an impressive 3-0 win over Linfield that sees the Blues lose their lead at the top of the table.

The opener was a Lyndon Kane penalty that was hotly disputed, but there was no doubt about superbly taken goals from Matthew Shevlin and Jamie Glackin in the final 15 minutes.

It was poor throughout from a flat Linfield who are overtaken at the top by Glentoran.

    Crusaders 0-1 Glenavon

A very useful away win for Glenavon, thanks to Peter Campbell's early header.

It was a strangely subdued performance by Crusaders, save for the final quarter of the game but, aside from a few late goalmouth skirmishes, Glenavon goalkeeper James Taylor was rarely troubled.

    Glentoran 1-0 Warrenpoint Town

It's all over at the Oval.

Robbie McDaid's first-half header was the difference.

A match that certainly won't live long in the memory, but Glentoran will be pleased with having passed another potentially tricky assignment and claim a result that will see them end the day above Linfield at the top!

As for Warrenpoint, it's now 10 games without a win. They're five points adrift of 11th-placed Portadown, who travel to Larne for the later kick-off.
