The hosts of the Talking Shutt podcast , externalhave their say on Leeds' transfer business.

Gary Devonport: In a window where on the face of things Leeds needs reinforcements, Marcelo Bielsa continues to believe in the process of blooding youth and making do, much as he has throughout COVID. It looks a risk but if any man can steer Leeds to safety it’s the Argentine.

Ben Tomensen: Do we need to improve the squad? Yes. Do we need to do this for the wrong person just to get numbers? No. It all seems to hang on Bielsa and in Bielsa we ultimately have to trust. He will live and die by this sword. With how this season has gone, we just need to simply stay up.

Mike Boucher: I have absolute faith and gratitude for what the board have done for Leeds United - but when windows like this come around, you wonder what they've been doing all year.

Despite suffering from numerous injuries throughout this season, Leeds have kept their powder very dry this window. They were in for Brenden Aaronson but RB Salzburg weren't budging. So how has it gone down with the fanbase?

  4. Ramsey deciding on one of three possible movespublished at 11:53 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    The Athletic

It's not a transfer deadline day if a footballer isn't spotted at a service station, a well known British bakery or at the airport.

Well, The Athletic are reporting that Juventus outcast Aaron Ramsey is currently at a terminal in the UK deciding on one of three possible moves.

They including one Premier League club - though not Burnley after rejecting them - one big club on the continent and Rangers in Scotland.

    Where will he end up?

  5. A striker in and a striker out at Cardiff Citypublished at 11:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Michael Pearlman
    BBC Sport Wales

Cardiff City fans feared the loan signing of Jordan Hugill would be a pre-cursor to the departure of Wales forward Kieffer Moore and those fears have proved accurate.

BBC Sport Wales reports that Moore is set to depart for Bournemouth for a fee of around £5 million.

However, the Bluebirds are also signing another forward to cover the loss of last season's top scorer with striker Sam Surridge, a former Swansea player, arriving on loan from Stoke City.

That is likely to be the last arrival at Cardiff, who have signed five players on loan this month. Some further players could yet depart before 11pm.

We expect activity at Swansea City and Newport County today as well, with some key members of Robert Page's Wales squad also possibly set for moves today.

    Aston Villa

January's transfer market has been an unusually busy one for Aston Villa this year, although we Villa fans are not complaining as the signings, we have made have been top class. Coutinho, Digne, Olsen and Chambers are all players that know the demands of the Premier Peague. The latter (Chambers) took all Villa fans by surprise and divided opinion.

Personally, I think it was a fantastic piece of business. He is still only 27, brings a wealth of experience and can play a variety of positions.

It's clear to see Gerrard is building a squad that can compete not only in the league, but for places within the squad. Nobody can take their place in the first team for granted.

Today will be exciting as we are expecting one potential incoming. Bentancur from Juventus seems to be the player Villa are pushing for. If it doesn't materialise and no more players arrive at Bodymoor Heath, Villa have had a very productive transfer window and there shouldn't be many complaints.

Outgoings we have had players from our very talented under-23s go out on loan for experience which was expected.

But there seems to be a lot of noise about Douglas Luiz. Teams are interested and if we believe what we hear, we have rejected £30m for him. He has 18 months left on his current deal and it will be interesting to see what Villa will do if a £40m plus offer comes in for him.

Either way it should be an exciting end to this transfer window.

I’m with Rob from Leicester (10:26). I went to my first Newcastle game 55 years ago and despite massive support home and away have seen us win nothing, aside from the Fairs Cup in 1969 and Texaco Cup (twice) in the 1970s. Premiership football lost its soul to money and foreign owners a long time ago. But what are fans supposed to do? You either give up a lifelong attachment or accept there are some things you have no real control over.

    Brentford

Christian Eriksen "will have one eye on the World Cup in November" during his spell at Brentford, according to the BBC's senior football reporter Ian Dennis.

"There won't be a better story for feel-good factor today," Dennis said on BBC Radio 5 Live. "It's great to have him playing football again and have him back in the English game.

"But he'll have a point to prove. He'll want to be playing on a regular basis and will have an eye on the World Cup in November, to prove he can get back to his best.

  10. The day so far...published at 11:40 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

If you're just clocking on, we've had two Premier League deals so far.

    They are:

Christian Eriksen - Brentford (free transfer)

    Wout Weghorst - Wolfsburg-Burnley (undisclosed)

Apparently, there are lots of irons in fires, though, so expect more deals to be done in the near future.

  14. Weghorst 'ideal' replacement for Woodpublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Tom Hardy
    Sports Interactive social media assistant

Respected as one of the most reliable goalscorers in the Bundesliga, the big Dutchman has netted over 15 times in each of his previous three league campaigns and will hope to complement Maxwel Cornet in Burnley's search for goals.

An intelligent presser and excellent in his movement to find space in the box, Weghorst offers more than just his hold-up play. The 29-year-old’s work rate should make him an ideal replacement for Chris Wood in Sean Dyche’s system whilst adding another aerial threat from set-pieces for the Clarets.

The team from the Football Manager game will be giving analysis on players throughout the day.

  15. 'This window has been superb'published at 11:26 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Newcastle United

Norman Riley, True Faith Newcastle United Fanzine and Podcast:

The arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have been followed by the exciting arrival of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon.

The Brazilian international is very highly rated and has got us fans buzzing. His potential is huge and his combative, powerful running plus ability to open up play and create is what we have been crying out for in central midfield for years.

The Dan Burn deal looks like it is happening and signing a versatile left-footed defender, with bags of experience, who has been coached by the excellent Graeme Potter and who is also a lifelong Newcastle fan would be most welcome.

The possibility of Matt Targett arriving on loan is also welcome news. Again, he is a player who would improve the squad. This window has been superb for us so far.

  16. Newcastle close in on Ekitike dealpublished at 11:22 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Reims teenage striker Hugo Ekitike.

The 19-year-old France youth international is the Magpies preferred target after it became clear Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah was not for sale.

Ekitike has scored eight goals in 19 appearances this season and would add to Newcastle's attacking options after signing striker Chris Wood for £25m earlier in the transfer window.

Should the deal go through, the youngster would be Newcastle's second signing from Ligue 1 after Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes joined the club in a £41.5m deal.

Clubs in France have had limited funds after a TV rights deal collapsed last year.

  20. 'A striker is essential'published at 11:13 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Arsenal

    Akhil Vyas, Arsenal Supporters Trust

So it all comes down to the last day for Arsenal with a striker essential.

Arsenal haven’t scored in four games so are desperate for some firepower with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seemingly out the door. It’s quite sad really, a high profile player who played for us and it’s ended like this.

We know we lack goals and are letting Auba go, so the question is, will a striker be coming in today?

With Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey back, the midfield may be less of a priority unless an opportunity appears.
