    Brentford 0-0 Burnley

Burnley come forward now as a good ball through the defence finds Maxwel Cornet in space on the left side of the box. He tries a first-time pass to Dwight McNeil in the middle of the box but it hits a defender first.

Brentford have had the better of the opportunities. Ivan Toney likes to score goals, but if it’s not on for him he always has his head up, looking for his team-mates.

He nearly set one up there for Bryan Mbeumo.

I said at the start of the season that the only guarantee was that Burnley would survive. I have never doubted that and a win today would be massive for them. Sean Dyce works wonders every year.

    Burnley survive!

The Clarets are usually pretty solid in defence but look nervous at the back as Sergi Canos' goalbound shot is blocked before Bryan Mbeumo scoops the loose ball over.

At some point a game of football is going to break out! At some point someone needs to get their foot on the ball.

You think Christian Eriksen is the most likely to do so, but nobody has managed to do it so far.

First attempt by Burnley as Josh Brownhill sends an effort whistling just wide. A decent effort.

Bit of a panic in the Burnley defence as Bryan Mbeumo races onto a long crossfield ball. Mbeumo gets into the area but struggles to get a shot off with lots of Burnley players back.

The hosts then win a free kick but Christian Eriksen's ball into the box is cleared.

If Burnley win today they are sucking Brentford into the pack and Brentford don’t want that.

They’ve been promoted but they haven’t been in a relegation battle. Until you’ve been in a relegation battle and you understand that dynamic, it can be really difficult.

At the moment their head is just above water, they don’t wont to be pulled under. If they lose today they will really feel the pressure.

Re 14:36 - Not sure I agree it's all over for Burnley if they lose today. Bad yes but Everton remain in a world of trouble with their form and upcoming fixtures.

Can't see why people are writing Burnley off. Games in hand on their rivals, apart from Everton - indeed a WIN today would take them above The Toffees for now, wouldn't it?

There’s nothing worse than leading the race but not being able to shake the guy who is on your shoulder. If you stay there long enough you can wear the guy down.

I can see Liverpool doing this to Manchester City. They know if they mess up or drop points again, Liverpool are in.

    You can’t write Liverpool off.

  14. 'It's not a happy camp'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    FT: Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Graham Potter speaking BT Sport: "We started really well, we were the better team on the front foot. The goal took the wind out of our sails a little bit, especially with the run we're on and them being Liverpool. Credit to the boys they stuck in there.

"1-0 at half-time we're still in the game. In the second half a couple of things didn't go our way with the penalty.

"We had chances to press and unsettle them, our response throughout the game was great, I thought we finished the game really well. I think against a team as strong as Liverpool we were not good enough."

On potential red card for Robert Sanchez: "I have not seen it back, I think it was an accident. The quality of the run and pass beat him.

"It's not a happy camp when you lose, but we just need to focus on the next game. The Premier League can be difficult. The recency of results is the lens you look at. Rightly so, but we need to do better.

"We need to get to the points tally we want, and the only way we can do that is to focus on the next game."

I think it’s going to be a tight game. There might not be a lot of flair because there’s a little bit of fear.

When relegation is at the back of teams’ minds, sometimes the reaction is to relax and believe in what the manager is telling them to do.

  16. 'We just want to win games'published at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    FT: Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to BT Sport: "We were good, we knew Brighton are a really good team that can create problems, that's what we saw from the beginning.

"Like the last game we need to get used to the opponents. They adapt to us a lot and play in areas to try and hurt us.

"We were really strong and scored a great goal. We had really good moments with massive chances where we missed the final pass. But I'm happy. There were moments at the the end where I'd like to control the ball more but it's a difficult moment.

"It was expected to be a difficult game and I'm really happy with certain moments."

On Luis Diaz's goal: "He did what a striker had to do. I didn't see it back but it was spectacular enough in the first moment. To get in there with his head it was really brave. A great goal."

On potential red card for Robert Sanchez: "I have no idea, I saw it only once.

"We had our chances, we had massive counter-attacks that we didn't use but it's fine. I'm really not overly critical with the boys. Consistency is the most important thing in football, but it's also the most difficult as well.

"I think we deserved it, to win the game and that's all I ask for. I am happy."

On Mohamed Salah being substituted: "Something was not right. I think there was a situation where his foot got stretched. We'll have to see."

On the title race: "It's always the same, you expect Manchester City to win every game when you watch them play.

"The only thing we can do is as win as many football games as possible. We're ready, we don't need to call it a title race, we just want to win games."

Current view at Brentford Community Stadium. Blue skies through those swirling clouds in west London, and let me tell you the pitch, and I, have had a drenching. A real panic amongst the press box as that spray drifted this way… it’s a miracle we’ll be on air for Final Score.

I’m really looking forward to the Premier League’s only 3pm kick-off this afternoon, and it’s a big game at the bottom of the table. Brentford - not safe yet – host Burnley - who start the day in the bottom three.

Thomas Frank says it will be down to who scores the first goal. And there might be the problem for Sean Dyche’s Burnley, who have really struggled in front of goal this season and come into this one on the back of back-to-back defeats.

To be fair to the Clarets – they tend to turn it on in the second half of a season and today could really mark a significant turning point for them.

  19. 'We are delighted with the result'published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    FT: Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson speaking to BT Sport: "It is always pleasing to come away from home and get the three points. Brighton are a good footballing side. I know they've lost the last few but they are always dangerous. They've troubled us at times over the past couple of years so it was a really big game for us today and we delivered. We are delighted.

On Luis Diaz: "He's top class. He's come in and done fantastically well. With the ball, the quality he possesses, without it, his work rate, it was another big performance from him.

On potential red card for Robert Sanchez: "I don't know. He's obviously late, but Luis has done so well to get there first. It was an important goal at the time; a big performance from him and the team."

On the need for a second goal: "You always want it to kill the game. Thankfully managed to do that; had one or two half chances to score as well on the counter-attack. We are very pleased, to be honest."

On the title race: "We speak about this every week but we are concentrating on ourselves and the next game. That has always worked really well for us."

Wout Weghorst is a fantastic player.

He hasn’t scored as many goals as Burnley would like but he has impact off the ball and the way he can hold up play and bring players into the game.

He is a fantastic player for Burnley and he’s going to be crucially important for them in the remaining fixtures.
