  2. 'That is the way we need to play every game'published at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Everton 0-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves boss Bruno Lage tells Match of the Day: "Today I am very happy. That is the way we need to play every game, or try to. Sometimes when you lose it is important to continue to focus. We did that and after three defeats, two victories. Very good.

On what he said at half-time: “It was a fight because they are a big team with top players. Lampard has a lot of experience now as a manager. 5-0 they come to be aggressive, they come to press and give a good answer in front of their times. After we controlled that and the plan worked well. Sometimes the plan goes right and today it was like that."

  3. 'Our forward players gave us another level'published at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    Southampton 1-2 Watford

    Watford

Watford manager Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC Sport: "I thought we played well today from the first minute. We weren't doing that badly on Thursday. We're not top of the table, we're near the bottom and when you're 3-0 down players have to show enormous character to get back from that.

"I'm really pleased with the performance today.

"The front players gave us another level of energy from what we've been saying. I thought we created quite a few opportunities to score.

"Our crowd were incredible today - it was like a home game. You can't ask more if you're a Watford player."

  4. 'It will be a sore one for a while'published at 16:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich City boss Dean Smith: "Frustrated, disappointed. They were much the better team in the first half and played with more energy. I have to question the goal as Patrick Bamford is offside. The reason he heads it is because of Patrick Bamford but they got the second ball.

"I asked my players for bravery and we didn't get that in the first half. We got a reaction in the second half. We won a penalty and it got turned over. I'll ask the question why later. If Luke Ayling's foot is not there, Milot Rashica can get a shot away. Is there enough to turn it over? I don't know because it's subjective and they're the only people who know what that word means at the minute.

"In the last 20-25 minutes we took the game to Leeds. Teemu Pukki had cramp and was still running the ball into the corners. Our final third just wasn't good enough. We wanted to try and go on to win it. Their goal comes from our free-kick. They end up getting the winner.

"We don't have a game for three weeks so it will be a sore one for a while but we have to bounce back. We are where we are for a reason. We have to regroup and get ready for what's to come.

"It took us until half time to get going and it's been the same again today. Maybe the enormity of the games, is there apprehension from the players? I don't know. We just haven't started well. To see their performance in the second half it's frustrating not to see that throughout the whole game."

  6. 'There is nowhere to hide and it’s time to step up'published at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Everton 0-1 Wolves

    Everton

Everton's Mason Holgate speaking to Sky Sports on a fourth successive Premier League defeat: "It is what it is. There’s no hiding place. There’s nothing we can do about it. We’ve got to dig deep. As a performance if we look at it is was a lot better than Monday night. I thought we showed spirit and fight but ultimately when you are down there you have to pick up points. We’re disappointed but we have to start winning games. If we don’t start winning games we have to start not losing games.

On how low confidence is: "Confidence is not going to be high due to results and where we are but we have to believe in ourselves. There is nowhere to hide and it’s time to step up. It seems to be at the moment other teams keep nicking it and things aren’t going our way. Games are coming thick and fast and we have to stay consistent in our performances and stay strong. We can’t change what has already happened."

On how strongly players want to avoid relegation: "Nobody wants to get relegated no matter what club you’re at or what the history is. If you look at the squad we’ve got we shouldn’t be anywhere near here. There’s no hiding that but we are and we have to deal with it."

  7. 'We feel bad for everyone else'published at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

    Chelsea

Kai Havertz speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "For Newcastle it would have been a nice afternoon to get the result [a draw]. They always tried to spend a lot of time in some situations. For us it was frustrating. At half time we spoke about staying positive, staying calm and trying to play our football. In the end, this was the best result we can have.

"Everyone enjoyed this last minute, for players and fans it was a nice feeling."

"We - the players - are in a good situation, really, we feel bad for everyone else. We know this situation is not all about football, there are a lot more important things than us. We try to put a smile on the faces. When you see the emotion that came out after this goal, it is what everyone needed today.

"We are very privileged to do our job, a lot of people in the world are feeling a lot worse than us. We are just try to do our job, be professional and give them a good feeling."

  8. 'Felt the magic of Elland Road'published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Norwich

    Leeds United

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch: "Obviously there's a lot of emotions in the game. I'd heard a lot about the magic of Elland Road and we felt that today. The crowd were fantastic and the performance brought them into the game.

"We played well and deserved it today. Some of our chances in the first half, we could have finished the game off earlier. We have to fight for everything. It will make us stronger and we will keep pushing.

"It was very frantic. The goal against us is avoidable. Most of the work we're doing is about video analysis and going through walkthroughs. We need more time together but this was a step in the right direction. On another day I think we're going to win this game more completely.

"Both teams invested everything they had because they knew how important the points were. It makes this league different to any other. I'm trying to enjoy the process but also push my team to get better.

"Patrick Bamford's fine it's just the pace of the game was so frenetic I didn't feel he could go more. I think he delivered a really good first half performance for us.

"I take it was a strong performance and we showed more what we want the game to look like. It will take more time still. We still have lots of work to do. I want to be positive with the lads and keep feeding them with the right information but we need to stick together and keep fighting until the end."

  9. 'We were passive in the first half'published at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich goalscorer Kenny McLean: "Did we do enough to win the game? No. We didn't underestimate how big it was. It was a big game. A lot of times we've used the word passive this season and in the first half we were again.

"We know the fans can be on their side but it could be the other way. They were the best team in the first half. To lose that goal at the end was tough."

  10. 'This is why you play football'published at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Norwich

    Leeds United

Leeds matchwinner Joe Gelhardt: "It's an unbelievable feeling to see it hitting the back of the net. Important to get three points on the board. We missed some chances and could have put the game to bed. We're happy to get the points we needed at the end of the day.

"We haven't spoken to the manager yet as we came straight here but I'm sure he will be full of praise. We can't stop now we need to take it into Wolves and hopefully get three points there as well."

Leeds' Stuart Dallas: "It wouldn't be us if we didn't make it hard for ourselves, would it? You could see the emotion at the end there. It's a massive win. We've been below our standards for whatever reason this season but that was a step forward for us. Disappointed how we conceded the goal but it showed the mentality of the group to get one at the other end.

"It's relief I think. When we scored to go 2-1 up we still have to credit Illan Meslier with a save at the end. The emotions at the end... This is why you play football, for moments like this."

  11. 'We have to stand together'published at 16:15 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

    Chelsea

Chelsea's matchwinner Kai Havertz speaking to Sky Sports: "It was amazing to score in the last minute like this.

"It was very tough. Newcastle made life hard for us. Up front it was tough - they have big defenders, who always tried to block us and foul us.

"But we talked about this at half-time and how to get round this. We dug in, tried to give our best and in the end it was brilliant for us."

On his challenge on Dan Burn: "People know me not as a player who does things like this. This guy is like seven, eight foot and I have to jump against him. You have to use arms to jump and when I jump he is higher than me, so it is tough.

"I can say sorry because I saw he was hurt and feel bad, but you cannot tell me I did this on purpose."

On the situation at the club after sanctions were placed on Roman Abramovich: "It's tough, we players are privileged to train and continue to do what we love. We feel sorry for everyone. The supporters, the workers, not just us professionals. It's a tough time for everyone. We try to give everything for them in the moment. We have to stand together, we try to do this and give them a good feeling."

  14. 'We had to frustrate them and we did that'published at 16:09 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Everton 0-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves goalscorer Conor Coady on how important that win was: "It was massive. We knew there was going to be a reaction. No matter what you say about them they are a top team and a top football club. It was important we came here with the right mentality and know that when the crowd gets up it’s tough to play against. We had to frustrate them at times and I thought we did it and got the goal in the second half which is fantastic.

On scoring his third goal of the season: "We work a lot on set pieces. We do an awful lot of work on it. To score for me was quite a nice feeling and it’s a good day. It means more because I play for this football club and it’s about winning. To win with this club is an incredible feeling and that’s what it’s about."

On Wolves' European hopes being back on track: "Three weeks ago we were kind of written off. It’s not something we talk about. We just enjoy playing football under our manager and if we keep doing that we’ll see where we are at the end of the season."

    Jonathan Overend
BBC Radio 5 Live Sports commentator at St Mary's Stadium

Southampton have been bang average today. Watford deserve these three points.

This has been a woeful performance from the home side.

I can see a close-knit group in Watford who have played for themselves, their manager and their club.
