On finishing in the Champions League places: "We have to be there, we should be there. Our history obliges to be there but we are not there yet and there are still a lot of games to play.

"We have an excellent group of people at the club who believes in what we do and then you have to put performance into results. The last few months we have been more consistent."

  4. 'The only thing we can control is our performance'published at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    Arsenal 2-0 Leicester

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: "Without putting in a performance we don't beat Leicester. They are a good side and made it tough for us. It was a big win for us.

"I was pleased with the understanding of what we had to do. When they started to overload in certain areas, we understood how we had to resolve that. Also pleased with the movement and link-up between the players was terrific."

On chance of Champions League football: "The reality in football is when you start to predict what can happen no-one would get it right - the only thing we can control is our performance.

"We are in a good position but there is still a lot to fight for. Next up is Liverpool - we know how tough it will be but we will try to win it."

On his young group of players: "You can sense and feel they are having a good time together and that translates on the pitch."

Cags is reacting, he is moving his body, he can't move his body like a mannequin and have his arms straight down. Hugely disappointing."

    Arsenal 2-0 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, speaking to MOTD: "We didn't give away too much in open play. We are obviously disappointed with the first goal, coming from a corner.

"We had started quite well. A little impatient but were comfortable with the ball. They got the goal which was disappointing. Their keeper made a great save but at half time we were still in the game.

"They deserved to win the game, they took their two chances."

On the VAR decision for the penalty: "I am disappointed in the penalty. That there was disappointing, I don't know what else he could do. He was moving but it touched his hand and it was accidental."

Focus on Europe? "It would be great. We are not choosy over trophies as we only have the one we can play for. It is a real focus for us but not to take anything away from the Premier League as we want to finish as high as we can."

"We went out there and gave it our all, but fell short."

Credit to Arteta. Honestly. When you consider the squad he took over, with the passengers he had. He's cleared the decks and gotten us competitive again. No goals conceded from corners yet this season is bonkers. Well done to him for turning around a dreadful start.

Credit Mikel Arteta - he is doing a brilliant job with these young Arsenal players.

If they pick up injuries, that's when you might see this Arsenal side suffer, but if they can keep this 11, 12 or 13 players fit until the end of the season, for me they are favourites to get the final Champions League spot.

That is the best I think I've seen Thomas Partey play for Arsenal. He put in a great all round midfielder's performance and could have had more goals.

    Martin Odegaard was excellent too.

I knew it would be an Arsenal win with that teamsheet. When I saw no Wilfred Ndidi, no Youri Tielemans, no Patson Daka and also no Ademola Lookman, who I think has been good for them recently, I just thought there would not be enough attacking threat to cause Arsenal problems.

His side may be leading comfortably with not long to go but Mikel Arteta is on the edge of his technical area and looking as stressed as he would be if they were losing 1-0 in the final seconds of a Champions League final.

Into the first of five minutes added on. We're just playing for the final whistle now really, not going to be time for a dramatic fightback I don't think.

I think stuttering penalties are the rage so I'm not sure what Leicester's GK is on about. Think Jorghino. Also Schmeichel was off his line before the penalty was hit.

Top 3 spot is incoming watch out Chelsea.

Those complaining about a red card for Soyuncu, the ball was cleared off the line, therefore no red card.
