We've hit a bit of a lull now, happens on transfer deadline day.

It'll then explode into life with numerous signings being announced at the same time.

Hopefully me and Dawksey will have clocked off by then, leaving the late crew to do all the work 😂😂

  4. Palace to sign Mateta permanentlypublished at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport

Crystal Palace should complete the permanent signing of Jean-Phillipe Mateta.

Frenchman Mateta, 24, who is on an 18-month loan from Mainz has impressed in recent weeks, scoring against Norwich and Millwall.

There was a clause for Palace to buy him anyway but it seems his recent performances have led to the club taking that option up this month.

  6. Lingard's Newcastle hopes beginning to fadepublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

I have been told there is no change to the situation between Jesse Lingard, Manchester United and Newcastle.

Newcastle wanted the player, Lingard wants to go - on loan to the end of the season - and Manchester United want a hefty payment if they sanction the deal and the Magpies stay up.

As it stands, not looking likely anything will happen.

11.35 comment about Newcastle not being able to field new players in postponed games. Does this apply to injured players at the time too? Suspension? New signings for all teams? Think things through fella - this is a pretty silly argument to make.

  8. Burnley secure 'number one priority'published at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Burnley

Natalie Bromley, No Nay Never, external

There is a long-standing debate amongst Burnley fans as to the priority order of our signings. For me, the vacant No. 9 shirt became number one the moment Newcastle triggered Chris Wood’s release clause.

And, nice and early in the day, here it is. Wout Weghorst is in the building and ready to face Watford next Saturday. This takes some immediate pressure off our striker problem and means we now have options in a key relegation battle. And we all know Burnley love a 6ft 6in centre-forward.

One of the most pleasing aspects of this signing, for me at least, is the willingness by the new owners to shop in the European market. A willingness our previous owners lacked - and I was constantly bemused by our insistence on targeting expensive English players from the Championship market, especially with such a tight budget.

Maxwell Cornet has been a huge success so far and I have high expectations that Weghorst will follow suit.

Now, where do we find a central midfielder and a winger in the next 11 hours…

I'm not entirely sure why it's unfair that Newcastle have strengthened before the rearranged games, every club has had the same opportunity to make signings and they're all constrained by the same FFP rules which Newcastle have complied with.

  11. West Ham's Nunez bid rejectedpublished at 12:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Sky Sports

Portuguese side Benfica have reject West Ham bid for striker Darwin Nunez, according to Sky Sports.

The Hammers are considering an improved offer for the Uruguay international but given time the time constraints on involved on deadline day, it is looking increasingly difficult to do.

In addition, as it stands, David Moyes is unlikely to go for Liverpool striker Divock Origi.

  12. Liverpool interested in Carvalhopublished at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

Liverpool are interested in Fabio Carvalho of Fulham but so far have not made a bid that meets the expectation of the Championship side.

Any deal would see Carvalho, 19, stay at Craven Cottage for the remainder of the season as Fulham seek automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Marco Silva's side are currently six points clear of third placed Bournemouth.

That'd be a very good signing for Championship side Bournemouth. Nat Phillips was playing in the Champions League this season, keeping Zlatan Ibrahimovic quiet, and was linked with a loan over to a number of Premier League clubs.

  14. Bournemouth hoping to sign Phillipspublished at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Bournemouth are hoping to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old impressed last season in the injury absence of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez but has had limited opportunities this term, particularly following the arrival if Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

Talks are continuing and there is expected to be a loan fee involved.

The Cherries have also been linked with Phillips' Liverpool team-mate, Wales defender Neco Williams.

Re 11:35: Hard to disagree that it’s unfair in the particular case of Newcastle improving ahead of rescheduled games but what if the situation were reversed and a club had been raided for its best players before a rearranged game? Would those players be made to return for the postponed games?

  16. Brereton Diaz unlikely to movepublished at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

  17. Man City's Alvarez deal closepublished at 12:16 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Mike Minay
    BBC Radio Manchester

Manchester City are on track to complete the signing of River Plate forward Julian Alvarez by close of play today.

The Blues are also confident of finding a Championship loan for forward Morgan Rogers. The 19-year-old is seeking more game time after spending the first half of the season at Bournemouth.

There’s nothing to suggest that James McAtee will be going anywhere in this window. That had been rumours of a loan option but it’s likely he’ll stay and work with the first team.

  18. Ramsey to Rangers?published at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

Aaron Ramsey to Rangers will be one of the biggest coups of this transfer window.

Our reporter Simon Stone says the Wales midfielder is set to leave Juventus today but has yet to decide where to go.

    What are your thoughts?

Thumbs up for good move for Ramsey.

Thumbs down for bad move for Ramsey.

  19. Man Utd's 'predictable window'published at 12:07 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Manchester United

    Barney Chilton at Red News

We’ve been needing a top quality defensive midfielder for a number of years, make that a number of managers now, so it makes perfect logic to cash in another dividend and shelve it for the ‘another window’ file.

Anthony Martial FC have been put out of their misery, and ours, though it will be interesting to see how he gets on. Jesse Lingard should have left a year ago so last minute haggling over fees are peculiar. As much as a dm, let us hope yet another ’new era’ at United ends handing out new contracts or extensions that ultimately prove futile.

Ralf Rangnick insists we have too many players on the books so surely Donny deserves releasing from his hostage video. What is Donny, where is Donny, if Donny kicks a ball in an empty forest, etc, etc. Three managers, temporary or otherwise have thought he shouldn’t be starting - but he deserves to be playing football elsewhere then.

We hope Utd can scab a cup, we certainly have a much more talented squad than a year ago - but until we get to grips with the midfield issue and bring in top quality, there will be a sense that Utd continue to Wait for Godot each window in terms of value rather than just having to bite the bullet and pay what is necessary. Utd and this window seems predictable - on pitch, we remain anything but….
