  1. 'Too many United players aren't good enough or don't care'published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2022

FT: Man City 4-1 Man Utd

    Peter Schmeichel
Former Manchester United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I thought Rangnick should have changed things at half time. He may have had words, but the second half was worse; at no point were United in the game apart from on the scoreline. Far too many players are either not good enough, or don't care enough. Having an interim manager means he can't do much; he knows he's not going to be there, so what can he change?

There are players whose contracts are running down. Pogba started the game, big question marks over whether he's going to stay. Lingard has said he doesn't want to be there. But for all that, Man City showed, in difficult circumstances, that they are the best in the country.

Gary Neville going in hard on United there. Hard but fair. Won the ball.

  4. 'A disgrace in that second half'published at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2022

FT: Man City 4-1 Man Utd

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Sky Sports: "The first thing to say is that City were absolutely outstanding, particularly in that second half,

"United showed real intent in the first half but they finished like an absolute shower. They were a disgrace in that last 25 minutes.

"This is the first time Ralf Rangnick has come up against a proper team – and they’ve been given a proper doing."

Dotify: Is it me, or do none of the United players look or act like they are hurting by this scoreline? You are losing to your city rivals...the likes of Keane would be in battle mode, but this batch are just in it for the paycheck

RobWillo: I put this Utd defeat down to Rangnick's bad tactics. Needed to keep it tight and go for quick counters - how our only goal was scored. Used up so much energy pressing in that first half

We have received word that the stopping of play in the first half was for a fan who needed medical attention after being taken ill with a suspected heart attack. It was dealt with by medics and the fan is continuing to receive medical treatment.

We here wish them all the best and a very speedy recovery.

It has been a good day for Arsenal too.

United's defeat means they keep their spot in the top four. They are a point better off than United, having played three fewer games than both the Red Devils and West Ham, who trail the Gunners by three points.

So, Man City go six points clear at the top again, but having played one more game than second-placed Liverpool.

City are now 22 points better off than United.

The City players are basking in the celebrations happening in the stands here now. We've had the Yaya/Kolo Toure song to 2 Unlimited's 'No Limit' and now we've got 'Blue Moon' being pumped out.

Another good day for the blue side of Manchester. Chastening for those in red.

  11. 'City didn't have to work that hard'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2022

FT: Man City 4-1 Man Utd

    Peter Schmeichel
Former Manchester United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a good reflection of this game. The difference in quality and willingness to do what is needed was evident. Man City have been majestic, but they haven't had to work that hard for it and I think that will hurt United most.

Now then. Has the boot of a Manchester United player behind Mahrez played the forward on?

To the naked eye he looked well off. But Alex Telles' foot, and also a bit of his knee, could be crucial.

Riyad Mahrez thinks he has a fourth after latching on to Ilkay Gundogan's pass and smashes a shot past David de Gea.

    It should be 4-1.

City sweep forward for a wonderful initial move that ends with Phil Foden unable to provide the telling finish.

They refuse to away, though, and Jack Grealish sets up Ilkay Gundogan, who has time and space but fluffs his shot wide from 12 yards out.

Paul: City are miles better than Man Utd but it won’t exactly help your cause or hopes of getting a result if those you pay to be “defenders” can’t actually defend at all. There’s no shame in losing to City but how some of those goals have been scored is pathetic from Utd

Colin: I've ran out of words to describe these players and this team. It’s embarrassing what is happening on the pitch. The gap between Utd and the top is huge now. Not just 1 or 2 players short, I’d say at least 7

City have spent a lot of money to be this good, for sure. But when you consider what United have also shelled out, there really shouldn't be this much of a gulf. It's men against boys.

And now we have the Poznan, which is spreading across the ground.

City almost add a fourth from a corner with the fans' backs turned. A shot from the edge of the box is blocked.
