    Coleraine 1-0 Linfield

That's the way to take a penalty.

Lyndon Kane calmly slots home the spot-kick to give Coleraine an early lead.

    Cool as you like.

  2. Postpublished at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Glentoran 0-0 Warrenpoint Town

Big chance for Glentoran as Jay Donnelly is sent through on goal, but his right-footed effort is uncharacteristically tame and easily gathered by Stephen McMullan.

That should have been an early breakthrough for the hosts!

    Quote Message

We led the game, we were comfortable in the game for so long, but we switched off for the last five or six minutes and it cost us dearly. They were basic errors. We should be coming away with three points and the only thing we should be talking about is Jamie McDonagh and his goals. I feel sorry for him, he scored two fantastic goals, but the only thing we end up talking about are Cliftonville mistakes. All year we have been defensively sound as a team so it's frustrating that weakness has creeped in during the last few games and we have lost valuable points.

    Ballymena Utd 2-2 Cliftonville

    Quote Message

“If there was ever a game which evidenced how you have to keep going right to the very end and it is important that you keep believing, and it is vitally important that you maintain your resilience – then that performance by Ballymena United will be a very good example. We know how good a side Cliftonville are, they play some fantastic football. We asked the players to respond to the disappointment of the result on Tuesday down at Carrick, where we pulled no punches. That performance wasn’t good, wasn’t acceptable and it didn’t reach the standards that they had set themselves. This was about putting that wrong right. I’m very proud of them, delighted that they kept going. You thank the whole group because it is not just about the eleven that start. We just went for it, there was no great tactical mind behind it, it was just can we get people on?

    Crusaders v Glenavon

Crusaders will have watched with interest as Cliftonville let two points slip late on at Ballymena last night.

The Shore Road side know that victory today would take them to within four points of their north Belfast rivals - and with a game in hand - in the race for third position and a lucrative automatic European place.

Manager Stephen Baxter makes two midfield changes from the side which claimed a last-gasp midweek win at Portadown with Philip Lowry and Declan Caddell replacing Jude Winchester and Robbie Weir.

Glenavon also claimed three points in midweek and manager Gary Hamilton makes just one change from their triumph over Dungannon Swifts with Michael O'Connor in for Andy Waterworth, who has to settle for a place on the bench.

Crusaders: Tuffey, Burns, Larmour, Robinson, Wilson, Caddell, Forsythe, Lowry, Kennedy, Clarke, Heatley.

Subs: Pauley, Weir, Lecky, O'Rourke, Owens, Winchester, McMurray.

Glenavon: Taylor, Haughey, Birney, Wallace, Singleton, O'Mahony, , Garrett, Snoddy, O'Connor, Campbell, Fitzpatrick.

Subs: A Doyle, Waterworth, Hall, McCloskey, Scannell, J Doyle, Lynch.

    Dungannon Swifts v Carrick Rangers

Dungannon Swifts' starting XI shows five changes from the side that lost 3-1 to Glenavon on Tuesday night and brought to an end a run of three straight Premiership wins for the men from Stangmore Park.

Micheal Glynn, Joe McCready, Garry Breen, Darragh McBrien and Ethan McGee come in, with Ben Gallagher, Ryan Mayse and Adam Glenny dropping to the bench and Caolin Coyle and Luke McKendry not included in today's squad.

Carrick's contrasting form had seen them pick up two draws and seven defeats from nine top-flight encounters but a 3-0 home win over Ballymena United in midweek brought an end to that ignominious run.

Rangers manager Stuart King includes the two loan signings he has snapped up from Accrington Stanley until the end of the season - midfiedler Tom Scully and left-back Matthew Carson.

Alex Gawne drops to the subs' bench, with Kurtis Forsythe dropping out of the panel for today's game.

A win for Dungannon would see them leapfrog Carrick into eighth place in the league table.

Swifts have won both previous meetings between the sides this season - 2-0 at Stangmore in October and 2-1 at Taylors Avenue in December.

Dungannon Swifts: Dunne, Knowles, O Smyth (capt), McGinty, Devlin, Campbell, Glynn, McCready, Breen, McBrien, McGee.

Subs: Nelson, Mayse, Gallagher, McGinty, Glenny, Convie, Walsh.

Carrick Rangers: Skeet, Anderson, Tilney, Surgenor, Cherry, Cushley, Ervin, Gibson, Glendinning. Carson, Scully.

Subs: Nicholl, Gordon, Gawne, Kelly, Kalla, Chambers, Hunter.

    Glentoran v Warrenpoint Town

Glentoran will have been pleased to see Ballymena's late, late show against Cliftonville last night, with a draw leaving the Glens with the chance to move six points clear of the third-placed Reds.

The Glens produced last-gasp heroics of their own on Tuesday, of course, as Conor McMenamin popped up with a crucial goal to see off Coleraine.

Mick McDermott has made just one change from the win over the Bannsiders, with top scorer Jay Donnelly returning to the line-up and Michael O'Connor dropping to the bench.

Without a win in nine and five points adrift of second-from-bottom Portadown, Warrenpoint desperately need a result, and Barry Gray's team shows two changes from Tuesday's defeat by Larne.

Dylan Hand and Gregory Moorhouse are restored to the line-up with Alan O'Sullivan and Jonathan Leddy making way.

Since beating the Glens at Milltown in April 2018, Point have taken just three points from a possible 36 against today's opponents. They'll need another three this afternoon to keep the pressure on Portadown in the scrap to avoid the drop.

Glentoran: McCarey, Burns, Marshall, Donnelly, McDaid, Murray, McClean, Clucas, Marron, McMenamin, Plum.

Subs: Glendinning, Kane, McCartan, R Donnelly, O'Connor, Smith, Cushnie.

Warrenpoint Town: McMullan, Ball, Hand, Dillon, McCaffrey, Gallagher, Wade-Slater, Moorhouse, McKenna, Byrne, R O'Sullivan.

Subs: Coleman, Peers, A O'Sullivan, Leddy, Shotayo.

    Coleraine v Linfield

Some interesting team news from the away dressing room at the Showgrounds as young striker Ethan Devine starts up front after coming off the bench and scoring a late equaliser against Cliftonville on Tuesday night.

Jordan Stewart also comes into David Healy's starting line-up, with on-loan Rangers striker Chris McKee dropping to the bench and the injured Christy Manzinga missing out.

Matthew Clarke makes his 300th Linfield appearance today and has the pleasure of wearing the captain's armband for the occasion.

Coleraine manager Oran Kearney also makes two changes to his starting line-up from the side that lost 1-0 to Glentoran in midweek.

Curtis Allen and Matthew Shevlin, who both came on as subs in that game, get the nod up front from manager Oran Kearney, with James McLaughlin and winger Conor McKendry dropping out. New signing Andy Mitchell is on the bench.

Coleraine:Deane, Kane, Mullan, Brown, Jarvis, Lowry, Carson, O’Donnell (c), Glackin, Allen, Shevlin.

Subs: Gallagher, McKendry, McLaughlin, Bradley, Wilson, Traynor, Mitchell

Linfield: Johns, Roscoe-Byrne, Newberry, Callacher, Millar, Stewart, Clarke, McClean, Devine, Fallon, Mulgrew (c).

Subs: Walsh, McKee, Pepper, A Clarke, Archer, Montgomery, McCoubrey.
